Män som offer för våld i nära relationer

Andersson, Elin January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to examine how female violence against men expresses itself. In addition the intent is to investigate how this is explained and described in society as well as how social efforts are designed towards male victims. Additionally the aim is to examine why men’s violence against women is more attentive than the opposite. The method used in this essay is a literature review constituted by previous research and reports. This essay suggests that men and women are exposed to domestic violence in the same extent but the violence differ between the genders. Men are more likely to be exposed to psychological violence whereas women are more likely to be exposed to physical violence. Consequences followed is similar between male and female victims. However, the violence that ends with a deadly outcome seems to mainly affect women. According to prevailing norms in society men is expected to be strong and superior which means they are not seen as victims, since victims are characterized by weakness and inferiority. Therefore, men refrain from seeking help and these normative conceptions also appears to be the reason why men does not receive the help they need. Because of this the violence to which men are exposed can not be noticed. As women report their victimization and due to the fact that they are exposed to severe violence than men, this violence is automatically paid more attention.

"Hon är ju tjej, tänker man" : Mäns erfarenheter som offer för våld i nära olikkönade parrelationer / "It's alright, she's a girl" : Men’ s experiences of intimate partner violence in heterosexual relationships

Vikström, Mariana January 2014 (has links)
Increasing attention has been given to men’s experiences as victims of intimate partner violence in the Western world, mostly in quantitative research, within different research fields. The aim of this research paper is to explore men’sspecific experiences of intimate partner violence in heterosexual relationships in a Swedish context, through a gender perspective and with a qualitative research approach. The paper begins by briefly mentioning key findings in existing quantitative and qualitative research, focusing on Sweden. Additionally, areas of divergence with regard to definitions and differing research approaches are discussed. The theoretical framework builds upon theories of patterns of intimate partner violence and constructions of masculinities. In the five narratives representing the primary data of the study, varying experiences of psychological and physical violence and views on gender relations and masculinities are expressed. Some key elements are identified in the narratives and these are analyzed in relation to prior research findings/theoretical framework. Prior research findings, as well as theoretical suppositions regarding men as victims of intimate partner violence in heterosexual relationships as either unthinkable or stigmatizing, are manifested also in the narratives.

Men as victims and invisible women : The link between destructive male norms and violence. A discourse analysis of Machofabriken 2.0

Birging, Ann January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine Machofabriken 2.0 through discourse analysis.Examine how concepts are filled with meaning and what alternative meanings that are excluded. Ialso scrutinized what pedagogic tools and strategies put forward to achieve change and discuss ifit is possible to approach ordinary men as violent. Furthermore, I have analyzed underpinningassumptions of gender and violence and how masculinities, femininities, violence, andresponsibility are discursively produced. I have paid extra attention to three short movies; RealLife (Sexual harassment and bystander), Ice Cream (Consent and Free will) and Step-up(Pornography) with inspiration from feministfrequency.se to explore visual media and to payattention to the Male Gaze, objectification and sexualization of women, constructed differencesbetween men and women. Feminist Frequency provided me with the concept of Tropes in theexamination of representations of boys and girls in the short movies. The examination has uncovered gender biases in Machofabriken, which privilege the male overthe female and runs the categories fixed and reveals how the masculine discourse has constructedwomen as the Other. This thesis argues, it has dismantled the destructive masculine discourse andhow subjects of both genders are positioned and constituted within that discourse. This alsomeans the construction of gender is already there, before the text, before the short movies.

Muži jako oběti domácího násilí / Men as victims of domestic violence

KUBIŠTA, Petr January 2016 (has links)
This dissertation focuses on issues of domestic violence (also known as domestic abuse) against men. It looks into the issue why male victims are not taken seriously by the Czech police forces. Domestic violence against men is less common than domestic violence against women. However those males affected by domestic abuse often struggle to find support in society and in the Czech law. They are often left to deal with the problems on their own. In many cases male victims are not treated seriously by society and police forces. It is very important to highlight this issue in society and find support by the Czech government. Abuse against men should be taken as seriously as violence on female victims. The focus should be on early intervention and prevention.
