The impact of leader member exchange on shop-floor worker innovation in South African manufacturing firms

Jordaan, Carl David 23 February 2013 (has links)
This study investigates the impact that certain constructs of Leader Member Exchange (LMX) between supervisors and shop floor workers of South African manufacturing firms have on the willingness of the shop floor workers to introduce new ideas. In particular, the constructs; trust, development of skills and inclusion of the worker is examined. Since shop-floor workers are intimately involved with their day to day operations and work at the coalface, the ideas recommended by these individuals are suggested to often be antecedents of innovation. By gaining an understanding of the relationship between the aforementioned LMX constructs and the willingness of shop floor workers to introduce new ideas, certain modes of behavioural interaction can be implemented in order to enhance shop floor innovation. It is argued that such strategic intervention in turn will result in shop floor innovation as a source of competitive advantage for an organisation. The primary data was collected through physical interviews using a questionnaire that addresses all the mentioned constructs. All of the 50 dyads were usable in the correlation and regression models run. The outcome of this research supports the literature that trust and inclusion are positively correlated with the willingness of shop floor workers to introduce new ideas. Notably was the extent to which workers and supervisors perceived levels of worker inclusion differently. The regression analysis reveals that some of the willingness of workers to introduce new ideas can be explained by the presence of all three explanatory variables namely, trust, development and inclusion. The research has shown that trust contributes to willingness of workers to introduce new ideas, but in contrast to literature, development has a negative impact. The results provide insight into the relationships between these constructs and the willingness of shop floor workers in South African manufacturing firms to introduce new ideas. / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / unrestricted

Sjuksköterskans uppfattning av anhörignärvaro vid återupplivningsförsök. : En litteraturöversikt / Nurses’ perception about family presence during resuscitation. : A literature review

Andersson, Fredrik, Håll, Josefine January 2020 (has links)
Background: One of the most common causes of death in Sweden is cardiac arrest. Family members can be present during resuscitation. Aim: Describe nurses’ perception about family presence during resuscitation. Method: This is a literature review. Data collection was performed in the databases Cinahl and PubMed. 15 scientific articles form the basis of the result. The analysis process has been done in three stages.  Result: Five main themes were identified: Family presence, decisions regarding family presence, family presence affects the nurses’ work, the importance of family members to be present and family members need of support. Disagreements emerged among the nurses as to whether family members should be allowed to be present during resuscitation or not. Nurses experienced a higher level of stress if family members were present and family members interrupted the work in different ways. There were also benefits for family members if they were present during resuscitation.  Conclusions: There are differences of opinion if it’s beneficial or not to have family present during resuscitation. Family presence affect the nurses in a negative way while it appears to ease family members grieving process and they also have the opportunity to witness that every available treatment is performed. It’s important to have a staff member set aside to inform and answer family members needs if they are present during resuscitation.

Deliktní odpovědnost člena statutárního orgánu obchodní korporace vůči třetím osobám / Tortious Liability of a Member of a Statutory Body of a Business Corporation Towards Third Parties

Flídr, Jan January 2020 (has links)
The dissertation addresses liability borne by members of statutory bodies (directors) for damage caused to third parties (parties not involved in the relevant corporation) where the director commits a tort in discharge of his/her tasks for the corporation, as stipulated under the general provisions of tort law. The dissertation is structured into an introduction, four chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter outlines the foundations for the analysis of directors' liability for torts. In the second chapter, the author tackles the topic of liability that directors bear under civil law for any tortious acts they commit, concluding that directors are liable to compensate any damage caused by a tort committed by them while acting for the relevant corporation. The director's personal liability vis-à-vis the aggrieved party for any tort committed is not prejudiced by the fact that the director committed the tort while performing his/her tasks; this circumstance only means that the tort will be attributed to the legal person, which then is liable for the tort together with the director. The author primarily argues here that the principles governing legal representation are not applicable to torts committed by directors, and the legal consequences of the tort thus cannot be attributed solely to the legal person...

Povinnost loajality člena statutárního orgánu obchodní společnosti a povinnost loajality společníka obchodní společnosti v jejich vzájemném srovnání / Comparison of duty of loyalty of a member of governing body of a company and duty of loyalty of a company member

Hubáček, Tomáš January 2020 (has links)
The Duty of Loyalty of a Director of a Company and the Duty of Loyalty of a Member of a Company in Their Mutual Comparison Abstract According to the valid legislation, both the member of a company and the director of a company are subject to the duty of loyalty. The duty of loyalty has different content in relation to these persons and affects them with different intensity. The aim of this thesis is to compare selected aspects of the duty of loyalty of the member of company and the director of company. The first part presents initial doctrinal and judicial evolution of the duty of loyalty of the member of company and the director of company in the legal order of the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the essence (creative elements) of the duty of loyalty of mentioned persons is discussed. In this context, legal doctrine concludes that the essence of loyalty of the member of company and the director lies, amongst other matters, in contract. However, each of these persons has a different obligation, which is associated with different rights and duties of the relevant members of company's bodies. The aim of the first part is to develop the issue, which I consider crucial for understanding arguments and conclusions presented in the thesis. In the second part, I try to identify the interest which the member of company...

Family Ownership and Payout Policy : A Study of Ownership and Dividend Policies in Swedish Firms

Hultén, Adam January 2020 (has links)
Ownership structure is referenced as one of the key determinants of policy decisions and corporate governance of companies however suggested implications of different structures part in previous research. This study investigates the relationship between different ownership structures and dividend policy decisions taken by a firm and sets out to identify how family ownership in specific differs from other ownership structures. The study follows a framework based on a number of postulated hypothesis based on previous findings of similar investigations and applies it to a Swedish setting. A model is constructed consisting of variables describing ownership, financial and market conditions in Swedish firms from the period 2010-2019. Some, yet sparse, evidence is found indicating differences in dividend policy can be derived from differences in ownership, yet results clarify dividend policy decisions are based on a complex set of conditions not easily captured in a single model.

Leader Member Exchange Theory and Psychological Contract Fulfillment: An Empirical Study in a Vietnamese Organization

Le Thi Bao, Quynh, Javaid, Taha January 2020 (has links)
Background:  Leader member exchange (LMX) theory focuses on the different associations established by the leaders with their followers through a system of exchanges (high quality and low exchanges), whereas a psychological contract is a tacit agreement between the employer and employee and comprises of employee's beliefs regarding the mutual obligations between the employee and an employer. Since an organization communicates and negotiates through its representatives which indicates people in managerial positions, it is meaningful to draw that the relationship quality between employee and their supervisors may affect the tacit agreement between the employee and organization. Though prior integration of Leader Member Exchange theory and Psychological contract has established the link between these two area of literature, as well as LMX dimensions to Psychological contract fulfilment, there is no empirical study taken place in Asia where Anand, Hu, Liden and Vidyarthi (2011) once observed that LMX and its dimensions may operate differently in more collectivistic and higher power distance cultures. Therefore, this research aims to examine the two main aspects of literature in one of the leading construction management of Asia located in Vietnam.   Research questions: Does LMX improve psychological contracts between the organization and the employees? Sub-research question: What is the effect of LMX dimensions on psychological contract fulfilment? Is there any right mix of LMX dimensions in the organization that positively affects the psychological contract?   Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the interaction effects of leader-member exchange (LMX) and its dimensions on psychological contracts in one specific organization, in other words, it investigates to answer if the different quality exchanges between the leaders/managers with employees support to enhance better mutual obligations between them and give negative or positive effects to the psychological contracts. Secondly, it figures out what exactly is the effect of LMX dimensions on psychological contract fulfilment. Practically, it is to help the researchers and practitioners recognize the increasingly important role of psychological contract which is normally unwritten in formal contract but otherwise gives huge negative influence which results in losing employee’s retention and loyalty. Accordingly, by generating “leader-member exchange” more effectively, the leaders will distribute and/or exchange resources toward the employees better which results in better employee retention and talent management strategies, directly contributing to the organization’s long term sustainable development.   Theoretical framework:  Articles were used for this thesis were meticulously chosen, focusing on reliable sources and quality content that cover the theoretical background of both main research area of Psychological contracts and Leader-Member Exchange during their historical research until recent. Particular information of the empirical organization and the related industry were brought from the organization and related reports and professional analysis from industry experts.   Method: This is a cross-sectional study whose methodology choice is a Mixed methods research which inquires the involvement of both quantitative and qualitative data, integrating these two forms of data with narrative analysis. The data was collected from a construction management organization consists of 385 employees. It adopted interpretivism philosophy in order to create new, richer understandings and interpretations of issues related to social worlds and context, in particular exploring the issue of whether LMX theory have an influence on psychological contracts fulfilment. It follows a deductive reasoning as its main approach.   Discussion and Conclusion: Based on the results of respondents’ surveys and the interpretation of the attendants from Focus Group, the discussion was structured and analyzed in line with the structure of the theoretical framework. The study reveals that the psychological contract fulfillment depends not only on the right combination of LMX dimensions and the concern of those most important dimensions but also the distinct characteristics of the organization which concern about their organization behavior and industry features. The study also provides solutions to leaders in order to overcome the problems associated with LMX that can lead to psychological contract breach.   Originality/Value – This is the first study that focuses on examining the effect of LMX and its dimensions on psychological contract fulfilment in an Asian country.

Does Religion Buffer the Impact Combat Exposure has on Depressive Symptomology?

Sherman, Haley M, BS, CFLE, Frye-Cox, Nick, PhD, Lucier-Greer, Mallory, PhD, LMFT, CFLE 03 April 2020 (has links)
Seventy percent of service members identify as religious, and an accumulation of evidence supports the protective role religiosity may play in buffering mental health outcomes; therefore, it is important to examine if religion acts as a buffer for these individuals. Guided by religious coping theory, this study examined whether religiosity moderated the effect of combat exposure on depression in a sample of U.S. Army Soldiers (N=10,666). Data were drawn from the All Army Study (AAS) component of the larger Army Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers (STARRS) dataset. Using moderated path analysis, findings suggest that religiosity moderated the association between combat exposure and depression, such that higher levels of religiosity were associated with a lower impact of combat exposure on depression. Implications for military helping professionals include identifying leverage points for intervention such as during reintegration, particularly for Soldiers who identify religion to be important to them.

Postoje členských států k rozšiřování o země Západního Balkánu / Member State's positions towards Western Balkans Enlargement

Války, Oliver January 2020 (has links)
This thesis studies the positions EU member states take towards the Western Balkan Enlargement. We examine what forms these positions. We examine what influence does the net contribution to the European budget have, net contributors are less likely to support further Enlargement. The levels of migration and the feeling that migration is a concerning issue do not have relevant influence on the popularity of the Enlargement. We found no relevant correlation between the feeling of European citizenship and the support for the EU membership for the Balkan countries. We can, however, see that the New Member States are much more likely to support the EU enlargement than are those who became EU members before 2004. We have chosen four cases for case studies. In the case study of France, we can observe the influence of the French president on the Enlargement process and the resulting reform of its method. In the German case, the position of the political elites is a strong support of the Enlargement, even if the public are not that enthusiastic and have a lot of influence, since the German parliament has to also approve beginning of any accession talks. In the case of Greece, we can see how Greece was able to use its position as an EU member and gain leverage in their dispute with Macedonia over the name of...
