This thesis examines whether the McCallum´s rule, which targets nominal GDP using the monetary base as its instrument, would be more successful in achieving the goal of smoother path of nominal GDP with inflation staying on target, had it been in place of the actual historical monetary policy in the Czech Republic. To assess the performance of McCallum´s rule, I calculate simulated paths for nominal GDP and money base, using counterfactual simulation method. The results suggest that, compared to the historical monetary policy, the rule would not be able to secure a smoother path of nominal GDP and would bring only a slight improvement in the central bank´s ability to keep average inflation on its target. These results are not convincing enough to support a decision in favor of replacing the current regime of inflation targeting with nominal GDP targeting regime based on McCallum´s rule. Even so, it would be possible to use the rule under the current regime as a benchmark or a monitoring tool for assessing the stance of monetary policy.

This thesis explores the development of individuality in Nigerian books for young adults, Akata Witch and Akata Warrior by Nnedi Okorafor. For that, the literary concepts of young adult literature and the heroic journey (monomyth) is used. This thesis aims to prove that the heroic journey framework may be applied to young adult literature, primarily concerning the formation of identity resulting a certain correlation between the two types of narrative. Based on the description of concepts of literary theory, such as the Other, described by Robyn McCallum, and the individual constitutive elements of the heroic journey, in the theoretical part, the analysis from both vantage points and subsequent correlation between them is described in the practical part. The two books that are analysed are described from the point of three major concepts of young adult literature and all twenty six steps of the heroic journey, based on Campbell and other literary theorists. Based on this analysis, it is concluded that there is a certain correlation between the two narrative frameworks. It is especially similar concerning the growth of individuality of its protagonists. Cette étude traite de l'industrie québécoise de la bière au XIXième siècle à travers une importante famille de marchands-brasseurs de l'époque, la famille McCallum. En plus de situer la place qu'occupent ces marchands-brasseurs à l'intérieur de l'industrie canadienne et bas-canadienne de la bière, elle les situe à l'intérieur même de leurs entreprises en décrivant la manière dont ils se sont pris pour accaparer la majeure partie de la production et du marché de la bière à Québec. De plus, cette étude fait la lumière sur la façon dont était fabriqué ce produit, sur ceux qui le fabriquait, sur la fluctuation des prix ainsi que les facilités et les difficultés à produire cette denrée dans une économie dépendant encore en majeure partie de la métropole. / Québec Université Laval, Bibliothèque 2013
