Social entrepreneurship : the process of creation of microfinance organisations in Bolivia

Dorado-Banacloche, Silvia. January 2000 (has links)
This dissertation studies the origin of new organisational forms. It focuses on organisations that challenge existing institutional boundaries, specifically the boundaries between for profit and not for profit providers of financial services. It builds on research on the origins of the microfinance industry in Bolivia; and particularly on the creation and development of BancoSol and Los Andes, the two pioneering organisations. This research involved in-depth interviews and analysis of industry-specific documents and newspaper files. / The study builds on three research streams: collective strategy, institutional theory, and evolutionary entrepreneurship. It proposes an overarching process-model that bridges these three bodies of work and advances our understanding of three key dynamics in the creation of new organisational forms: (1) the combination of hitherto unconnected principles and practices; (2) the leverage of support and acceptance for new organisational forms; and (3) the development of endurance for the new form. / The study argues that these three dynamics occur within a nonlinear process that includes three overlying stages. The first stage involves the creation of an entrepreneurial team to launch the organisations. This team includes individuals from fields with divergent principles and practices (e.g. for profit and not for profit). The second stage involves negotiations with institutional actors to leverage support and acceptance for the novel organisational form. The third stage involves decisions, actions, and interactions that promote internal coalescence and defend the organisations from external challenges. I have labeled this process-model social entrepreneurship. The process is predominantly social as the three dynamics are defined by the social assets and relations of actors. It is predominantly entrepreneurial as it destroys existing boundaries across fields and generates an enduring combination of principles and practices previously unconnected.

Assessment of corporate social responsibility within the stakeholder theory in commercial microfinance instittutions in Bolivia.

Benitez, Mauricio Moron. January 2006 (has links)

Currently, some microfinance institutions in Bolivia are adopting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), a concept whereby sompanies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and publish the results. CSR is applied mostly by big companies in the North and in sectors more in the eye of the public, such as oil production or textile and apparel. Bolivia has been the pioneer in the commercialization of microfinance through microfinance NGO transformations. The objectives of this investigation was to asses and compare the reasons why the selected Bolivian commercial MFI's were engaged, or not engaged, in CSR. Secondly, to determine which stakeholders are more relevant for each MFI analysed, assessing how they influenced the decision to adopt or not adopt CSR and thirdly, to compare the current social performance of the selected MFI's within the framework of corporate social responsibility.

Vásquez Zúñiga, Daniel, Kukurelo Cruz, Romina, Raymundo Ibañez, Carlos, Dominguez, Francisco, Moguerza, Javier January 2018 (has links)
El texto completo de este trabajo no está disponible en el Repositorio Académico UPC por restricciones de la casa editorial donde ha sido publicado. / The microfinance sector has a strategic role since they facilitate integration and development of all social classes to sustained economic growth. In this way the actual point is the exponential growth of data, resulting from transactions and operations carried out with these companies on a daily basis, becomes imminent. Appropriate management of this data is therefore necessary because, otherwise, it will result in a competitive disadvantage due to the lack of valuable and quality information for decision-making and process improvement. The Master Data Management (MDM) give a new way in the Data management, reducing the gap between the business perspectives versus the technology perspective In this regard, it is important that the organization have the ability to implement a data management model for Master Data Management. This paper proposes a Master Data management maturity model for microfinance sector, which frames a series of formal requirements and criteria providing an objective diagnosis with the aim of improving processes until entities reach desired maturity levels. This model was implemented based on the information of Peruvian microfinance organizations. Finally, after validation of the proposed model, it was evidenced that it serves as a means for identifying the maturity level to help in the successful of initiative for Master Data management projects. / Revisión por pares

Profundidad de alcance en un contexto de comercialización de las microfinanzas en el Perú

Valenzuela Ramírez, Irina E. 10 April 2018 (has links)
Depth of outreach in the context of microfinance commercialization in PerúThis paper seeks to answer the question of what factors are conducive to depth of outreach, that is, attending to customers on lower incomes, on the part of commercial microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Peru, in order to propose measures aimed at increasing the financial inclusion of the microenterprise sector.Using a panel database containing information on the MFIs regulated by Peru’s banking, insurance, and pension fund management comptroller (Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP) and regressions with panel-corrected standard errors, the study finds that depth of outreach would benefit from lower administrative costs per borrower, the specialization of MFI loans to micro-entrepreneurs, and higher interest rates, the first two variables being those proposed by the present investigation. Meanwhile, the trade-off between MFI depth and profitability , discussed widely in the literature on the subject, would also be present in commercial MFIs. Additionally, those bodies who promote micro-enterprise development would present the greatest potential for further deepening.
