Méšova stéla a její přínos k interpretaci třetí kapitoly Druhé knihy královské / The Stele of Mesha and its Relevance for the interpretation of 2 King 3

KUČEROVÁ, Veronika January 2010 (has links)
The paper is concerned with the synchronic analysis of two ancient texts, i. e. 2 Kings 3, and the Mesha´s stele. Both of them mention an Israelite-Moabite conflict, and it is said they contain two different reports of the same event. The purpose of this thesis is to reconsider this assertion. Both texts were analyzed and their respective literary genres were determined. Then the texts were compared with regard to the aforementioned conflict. At the end of the paper the author concludes, it is neither possible to affirm with any certainty, that both texts reflect the same historical event, nor to disprove it.

Pan Oldřich III. z Hradce. Portrét českého šlechtice z doby vlády Jana Lucemburského / Lord Ulrich III of Neuhaus. The profile of a Czech Aristocrat from the Time of John of Luxembourg's

Miczanová, Veronika January 2018 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the life story of the medieval nobleman Ulrich III. of Neuhaus. The goal of the dissertation is to portray his life and work and put them in a larger context of the period in which he lived, that is the first half of the fourteenth century. Despite the fact that Ulrich III. did not hold any important office but devoted his life to administering his large dominion instead, he is one of the most important persons of the Neuhaus family. He contributed significantly to the structural changes of Jindřichův Hradec, for example by issuing an order to complete the Saint John the Baptist Church and inviting the Order of Friars Minor Conventual to live there. A confirmed Catholic, he lead the first Crusade against the Waldensians, who settled on his dominion. He also had a chamber in the Jindřichův Hradec castle decorated with a wall painting based on the legend of Saint George, the patron saint of the Teutonic Order, an order that had settled in Jindřichův Hradec alongside the Knights Templar. Due to the fact that he belonged to the Neuhaus family, he acquired the Castle of Telč in Moravia. The Castle subsequently became a significant property of the Neuhaus family until the Neuhaus family became extinct in 1604. With regard to the politics, Ulrich III supported King John of...

A History of the Warm Springs Reservation 1855-1900

Cliff, Thelma Drake 06 1900 (has links)
671 pages / It is evident from a study of the history of these Indians, that the Warm Springs, together with other Oregon tribes, did not benefit greatly from the Government system of colonizing and reservations. It is true that they received the advantages of education and medical service furnished by the Government in accordance with treaty stipulations, and some protection from their enemies; but the value of these advantages may be questioned.

Jazyk legendy z doby barokní / The Linguistic Characteristics of a Baroque Legend

DOLEŽALOVÁ, Zdeňka January 2008 (has links)
Main topic of this work is to analyze language elements used in the legend from baroque period and that from the complete conception on the gross information contents this work and characteristic features of phonetics and morfology. No research in the field of syntax and lexicology was made at this point (our final work would be to extensive). The complete interpretation refers to father Jiří David´s baroque legend Medicus Hercinius, {\dots} dated 1713. First part we apply to common informations about the author, about the period, in which he lived and wrote his legend, and about his contemporaries. We describe the legendistic literature and conditions to her expansibility in our country, the life of saint Gunther then and the substance of whole David´s work in general. There are important informations about noted humanismus and baroque authors in next two chapters. We describe individual phenomens of two language levels phonetics and morfology then, especially with regard to theory and practice. Principal aim of my work is to contribute to o deeper understanding of Czech language from the late baroque.

Die Legende von der unsichtbaren Stadt Kitesch von Nikolai Rimskij-Korsakov und Parsifal von Richard Wagner

Gosenpud, Abram Akimowitsch 16 March 2017 (has links) (PDF)

Revenants from the Church to literature

Livermore, Christian January 2016 (has links)
Factual accounts of revenants – the risen dead – seized the medieval imagination in the early eleventh century, and were recorded by serious historians and ecclesiastics as true. They then began to appear in secular imaginative literature and art, growing progressively more elaborate and frightening throughout the Middle Ages whilst retaining many of the religious overtones expressed overtly in the ecclesiastic tales. By the early modern and modern period, the tales were removed from any overt religious context and were told as purely imaginative literature. The academic half of this thesis explores the influence on the tales of the Christian doctrine of resurrection and the cult of the body of Christ and of the saints, then traces the migration of those tales into imaginative literature from the Middle Ages to the present. It identifies key motifs from the medieval chronicles and imaginative literature that continue to appear in modern stories, and explores the extent to which Christian eschatology altered perceptions of the dead and why, in an increasingly secular context, fascination with such tales continued into modern literature, what part fear of death played throughout this period, and how that fear was expressed, first in an ecclesiastical context, then in imaginative literature through horror stories. The creative half of my thesis is a literary fiction novel updating a medieval revenant tale, the Legend of the Three Living and the Three Dead, to twenty-first century New England.

"Instrukcí neb Krátké naučení mladému hospodáři" Šimona Lomnického z Budče / "Instrukcí neb Krátké naučení mladému hospodáři" ("A Short Instruction for a Young Farmer") by Šimon Lomnický z Budče

Heřmanská, Kateřina January 2016 (has links)
The abstract The main aim of the thesis is preparation of the edition of an educational text by Simon Lomnický from Budeč. My work includes the correction of grammar, syntactic and ortographic errors, some of them need special decision, which has no influence on the uniqueness of the middle czech language. I have also analysed main themes and motives, which were similar to the themes of an another same genre books. The end of the life of Simon Lomnicky wasn't very happy and there were a lot of bad legends about his political behavior and his death during 19 th century,, which was destroyed on the beggening of the 20th century. I was also trying to find the origin of these rumors and make decision of its.

Aide à la conception de légendes personnalisées et originales : proposition d'une méthode coopérative pour le choix des couleurs / Helping users to make on-demand and original legends : proposition of a cooperative method to choose colours

Christophe, Sidonie 30 October 2009 (has links)
Le modèle de dialogue ainsi proposé est implémenté dans le prototype COLorLEGend (COLLEG) / Helping users to make on-demand and original legends : proposition of a cooperative method to choose colours Current cartographic tools allow technically novice and expert users to make maps. However resulting legends may be of poor quality because users do not know how to make good choices of graphic representation and especially good choices of colours. Cartographic expertise including semiologic rules and colour perception knowledge (contrasts and harmony) is required. If users are not experts, cartographic tools should other them this expertise. In this context, we want to help users to design customized and original legends, by helping them to select suitable colours. We propose a cooperative method in four stages : 1- selection of an inspiration source, 2- identification of user's colour preferences on inspiration sources, 3- interpretation of preferences and design of suitable legends, 4- refinement of legends. Two legend design strategies, based on map samples and master paintings, are used. However, conflicts between the user and the system may appear. Therefore we propose to rely on human-machine dialog techniques in order to better adapt the process to the user. A dialog model is implemented and the prototype COLorLEGend (COLLEG) is presented

Obrazy jinakosti a odrazy turismu ve východní Indonésii / Kidnapping Otherness. Tourism, Imaginaries and Rumor in Eastern Indonesia

Kábová, Adriana January 2019 (has links)
This dissertation is based on my research into distinction processes (Calhoun, 1994; Cerulo 1997) between tourists and inhabitants of West Sumba in Eastern Indonesia. The imaginiaries (Castoriadis, 1987; Strauss, 2006; Lacan, 1977; Anderson, 1991; Salazar, 2012) of West Sumbanese people about foreigners also emerge from diving rumors (Bysow, 1928; Allport and Postman, 1947/1965). Their origins, dissemination, and sharpening processes, as well as their consequences will be analysed herein. This case study demonstrates how mental models of otherness are formed and reified, how they clash, and for what purposes they may be utilized. It will also analyze how imaginaries influence behavior and may lead to miscommunication in West Sumba.
