Daňková, Lucie January 2019 (has links)
(in English) The master's thesis The Chinese Collection of Ludvík Kuba in Historical Context and the Context of his Oeuvre is focused on works, ethnographic interests and contacts of Czech painter Ludvík Kuba in connection with his collection of Chinese art and the context of the popularity of Chinese culture amongst Czech modern painters. The author will also pay attention to the history of collecting Chinese art in former Czechoslovakia and to some objects collected by Kuba in particular. The thesis aims to reconstruct the collection of Chinese art amassed by Ludvík Kuba, using period photographs and information from institutions that house the artist's estate (Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures, National Gallery in Prague, Polabské muzeum v Poděbradech, and others.) The artist's book Moje Čína (My China), as well as other sources (period articles, correspondence), will be used as source material, too. Antifonář sedlecký a česká malba 13. století / Anthiphonary of Sedlec and Czech painting of the 13th century

Šubrtová, Jana January 2011 (has links)
Painting decorations of the Sedlec Antiphonary manuscript (Prague, NK ČR, XIII A 6) serve as significant evidence for art painting development in Central Europe during the cultural changes, when Late Romanesque style evolved into Gothic. The aim of the thesis is to submit profound art-historical analysis of the Sedlec Antiphonary manuscript, which is stored in National Library of the Czech Republic in Prague, call number XIII A 6. The main method of this work is the careful study of painting decorations in the manuscript, in terms of both analysing their layout in general and typology of the single ornament motifs. Among other methods are formal analysis, comparison based on typology and iconography analysis. Similarities of the manuscript and works of the same time of origin, such as Mater verborum manuscript (Prague, KNM, X A 11) or Wolfenbüttel sketch-book , are also taken into consideration. Due to this comparison could be proved that the author of the Sedlec Antiphonary was probably influenced by Byzantine, Venetian and German painting styles. The Sedlec Antiphonary represents an important and practically key work in the context of painting development in the 13th century. Keywords book painting, miniature, initial letter, Women at the Sepulcher, 13th century

Opatrná, Marie January 2015 (has links)
disertační práce v anglickém jazyce MGR. ING. MARIE OPATRNÁ REFLECTION OF ITALIAN PAINTING IN WORK OF "CZECH" ARTISTS AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF BAROQUE PAINTING IN THE PERIOD 1611-1650 Školitel práce: DOC. PHDR. MARTIN ZLATOHLÁVEK, PHD. The thesis deals with "Czech" painting of the first half of the 17th century and the Italian influences in it. In order to understand the origin of these influences, it explores Italian sacral painting of the whole 16th century. Nevertheless, the main attention is dedicated to the second half of this century. The part of this theme is explained on the development of academic studies from the 20th century. The second part of the thesis deals with the Czech art-historical literature and with the subject of protobaroque or early baroque painting. These two parts define terms of these periods and their approaches to painting. The main point of interest is the transition in the field of sacral painting from the art of late renaissance to the art of early baroque. The existence of this special period of sacral painting in Czech area is supported by examples of images and their analysis. The conclusion summarizes new findings and opens questions about new view on the Czech painting of the 17th century and about new methodological attitudes.

Recepce nizozemského realismu v pozdně gotické deskové malbě v Čechách / The Reception of Dutch Realism in the Late Gothic Panel Painting in Bohemia

Fiřt, Jan January 2016 (has links)
The dissertation deals with the reception of Dutch realism in the late Gothic panel painting in Bohemia. Its aim is to examine the principles of reception of new artistic forms and ideas that originated in the Dutch art centers in the 15th century. The Czech painting of the 15th century was adopting these innovative trends exclusively from the neighbouring countries. Therefore, the work addresses mainly issues related to artistic exchanges between Bohemia and the surrounding - mostly German-speaking - regions. It looks into the specific ways in which artistic exchange took place - the mobility of artists, art imports, the importance of graphic and other models. The dissertation focuses on the most important examples that show the reception of Dutch realism: The Ark of Grand Master Puchner, The Křivoklát Altarpiece, and works associated with it. These matters are addressed mainly through a formal stylistic analysis and formal comparison. In the case of the Puchner Ark, via these methods, it has been possible to point out a possible artistic basis of the author in Swabia - within a circle of the followers of the Master of the Sterzing Altarpiece. The dissertation has tried to prove the artistic origin of the Master of the Litoměřice Altarpiece within the circle of the Ulm painter B. Zeitblom. These...

Středověké nástěnné malby v kostele Svatého Ducha v Hradci Králové / Medieval mural paintings in the cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Hradec Králové

Tehníková, Eleonora January 2011 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with medieval mural paintings. Its aim is to describe and classify the collection in terms of time and style in the context of contemporary production of mural paintings in the 14th century in Bohemia. In the introduction, historical realtionships connected with the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit are described and the development of church service in East Bohemia is outlined. The main part is concerned with the description, placement, iconographical determination of mural paintings and their present state. It especially focuses on analysing and specification of the iconography of different scenes, figures of saints and donators. Style analysis qualifies style resemblance, analogy, parallels and confronts the mural paintings with contemporary book, mural and carving production. It also deals with the problematics of over painting accidental intervention into the monument. This part deduces the probable creation time of the whole interior decoration of the decanal sacristy. The final part evaluates and recapitulates the whole problematics. The diploma thesis offers the first detailed analysis and evaluation of the paintings in the decanal sacristy of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Hradec Králové and provides complete drawing and photographic documentation.

Viktor Barvitius (1834-1902) / Viktor Barvitius (1834-1902)

Klouzová, Aneta January 2012 (has links)
English abstract: In this my master thesis I attempt to depicture comprehensively the life-work of Viktor Barvitius (1834 - 1902), one of the Czech Pioneers of Modern Realism. Tracing the fates and influences that had formed the oeuvre of this fancier of urban turmoil helps us to figure out his positron within the kontext of period art. Barvitiuses creation embraces all main domains of painting of the time: portrayals, historical painting, genre; it has reached its peak during his stay in France between 1865 and 1867. For his immediate reaction to the French Modern Realism and together with Karel Purkyně and Soběslav Pinkas, Barvitius represents one of the prophets of the Czech Programme Realism. In 1877, Barvitius got a commission as an inspector of the SVPU Art Gallery; Czech museum culture is a great deal due to his activity on the field. Barvitiuses whole life artistic work, both theoric and practical, make him an important figure of Czech cultural history. Hooked illustration and period and later reviews make an integral part of my thesis. It also includes the list of Barvitiuses art pieces owned by Czech museums and galleries, Czech National Gallery in Prague, the art pieces that were the subjects of auction-sale and the inventory of his art work.

Zelené světnice a malba v profánních prostorech na konci středověku / Green Chambers and Mural Painting in Secular Spaces at the End of the Middle Ages

Dienstbier, Jan January 2018 (has links)
The thesis presents a detailed analysis of the late medieval murals in the so-called 'green chamber' of Žirovnice Castle and similar late-medieval mural paintings. Compared to the earlier literature the study focuses on the interrelations between the scenes depicted in the 'green chamber': the Judgement of Paris, Judith beheading Holofernes, the exemplum An Old Woman Is Worse than the Devil as well as an image which was previously described as the Judgement of Solomon (perhaps rather a parable about legitimate and illegitimate progeny). They are compared with other depictions of these themes and their treatment in contemporary literature. These comparisons link them with the popular concept of a critique of the power of women (Weibermacht). In Žirovnice, and similarly elsewhere, this concept was connected to the allegory of the transcience of love and the ephemeral nature of the world overall. The ostensible genre depictions of the hunt and tournament can be interpreted in this sense as well. This is demonstrated by numerous details subverting the meaning of these images. The study then compares Žirovnice to other similar murals in Bohemia and addresses the questions of their function as well as of the art-historical phenomenon of 'green chambers' as various secular murals are called following the...
