A Study on Marine Education in Secondary School Status and Improvement StrategiesWu, Yun-sheng 08 September 2008 (has links)
Taiwan is an island country, and thus the relationship between Taiwan and ocean is very closed. In 2007, the Ministry of Education published ¡§The White Paper on Marine Education Policies¡¨. In 2008, the Ministry of Education subsumed marine education into the A trial nine-year compulsory's subject. In this study, the author integrated marine educational related references, actual interviews and questionnaire survey of the teachers who Teaching in Secondary School in Central and Southern Taiwan. In addition, the author investigated the understanding and importance of the teachers. The purpose of this study is to explore the incorporation into secondary school curricula and improvement strategies. However, the teachers may face comprehensive problems when they conduct marine educations. Some suggestions and thoughts are provided at the end of this research for teachers and researchers' future use. The author analyzed the statistical dates of this study, and concluded as followed: (1) teachers have the motivation to spread marine educations; (2) teachers were deficient in teaching means and teaching materials of the marine educations; and (3) the awareness of marine consciousness had not increased and improved. According to the above conclusions, the author suggested: (1) upgrading proseminars' assessment and feedback mechanism; (2) providing more channels for the teaching means and teaching materials of the marine educations; and (3) promoting the marine consciousness in educational environment. According to the research results, there were some suggestions for researchers' future use: (1) integrating elementary school, secondary school, and senior high schools' marine educations; (2) keeping assessing marine educations; and (3) appraising the management of marine education resources center and web site.

Studies on the core value and strategy of marine education in TaiwanChen, Shiou-yin 21 July 2010 (has links)
The influences of global warming on nature disaster and other environmental changes in water sources and ecology resources stir up all the people to learn about the importance of marine education. The terrestrial environment vicissitudes are the results of ignorance related to human that the oceans and seas have been suffered from the serious pollution and destruction. The marines belong to global citizens as well Taiwanese. This matter is related to whole human beings and needs to be faced seriously. Only by establishing the same mutual recognition to the problems of ocean, the marine education would have the supports of the international societies and scholar¡¦s value. The marine education is the topic which the world must face together. Regarding a country, all have to integrate with as a whole including politics, economy, national defense, humanities, science and society for dealing with the matter of marine education. This research is initiated for assessing the core value and the strategy of Taiwan impetus marine education. The main objective is to understand the marine educational policy and its action plans on carrying out the framework with various aspects. This study collects and searches literatures published by domestic and foreign scholars, the materials in related fields, and execution experiences of the overseas marine education. Referencing the summary of collections, this research analyzes and discusses the present status of the domestic marine education. This study also makes an attempt to propose the future improvements and suggestions.
However the marine educations should be put into real activities and may be modified with changes. Though, there are some problems in the curriculum guidelines, in the future, the most important thing is to set up the strategies to put these guidelines into practice and be prepared to implement them at all levels of schools. This research concludes that the oceans deeply affect the Formosa, a beauty island, in its destiny, culture, the national livelihood and the national security for 400 year history of Taiwan. Strengthening people's marine consciousness should be emphasized to enhance the communities to focus on the true value of the marine educations. However, the present marine education is not established based on the same mutual recognition in the impetus of domestic marine education. The local governments develop its own strategies respectively in the fields without total plans, and not integrate with related resources. The promotion of marine education should apply the cooperation models of resources conformity and strategy alliance, and induct the concept of sustainable development to construct the control table and manageable strategy for the marine education. These would put the ideas, the goals, the prospects, the strategies for the sustainable development of marine education into realistic achievement gradually.

A Performance Study of Marine Education Programs for Teachers in the National Museum of Marine Biology and AquariumLi, Kun-Yeng 25 August 2003 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to explore the performance of Marine Education Curriculum in the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium. The study explores the differences between in-service training teachers¡¦ personal characters and the performance of marine education curriculum. The performance includes the 3-dimension framework (cognition, technique, and affection) and integral experiences. Through integrating marine educational related references, observation and questionnaire survey of the teachers who participated in the marine education curriculum in National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, the researcher analyzes the statistical dates, and the result of the study is as follows:
¢¹.The participative proportion of the teachers is higher under the following characteristics: female, single, teaching in elementary school, 20~25 years old, living in Kaoshiung ,university-educated and practice teacher¡CThe major participative motives of the teachers are broadening views and personal interest¡C
¢ºThe teachers enhance most cognition in the segment of designing conception in marine learning sheet. The teachers enhance more ecology cognition from the Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium in the segment of designing conception, fountainhead ecology, coral grown environment. The teachers enhance less ecology cognition in the segment of marine research apparatus and particular ecological condition. The teachers enhance most technique in the segment of performing commentary skill. The teachers enhance most affection in the segment of marine knowledge acceptability. The most participative handicap of the teachers is the long route to the Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium. The favorite curriculum of the teachers is to tour and visit the marine ecological displays in museum. The teachers most approve that to design marine learning sheet would enhance students¡¦ marine ecological studies.
¢»The marine educational cognition enhancements were influenced by the teachers¡¦ characteristics including sexes, teaching subjects and school regions. The teachers¡¦ participative motives influenced the technique, and affection enhancements.
¢¼The participative handicap of the long route to the Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium is influenced by the teachers¡¦ sexes and school regions. The teachers whose participative motive is tour and rest considered that absences and errands of school administration. The greater parts of the teachers liked to tour and visit the marine ecological displays in museum. The other marine educational favorite curriculums were influenced by the ages, service qualifications, teaching demands and personal activities. The integral agreements were influenced by ages and personal activities. The activity satisfactions were influenced by service qualifications, teaching grades, educational backgrounds and personal activities

Communicating science : developing an exhibit with scientists and educatorsLemagie, Emily 28 October 2011 (has links)
Outreach is a small, but significant component to modern research.
Developing an exhibit for public display can be an effective way to communicate science to broad audiences, although it may be a less familiar method to scientists than writing papers or giving presentations. I outline the process of developing an interactive exhibit for outreach, and evaluate and discuss the effectiveness of a computer exhibit designed to communicate estuary currents and scientific modeling using Olympia Oyster restoration in the Yaquina Bay estuary as a theme. I summarize the results of this project in three primary recommendations: 1) exhibit developers should be deliberate in the decision to use a computer and only select this media if it is determined to be the best for communicating exhibit learning outcomes, 2) the design of visualizations to convey research results should be carefully modified from their scientific forms to best meet the exhibit learning outcomes and expectations of the exhibit audience, and 3) scientists should play an integral role in the development of scientific content-based exhibits, but their expertise, and the range of expertise from other members of the exhibit development team, should be strategically utilized. / Graduation date: 2012
