Application of Web Mashup Technology to Oyster Information Services

Chuindja Ngniah, Christian 15 December 2012 (has links)
Web mashup is a lightweight technology used to integrate data from remote sources without direct access to their databases. As a data consumer, a Web mashup application creates new contents by retrieving data through the Web application programming interface (API) provided by the external sources. As a data provider, the service program publishes its Web API and implements the specified functions. In the project reported by this thesis, we have implemented two Web mashup applications to enhance the Web site oystersentinel.org: the Perkinsus marinus model and the Oil Spill model. Each model overlay geospatial data from a local database on top of a coastal map from Google Maps. In addition, we have designed a Web-based data publishing service. In this experimental system, we illustrated a successful Web mashup interface that allows outside developers to access the data about the local oyster stock assessment.

An effective approach for network management based on situation management and mashups

Rendon, Oscar Mauricio Caicedo January 2015 (has links)
The Situation Management discipline is intended to address situations happening or that might happen in dynamic systems. In this way, this discipline supports the provisioning of solutions that enable analyzing, correlating, and coordinating interactions among people, information, technologies, and actions targeted to overcome situations. Over recent years, the Situation Management has been employed in diverse domains ranging from disaster response to public health. Notwithstanding, up to now, it has not been used to deal with unexpected, dynamic, and heterogeneous situations that network administrators face in their daily work; in this thesis, these situations are referred to as network management situations. The mashup technology also allows creating solutions, named mashups, aimed to cope with situations. Mashups are composite Web applications built up by end-users through the combination of Web resources available along the Internet. These composite Web applications have been useful to manage situations in several domains ranging from telecommunication services to water floods. In particular, in the network management domain, the mashup technology has been used to accomplish specific tasks, such as botnet detection and the visualization of traffic of the border gateway protocol. In the network management domain, large research efforts have been made to automate and facilitate the management tasks. However, so far, none of these efforts has carried out network management by means of the Situation Management and the mashup technology. Thus, the goal of this thesis is to investigate the feasibility on using the Situation Management and mashups as an effective (in terms of complexity, consuming of time, traffic, and time of response) approach for network management. To achieve the raised goal, this thesis introduces an approach formed by mashments (special mashups devised for coping with network management situations), the Mashment Ecosystem, the process to develop and launch mashments, the Mashment System Architecture, and the Mashment Maker. An extensive analysis of the approach was conducted on networks based on the Software-Defined Networking paradigm and virtual nodes. The results of analysis have provided directions and evidences that corroborate the feasibility of using the Situation Management and mashups as an effective approach for network management.

Μπέσσα, Σωτηρία 01 October 2008 (has links)
This paper is a follow up of the previous work concerning the Web Engineering Resources Portal (shortly WEP). It consists of a Reference Model and a Resources Portal. The aim of WEP is to provide a tool for web engineering as well as a reference for the development of applications / information systems and a guide for finding and understanding web engineering technologies and tools. Here we deal with that last part and the educational aspect of WEP which we are trying to achieve. Briefly, the thesis involves three parts: Firstly, the study of modern possibilities for collecting and importing information regarding the choice of suitable tools and the development of our own methodology. The rapid growth of data volume rendered obvious the problem of finding and extracting of ''useful'' or ''desirable '' information, since there is an abundance of development tools (which are indeed constantly renewed) for every category of web application making the process of choosing the most suitable ones particularly laborious and time-consuming. Secondly, it refers to the enforcement of the above methodology aiming at the import of resultant tools with the transformation of information in XML for the layout of WEP. We explain the way the import and management of content using XML technology is completed and we come to the adaptation and implementation phase through the Stringbeans framework. Thirdly we try to highlight the educational character of WEP portal. The concept of e-learning is described and the various alternatives at the age of Web 2.0, where the users participate actively in the writing of educational material are taken into consideration. Furthermore, we analyze the characteristics of PLE (Personal Learning Environments) and LMS (Learning Management Systems) quoting advantages and disadvantages of both. Finally, we lead to a general evaluation of our effort, mentioning the results and the objectives that were achieved, the conclusions and our proposals for the future.

User-generated service : a user-centered design approach in web mashups through social experience / Services générés par l'utilisateur : une approche centrée sur l'utilisateur, de conception de mashups web à travers l'expérience sociale

Zhao, Zhenzhen 02 May 2012 (has links)
Le système, appelé Dig-Event, fournit un espace social ouvert pour les utilisateurs afin de partager les événements et découvrir les activités d'intérêt mutuel parmi les contacts sociaux / Web 2.0 is envisioned as an open garden for services and it puts people into the centre of the vision. The success of the user generated content raises the new idea of enabling end-users to create their own services. The first contribution of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive survey of the state–of-the-art development in this area. We give the specific description of UGS, and then go through different technologies to analyze their challenges. Our second contribution lies in designing and implementing a simple mashup platform which provides the greater motivation for mashups usage. We present a consumer mashup framework based on daily activities, by relating every-day calendar events to useful gadgets. The system, named EBSP, was evaluated by 131 end-users to test for its usability. Also, as a representative example, the system is used in a proposed user-acceptance model for consumer mashups. Our third contribution focuses on the problem of using social annotation to support web widget discovery. An enhanced web gadget discovery model is proposed based on social tagging. Using the online service Widgetbox.com, we demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of our proposed model. Fourthly, we designed a novel system for activity-oriented online social networking named Dig-Event. Dig-Event provides an open, social space for users to share events and discover the activities of mutual interests among social contacts. It allows users to share their activities, to customize their social circles, to conduct events, and to socialize around them. The features of event recommendation and integration with existing social networks further boost the event socializing experience

A estética do mashup / The mashup aesthetics

Souza, Randolph Aparecido de 24 March 2009 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Randolph Aparecido de Souza.pdf: 2953752 bytes, checksum: 949dcc91b6de02061dbf28192a5d8e57 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-03-24 / This research discusses the mashup practice, particularly the one of web applications, while own aesthetics, that translates a contemporary sensibility, reflex of the remix culture of which emerges. Copy, cut or paste are now intrinsic actions to the daily of the cyberspace, where the recombination of information is evidenced as usual practice. In this context, how to identify and relate the mashup aesthetics? Such scenery incites the further study concerning mashups, in search to trace a descending and contemporary overview by means of investigation and identification of its origin, structure and practical in the digital medium. To debate these issues was accomplished a historical redemption, in order to present the concepts and artistic movements precursors relative to its essence. The mashup comprehension advances in scope of the remix sphere. The issues referring to collaboration, interaction and authorship, as well as the conceptualization of the practical, based on the malleability of the binary code and the transposition between a medium to another one; will be sustained from the studies of Lev Manovich and Eduardo Navas. Thus, the analysis of the structure and functioning of mashups applications in the digital medium, demarcated by means of the considerations from Duane Merrill, consists in better assimilation to these reflections, since specifies the technological characteristics that define them. In intention to reorganize the several mashups models found in the net, it makes mapping inspired on Merrill s classification, however, propose own categories; supported in case studies made through the analysis of web sites that use the technique. With effect, it verifies that the mashup process former, based on combination of one or more sources for formation of something new, is the same adopted in different periods, in other words, is not entirely innovative; varies only the form of employment applied, in the relationship of the predecessors concepts to the technology and emerging medias. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of the proposed classification for mashups mapping in the revelation of organic categories, that allow thus to illustrate the fluid movements of associations and inter-relationships characteristic of its organization, in an accurate portrait of the universe of unlimited possibilities of imbrication in which they inhabit / Esta pesquisa discute a prática mashup, particularmente a de aplicativos web, enquanto estética própria, que traduz uma sensibilidade contemporânea, reflexo da cultura remix da qual emerge.
