This thesis is concerned with textile production in Middle and Late Bronze Age on the Greek continent and western Anatolia. First part explains the description of methodology of approach to textile manifacture in the studied area, followed by description and properties of threads used to weave the cloths, as well as technologies used in their making. Terms related to textile are mentioned on clay tablets with linear writing B, hence the thesis engages in their interpretation and comparison between particular centres. Second part analyses tools used in textile manifacture, namely whorls and loom weights based on their shape. Then follows topographic overview of the most prominent localities of textile manifacture in which textile-making tools were found. Localities not included in the overview are mentioned in the table. The overview describes locality, number and types of whorls and loom weights and what materials are they made of. Whenever possible, the most important specification is mentioned - the weight - based on which the type of weaved textile is described. The aim of the thesis is to create overview of localities with tools used in textile making as well as their analysis and comparison. Collected data are converted into tables, graphs and maps. This thesis deals with a Temporaryyarn storage device for yarn produced on an industrial loom. The Temporaryyarn storage contains a driven storage drum with a rotational yarn compensor. The driven rotating storage device is coupled with the first drive supplied by an electrical motor, and the rotational compensor is coupled with a second drive- also an electrical motor. The described Temporaryyarn storage can effectively increase the level of automation of an industrial loom.

In order to advance consistent lightweight construction principles in automotive and mechanical engineering, support frame construction made from high-performance materials is becoming more commonplace. These consist of complexly structured nodular connection elements. The required connection elements have not yet been produced satisfactorily. The developed node element structures in this paper are produced on a shuttle weaving loom by flattening and weaving them as multi-surface woven fabrics. The development of the woven concept for the realization of node element structures is based on the fragmentation of the individual sub-elements. The goal of this research is development of a flexible technology for weaving fabrics and intended for the integral realization of woven nodular semi-finished products with complex geometries and connections, which are to be used to connect Fiber-reinforced Plastic components in support frame structures.

Asking the question: How can the waffle weave be reinterpreted through material, technical and colour research, the investigation of this MA thesis revolves around the weaving technique with the aim of presenting a collection of various woven textiles, where the waffle has been used in different ways. The weave, with its three- dimensional structure creates an interesting canvas to experiment upon as its structure creates both texture as well as depth to the textile. Furthermore, the research is conducted through a systematic exploration of the different aspects mentioned above, where theory and practise go hand in hand. Moreover, the practical experiments start as sketches on the computerised ARM looms and then are scaled up and revised on the industrial jacquard looms. The results showcase a variety of waffle weaves; from flat to three- dimensional, with various colour and surface effects as well as different compositions and overall forms. Three-dimensional (3D) profiled woven fabrics with varying cross-sections along the component parts are needed in a number of industrial applications. One of the main advantages of the ribbon loom weaving technique is the ability to produce highly diverse structures with open or closed edges. The realization of 3D profiled woven fabrics that satisfy the requirements is directly connected to the ability to process high-performance fibers in the weft direction. The processing of high-performance yarns in the weft direction with low fiber damage will open new application areas for shuttle weaving machines. By employing modified mechanical loom elements, the variety of producible structures can be increased significantly.

The increasing need of consistent implementation of lightweight constructions in many technical fields makes the manufacture of near net-shaped node structure to be used in textile-reinforced composites a subject of great interest. The manufacture of the node structure is required to provide a strong node point whilst maintaining the circumference of each adjoining strut. Despite a variety of available methods to produce three-dimensional nodal fabric, the required geometry for the complex nodular connection element has not yet been fully achieved. Furthermore, the available methods have limitations. The developed woven concept in this work allows for maintaining the configuration of the node structure and dimensions of the tubes, especially at the node points. As a result, all tubes positioned at node points are fully open; this is accomplished without distorting the surrounding area once the flat woven node structure is removed from the loom and erected into three-dimensional configuration. In order to produce a three-dimensional structure on a conventional weaving machine, the structure must be flattened in an appropriate way. By using a mathematical algorithm, it is possible to graph the flattened structure precisely. The developed weaving concept and relating calculation are applied to create the weaving plan of the spatial nodal structures, which can be produced on a shuttle weaving loom. The developed concept in this paper will provide repeatable manufacturing of complex node structures by using the conventional weaving loom. The struts of node structures manufactured using this method can be woven at any angle and with spatial arrangements.

On-Loom Fabric Defect Inspection Using Contact Image Sensors and Activation Layer Embedded Convolutional Neural NetworkOuyang, Wenbin 12 1900 (has links)
Malfunctions on loom machines are the main causes of faulty fabric production. An on-loom fabric inspection system is a real-time monitoring device that enables immediate defect detection for human intervention. This dissertation presented a solution for the on-loom fabric defect inspection, including the new hardware design—the configurable contact image sensor (CIS) module—for on-loom fabric scanning and the defect detection algorithms. The main contributions of this work include (1) creating a configurable CIS module adaptable to a loom width, which brings CIS unique features, such as sub-millimeter resolution, compact size, short working distance and low cost, to the fabric defect inspection system, (2) designing a two-level hardware architecture that can be efficiently deployed in a weaving factory with hundreds of looms, (3) developing a two-level inspecting scheme, with which the initial defect screening is performed on the Raspberry Pi and the intensive defect verification is processed on the cloud server, (4) introducing the novel pairwise-potential activation layer to a convolutional neural network that leads to high accuracies of defect segmentation on fabrics with fine and imbalanced structures, (5) achieving a real-time defect detection that allows a possible defect to be examined multiple times, and (6) implementing a new color segmentation technique suitable for processing multi-color fabric defects.
The novel CIS-based on-loom scanning system offered real-time and high-resolution fabric images, which was able to deliver the information of single thread on a fabric. The algorithm evaluation on the fabric defect datasets showed a non-miss-detection rate on defect-free fabrics. The average precision of defect existed images reached above 90% at the pixel level. The detected defect pixels' integrity—the recall scored around 70%. Possible defect regions overestimated on ground truth images and the morphologies of fine defects similar to regular fabric pattern were the two major reasons that caused the imperfection in defect pixel locating. The experiments showed the defect areas on multi-color fabrics could be precisely located under the proposed color segmentation algorithm.

construction of the scenes and the magical universe, in which the narratives of
Marina Colasanti are realized, having as it shows the tales of the works Doze reis e a
moca no labirinto do vento (2006): "The woman ramada", Uma ideia toda azul
(2006): "Beyond the frame", "Between the leaves of green ó" and "Yarn after yarn".
The general and specific objectives are to highlight and distinguish the
encompassing and generic scenes present in the narratives, to identify the nature of
the verbal sign in its relation to the nonverbal sign, and to analyze intertext
resources, paratext, among others, as an artistic procedure. The narrative plans are
approached, in which the characters are realized mimically, starting from the initial
assumption formulated by Dominique Maingueneau. Non-verbal language is an
invitation to read verbal language and vice versa. Both are associated with the signs
that are constructed through the textual writing: loom and fabric. They can be seen
now either explicitly or implicitly, and put in the service of a power that is realized by
the act of reading. Thus, in the narrative text, there are traces of a speech in which
the text is staged. / O texto traz a análise de aspectos do discurso literário como os processos de
construção das cenas e o universo mágico, em que se realizam as narrativas de
Marina Colasanti, tendo como mostra os contos das obras Doze reis e a moca no
labirinto do vento (2006): “A mulher ramada”, Uma ideia toda azul (2006): “Além do
bastidor”, “Entre as folhas do verde ó” e “Fio após fio”. Os objetivos geral e
específicos são destacar e distinguir as cenas englobante e genérica presentes nas
narrativas, identificar a natureza do signo verbal na sua relação com o signo não
verbal e analisar recursos de intertexto, paratexto, entre outros, como procedimento
artístico. Abordam-se os planos narrativos, nos quais se dá a realização dos
personagens mimeticamente, partindo do pressuposto inicial formulado por
Dominique Maingueneau. A linguagem não verbal é um convite à leitura da
linguagem verbal e vice-versa. Ambas se associam aos signos que se constroem
por meio da escritura textual: tear e tecido. Elas podem ser vistas ora de modo
explícito, ora implícito, e se colocam a serviço de um poder que se realiza pelo ato
de leitura. Assim, no texto narrativo, há rastros de um discurso em que o texto é
encenado.
