NAK for Ext, Ascent of Module Structures, and the Blindness of Extended Modules

Anderson, Benjamin John January 2012 (has links)
This dissertation investigates the interplay between properties of Ext modules and ascent of module structures along ring homomorphisms. First, we consider a flat local ring homomorphism ϕ: (R, [special characters omitted], k) → (S, [special characters omitted]S, k). We show that if M is a finitely generated R-module such that [special characters omitted](S, M) satisfies NAK (e.g. if [special characters omitted](S, M) is finitely generated over S) for i = 1,…, dimR( M), then [special characters omitted](S, M) = 0 for all i ≠ 0 and M has an S-module structure via ϕ. We also provide explicit computations of [special characters omitted](S, M) to indicate how large it can be when M does not have a compatible S-module structure. Next, we consider the properties of an R-module M that has a compatible S-module structure via the flat local ring homomorphism ϕ. Our results in this direction show that M cannot see the difference between the rings R and S. Specifically, many homological invariants of M are the same when computed over R and over S. Finally, we investigate these ideas in the non-local setting. We consider a faithfully flat ring homomorphism ϕ: R → S such that for all [special characters omitted] ∈ m-Spec R, the map R/[special characters omitted] → S/[special characters omitted]S is an isomorphism and the induced map ϕ*: Spec( S) → Spec(R) is such that ϕ*(m-Spec( S)) ⊆ m-Spec(R), and show that if M is a finitely generated R-module such that [special characters omitted](S, M) satisfies NAK for i = 1,…,dim R(M), then M has an S-module structure via ϕ, and obtain the same Ext vanishing as in the local case.

Αρβανίτη, Παναγιώτα 04 December 2014 (has links)
Το πρόβλημα ξεκίνησε το 1955, όταν ο J. P. Serre, σε υποσημείωση της ένδοξης εργασίας του “Faisceaux Algebriques Coherents” (σελίδα 243), σημειώνει: “ On ignore s’il existe des A-modules projectifs de type fini qui ne soient pas libres” (A=k[x_1,…x_m ], k σώμα).* Το πρόβλημα λύθηκε από τους Quillen και Suslin (ανεξάρτητα) είκοσι χρόνια μετά. / This work is about the Quillen-Suslin Theorem (1976): “If k is a field , then every finitely generated projective k[x_1,…,x_m ]-module is free”. This problem started in 1955, when J.P. Serre, in his glorious paper “FaisceauxAlgebriquesCoherents” (page 243), noted: “On ignore s’ilexiste des A-modules projectifs de type fini qui ne soient pas libres ” (A=k[x_1,…x_m ],k is field).* This problem was solved from Quillen and Suslin (independently) twenty years after. For the proof of this theorem is necessary the result, due to Serre (1958): “Every finitely generated projective k[x_1,…,x_m ]-module P is stably free ” (ie. P admits a finitely generated free complement F, so that P⊕F is free). In Chapter 2 of this work, we will represent the proof of the above Serre’s Theorem and, finally, in Chapter 3, we will sketch the proof of Quillen-Suslin's Theorem, with Suslin’s method. *We ignore, if exist finitely generated projective A-modules, that they are not free.

Nombres de Markoff et catégories inclinées amassées

Lasnier, Alexandre January 2012 (has links)
C . Composantes de l'espace de Hurwitz / Components of Hurwitz spaces

Cau, Orlando 09 December 2011 (has links)
The context of this thesis is the inverse Galois problem and in particular modern approach of finding rational points on moduli spaces of G-covers. We focus more precisely the components irrédutibles Hurwitz spaces and their field of definition. For any finite group, we can construct such components defined on Q. Our method allows one more flexibility in the type of ramification of the cover. These components are obtained by deformation of certain covers in the border of the moduli spaces. Finally, these components are also compatible in a tower of Hurwitz spaces, we obtain projective systems of components of the modular tower defined on Q.

Demangos, Luca 05 December 2012 (has links)
We divide this work in two different chapters having no relation between them. In the first chapter we propose a lower bound estimate of the canonical height on a certain family of Drinfeld modules having characteristic 0, depending by the dimension of these Drinfeld module algebraic points on the base function field (into a well-chosen algebraic closure). This will take us to deeply analyze the Lehmer problem on Drinfeld modules. In the second chapter we propose a strategy to approach the Manin-Mumford conjecture on uniformizable abelian T-modules, based on the new techniques introduced by J. Pila and U. Zannier for abelian varieties defined on a number field. We propose in particular a first step in such a direction by a new interpretation of the J. Pila and J. Wilkie’s work in order to obtain an higher bound estimate on the number of torsion points of a such T-module. This would be an important basis to a future development of this method, as in the classic case.
