Movimento moderno, planejamento urbano e poder local em Araraquara/SP. O processo de elaboração e implementação do primeiro plano diretor - 1950 a 1982 / Modern movement, urban planning and local power in Araraquara/SP. The elaboration and implementation process of the first master plan - 1950 to 1982

Isabela Zani Donato 24 April 2014 (has links)
In the present study it had analyzed the elaboration process of the first Master Plan in Araraquara community - that it was made during 1950, 1960, 1970 decades - as from the presentation of its headmaster and the main agents who firstly acted in its conception. For that, we had to have a pattern for the economic, politic, urban and social development since 1850 - during the culture of coffee, until 1982 - period marked by the redemocratization of the Country-, under Brazilian and Araraquara\'s municipal reference, which the perspective of our search was to understand the forms of Master Plan\'s implementation in this specific period of History. It is important to emphasize our problematic studies by linking the elaboration of the Master Plan process to the modern movement, showing how modern architecture and city housing development are parts of this proceeding.

A invenção da luz moderna / Modern light invention

Lêda Maria Brandão de Oliveira 05 May 2005 (has links)
This study holds the thesis that it is possible to identify lighting strategies that are part of the characteristics of Modern Architecture, so much so that we can call them Modern Daylighting. It deals with natural lighting as a consistent element of the architectural system instead of having a exclusively technical approach. We believe that daylighting design obey to broader parameters just as architecture itself. It answers, for instance, to the constructional system, to form and to structure as well as to law or money constraints. To do so, we organized a chronological view of the invention and development of Modern Daylighting and tried to confront it with works produced during the nineties in order to verify its influences nowadays.

O relacionamento Brasil - EUA e a arquitetura moderna: experiências compartilhadas, 1939-1959 / The relationship Brazil - USA and the Modern Architecture: shared experiences, 1939 - 1959

Débora da Rosa Rodrigues Lima Hormain 09 November 2012 (has links)
The doctoral thesis examines the relationship in question, the experiences and professional exchanges occurred between the Brazilian and American architects (or immigrants in North America) in a period that extends from the recognition of Brazilian modern architecture at the international level, between late 1930s and early forties, through the second post-war until the early 1960s. Many were the exchanges between the two countries, often undeserved in detriment of those that occurred with the European continent, and in this paper we give space and seek their understanding. So the focus of the research was to demonstrate that other fronts of dialogue have been consolidated, just as the modern architecture that was done in Brazil was also beginning to dialogue internationally, and within this framework, the United States of America, new cultural center of the world, played a key role. Assuming that the relationship between Brazil and the United States was instrumental in the process, dissemination and strengthening of Brazilian modernism at the international level, the objective of the work was to understand, through the identification of the characters and analysis of the experiences and exchanges between the two countries, how these events have focused on the Brazilian architectural field. The theme was developed from a synthetic view of the interaction between the historiography of the modern movement and the historical and cultural context in which professional architects were inserted at that precise moment in history.

The Norman Eaton legacy : a critical architectural appraisal of the documentation of his domestic oeuvre

Pienaar, Marguerite January 2013 (has links)
The documented legacy of South African architect Norman Musgrave Eaton (1902– 1966), as preserved at the University of Pretoria, provides the material for a contemporary analysis and extrapolation of his domestic oeuvre through the construction of a biographical-disciplinary context and chronology. Why and how Eaton’s domestic architecture expresses its lineage of forms, space, material, and detail are explored in this study. Eaton’s architectural oeuvre demonstrates a rare encounter between the Modern Movement and Africa. The residential architecture of Eaton, he being based in Pretoria, draws strongly on the African monumental past, while denoting both a regional and universal consciousness. Local influences are drawn from diverse sources: Cape Dutch architecture, Great Zimbabwe, Eastern Africa and the unselfconscious architectural endeavours of the Ndebele. Through the systematization of his records, the researcher is able to set up a biography within context in order to capture the critical moments in Eaton’s development and his designer’s mind. The chronological study of his domestic drawings further allows for the tracing of African and other influences in relation to his travels and their translation into architectural expression. Typological plan compositions and motifs emerge with clarity to aid in providing a critical appraisal of his domestic work. / Dissertation (MArch)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Architecture / Unrestricted

Mario de Andrade colecionador: olhar para além de seu tempo / Mario de Andrade collector: look beyond your time

Dettino, Bianca Maria Abbade 02 May 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to further understand the developments of Mario de Andrade\'s art collection from the period when it was available at the collector\'s home to its transfer to the custody of the Institute of Brazilian Studies - University of São Paulo (IEB USP), thereby fulfilling Andrade\'s will to expose his legacy to different perspectives, studies and interpretations. The process that defined the collection may be divided into distinct phases, from early acquisitions to their incorporation into the University. This thesis emphasizes the relationship between the private sphere - or the collector\'s purposes and aspirations - and the public sphere - namely, the collection, understood as an independent unit and destined for public appreciation. It could be mistakenly taken for granted that this analysis is based on the assessment of the collection\'s development before and after Mario de Andrade\'s death, but public and private relations actually characterize the collection since it\'s beginning. The study is presented in three chapters, by narrowing down the subject matter in correspondent levels. The first one, conceived in a wider scale, takes into account the institutionalization of the collection. The second chapter, in turn, analyzes São Paulo\'s city by the owner of the collection. Finally, the third analyses the disposition of the objects in his house, through a reconstitution of the space
