Concern about operational risk management processes is growing every day because exposure to any failure or absence of internal controls can potentially mean additional costs to financial institutions as well as financial losses from the operating and business areas. This fact determines that any control system must be efficient and guarantee the reliability of the internal processes in a continuous way. And so any operational risk management model should be used as an instrument to ensure that key risks have been properly identified and controlled. Starting from the questioning about the degree of agreement of the researched specialists against a model that could contribute to the development of their activities, this study proposed and tested a model of operational risk mapping using basic quality tools. This time, supported by a comprehensive bibliographical research, exploratory and qualitative, this model had processes and requirements duly supported by studies in this area. Next, a research instrument was developed and applied to a group of specialists in mapping operational risks, through a questionnaire. The results revealed that all the premises of the requirements of the proposed operational risk mapping model have a degree of agreement of 96% of the specialists surveyed. It is expected that this study contributes significantly to the operational risk mapping activity, since it is proposed to assist the specialist in his activities.

A systematic mapping study of mapping modelling languages

Popovic, Marija, Cizmic, Amila January 2022 (has links)
Context - Various research teams, as well as individual researchers, have investigated mapping modelling languages. However, systematic studies that provide a structured overview of this research on this topic have not been conducted. It is noticeable that this leaves a big gap in the context of a modelling language. Conducting these studies could lead to a better understanding of the characteristics of mapping modelling languages, which would be of great importance for the future development of this area of research. Objective - The aim of the study is to assess the state of knowledge about mapping modelling languages and assist stakeholders in making informed decisions. This is carried out by identifying existing mapping modelling languages, and their characteristics. Another objective of this thesis is to identify potential mapping modelling languages that can support the generation of a blended modelling environment. Method - In order to achieve the goal, we conducted a systematic mapping study of mapping modelling languages. Our search showed that we had 2913 potential studies that were relevant to our topic. After the selection process, the final set of primary papers was 29. The information that was of importance for this study was derived according to the categories of a well-defined classification framework. Results - The analysis of the extracted data showed the following main findings: (i) most of the primary studies research focused on providing solution proposals, (ii) the largest number of publications was in 2010, (iii) most papers mention mapping modelling languages that allow the definition of unidirectional mapping rules, (iv) the most common cardinality was 1:N, (v) graphical syntax has been proposed in many primary studies, (vi) most studies suggest mapping modelling languages that can be used to define relationships between RDF models, (vii) documentation and implementation were available for a very small number of mapping modelling languages. Conclusion - These results can help the research community to identify research gaps on mapping modelling languages as well as identify possible directions for future research.

Image Processing Pipeline and a Global Search for Local Maxima Method of Object Detection

Nathan Kampe Houtz (19273654) 01 August 2024 (has links)
<p dir="ltr">Optical observations provide a cost-effective means of tracking satellites and space debris with high angular accuracy, and many amateur, academic, and professional observers use them extensively. Optical images can be accumulated quickly, and automation is important to rapidly produce accurate measurements of objects found in them. Effects like atmospheric refraction, atmospheric scattering of incoming light, aberration due to the motion of the observer, image distortions from the optics of the telescope, scintillation due to atmospheric turbulence, limited resolution, and various sources of noise create challenges for observers. An image processing pipeline has been developed from scratch for the purpose of automating the collection of data with the Purdue Optical Ground Station telescope. Effects that are deterministic are mathematically modeled and corrected, and all steps of the pipeline are described. A novel method is presented for detecting and optimally estimating the centroids of faint, streaked objects in astronomical images with several-second-long exposure times. The ability to accurately determine the pointing direction of a telescope from the stars in the image is demonstrated with a series of images of a GPS satellite. The resulting orbit is compared with the broadcast ephemeris, with an average positional error of 22.1 meters over the observation period.</p>

The future noise mapping model in Sweden / Framtidens bullerkartläggningsmodell i Sverige

Sturk, Johanna January 2022 (has links)
An extensive technological shift is currently taking place to mitigate climate changeand this trend is particularly noticeable in the transport sector. This is interestingfrom an acoustical perspective, since it changes the noise environment in society. For example, a study in Gothenburg has shown that a complete electrification ofthe road traffic would reduce the noise levels by between 2 and 5 dB(A). In Sweden, noise emissions are calculated with a calculation model from 1996, called the Nordiskberäkningsmodell (Nordiska). Given the age of the model it is reasonable to investigate whether Sweden should change completely to the EU-common calculationmodel Common NOise aSSessment methOdS (CNOSSOS), since it is mandatory touse for national noise mapping. This master thesis has performed a computation analysis to compare and discussdifferences between CNOSSOS and Nordiska, to contribute to answering the question whether Sweden should change to CNOSSOS (or perhaps another model). Theresults show that CNOSSOS overall computes higher noise levels than Nordiska andthat the differences between them increase linearly with distance. Farthest from thenoise source the differences are up to 5 dB(A) for the road case and 9 dB(A) forthe railway case. In other words, the differences are larger for the railway trafficmodels than they are for the road traffic models, which is thought to be a result ofthe complexity of the CNOSSOS railway model. Another interesting phenomenonis that the differences behind buildings between the models are different for roadand railway traffic, which can be explained by the fact that the screening effects inNordiska’s road and railway models are different. My conclusion is that CNOSSOS is unsuitable for domestic calculations of noiseemissions. The model does not align with Swedish legislation and there is uncertaintydue to the fact that the differences between the CNOSSOS and Nordiska road andrailway models are different in size. Moreover, CNOSSOS railway model requires alot of computational power, which can delay and increase the costs of noise mappingor reduce the accuracy of the results. However, additional work is needed in whicheach calculation model is compared with measurements in situ to see which modelbest describes reality. If the conclusion thereafter is that CNOSSOS still is not asuitable option, it could be examined whether it is possible to create an updatedversion of Nord2000 (another Nordic calculation model used e.g. in Denmark) toobtain a calculation model that is more suitable for future traffic conditions.

Transient engine model for calibration using two-stage regression approach

Khan, Muhammad Alam Z. January 2011 (has links)
Engine mapping is the process of empirically modelling engine behaviour as a function of adjustable engine parameters, predicting the output of the engine. The aim is to calibrate the electronic engine controller to meet decreasing emission requirements and increasing fuel economy demands. Modern engines have an increasing number of control parameters that are having a dramatic impact on time and e ort required to obtain optimal engine calibrations. These are further complicated due to transient engine operating mode. A new model-based transient calibration method has been built on the application of hierarchical statistical modelling methods, and analysis of repeated experiments for the application of engine mapping. The methodology is based on two-stage regression approach, which organise the engine data for the mapping process in sweeps. The introduction of time-dependent covariates in the hierarchy of the modelling led to the development of a new approach for the problem of transient engine calibration. This new approach for transient engine modelling is analysed using a small designed data set for a throttle body inferred air ow phenomenon. The data collection for the model was performed on a transient engine test bed as a part of this work, with sophisticated software and hardware installed on it. Models and their associated experimental design protocols have been identi ed that permits the models capable of accurately predicting the desired response features over the whole region of operability. Further, during the course of the work, the utility of multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network based model for the multi-covariate case has been demonstrated. The MLP neural network performs slightly better than the radial basis function (RBF) model. The basis of this comparison is made on assessing relevant model selection criteria, as well as internal and external validation ts. Finally, the general ability of the model was demonstrated through the implementation of this methodology for use in the calibration process, for populating the electronic engine control module lookup tables.

Entwicklung von Modell-zu-Modell-Transformationen für Benutzungsschnittstellen in der Domäne der Industriellen Automatisierungstechnik / Development of Model-to-Model Transformations for User Interfaces in the Domain of Industrial Automation

Freund, Matthias 09 October 2017 (has links) (PDF)
User Interfaces (UIs) in the domain of industrial automation serve the operation and monitoring of technical processes. The Model-based User Interface Development (MBUID) represents a promising concept for the automatic generation of such UIs. However, the realization of this concept for a specific use case requires the development of one or multiple model-to-model (M2M) transformations. Using existing transformation frameworks, this represents a complex, error-prone, and thus costly task. This applies especially to developers without deep knowledge of model-based technologies and can in some circumstances even cancel out the advantages promised by MBUID. In order to simplify the process of developing model transformations, this thesis proposes a specific methodology as well as its prototypic implementation by means of the PAMTraM framework. This methodology addresses the special underlying conditions of UI development in the domain of industrial automation and is based on three main concepts: The basis is formed by the configuration of M2M transformations in ambiguous, conditional mapping models. These only capture mappings between elements of the source and the target UI modeling language of a transformation. In contrast to existing approaches, the developed methodology explicitly takes into account the possibility for ambiguous mappings that are common in the domain of UI development. Furthermore, developers can specify explicit context conditions that prevent the necessity of a modification or redevelopment of a mapping model in case of a changed context of use (e.g. a new hardware platform). Individual transformations for one or multiple source and context models can be executed based on a configured mapping model. Therefore, a special generic transformation algorithm is presented. By autonomously analyzing the target UI modeling language, this algorithm is even capable of executing incomplete mapping models. As a result of this, the developer has to integrate less information in the mapping model. However, due to this approach, ambiguities may occur at various points during the course of a transformation. In order to be able to resolve these ambiguities, various strategies like the consultation of the user are presented in this thesis. The third main concept is formed by two approaches for higher-order transformations that allow the partial semi-automatic generation resp. completion of mapping models among others in the context of iterative development processes. This further simplifies the development of mapping models and allows for the step-wise reduction of occurring ambiguities as far as necessary. Representative case studies from the considered domain as well as an analysis with regard to general criteria for the assessment of transformation frameworks prove the functionality of the proposed methodology and its prototypical implementation. A concluding evaluation shows that the developed methodology satisfies the specific requirements concerning UI development in the domain of industrial automation and is suited to simplify the development of model transformations.

Juhrisch, Martin 12 January 2010 (has links)
- (Die Dissertation ist veröffentlicht im Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH, http://www.logos-verlag.de, ISBN: 978-3-8325-2402-9) / With Service-oriented Architectures (SOA) companies are facing a paradigm shift towards services as the key unit of their enterprise architectures. An exploitation of the potential of Service-oriented Architectures is up to the applicability of semi-formal business models for a transformation into service compositions. However, several conceptual shortcomings prevent semi-formal models from being a suitable resource of an automated transformation process. Problems result from a multitude of modeling aims, objects, and procedures. Enhancements in order to solve these problems require both systematic preparation, and a methodical approach. This thesis provides a modeling method for business process-oriented SOA design using a meta-model based approach. An integrated modeling environment gives an overview of business requirements and allows appropriate assignment of SOA services to the business functions at the same time. The research refers to the example of process-oriented analysis and optimization of administrative procedures in German universities.
