Mohammedkarikatyrerna och skapandet av den Andre : En diskursanalys av den andres dominerande roll och identitet i Sverige

Olszewska, Ewa January 2006 (has links)

The aim of the paper is to explore the dominating perception of the Other after the conflict regarding the Danish Mohammed caricatures. How Swedish newspapers have portrayed Arabs, which role they have been given in society and what problems they are struggling with is going to be the focus of this thesis.

As methodological approach I chose discourse analysis, since it presents a view where language defines and structures our understanding of reality. Through the study of various Swedish newspaper articles, this essay tries to illustrate the implicit yet existent negative image of the Arabs as a group and potential alternative ways of understanding the Other.

The perception of Arabs is a product of a necessary imaginary foe, a mirror image of the bad and strange in contrast to the idyllic and safe Swedish nationality. The rhetoric’s of the discourse are therefore constructed between a politics of acknowledgement and a will to culturally dominate the Other. To challenge this view the citizens of a nation must accept it as nothing more than an imaginary design.

Muslimska brödraskapets seger och fall i Egypten under somrarna 2012 och 2013 : I svenska och turkiska onlineartiklar med hänsyn till Douglas M. McLeods normativa riktlinjer

Yalcin, Özgur January 2018 (has links)
The essay aims at presenting how Swedish and Turkish media, in the light of Douglas M. McLeod's "Protest paradigm", covered the victory and defeat of Muslim Brotherhood between June 2012 and July 2013. To achieve this, I have applied discursive text- and semiotic image analysis on eight specific online articles from Dagens Nyheter, Aftonbladet, Zaman and Milliyet. The results show that the selected material do not live up to the absolute potential of protest coverage.

Aimé Césaire / Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine: dvě poetiky reagující na dvě historická období, koloniální a post-koloniální / Aimé Césaire / Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine : Two Poetics Reacting to Two Periods, Colonial and Postcolonial

Šarše, Vojtěch January 2015 (has links)
This work is dedicated to francophone authors : Aimé Césaire and Mohammed Khaïr- Eddine, to their creation and to the epoch when it was written. Even though they were originated from different countries (Martinique and Morocco) and from different epochs (before and after the decolonization), their poetics are similar in many points. Even if their historical experiences are closely connected by phases of french colonialism. The goal of this work will be to compare their poetics and to analyse how the epoch influenced and interconnected those two authors, and how they reacted to it. In the first part the common will to renovate their national literature will be described and their means to achieve this goal will be explored. The following part will be concentrated on the work of those two writers, on the characteristic attributes, on the recurrent symbols in their works and on the significance of the place of birth. The last part will be dedicated to the context, in which the authors wrote, and will clarify how the context unit or divide them. In this work, we will continuously compare common aspects of their poetics and in the same time the modification of those aspects during the transition from the colonialism to post- colonialism. Then, we will explain how this passage of the regime changed the...

Structural Behaviour of Self Consolidating Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete Beams

Cohen, Michael I. 26 July 2012 (has links)
When subjected to a combination of moment and shear force, a reinforced concrete (RC) beam with either little or no transverse reinforcement can fail in shear before reaching its full flexural strength. This type of failure is sudden in nature and usually disastrous because it does not give sufficient warning prior to collapse. To prevent this type of shear failure, reinforced concrete beams are traditionally reinforced with stirrups. However, the use of stirrups is not always cost effective since it increases labor costs, and can make casting concrete difficult in situations where closely-spaced stirrups are required. The use of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) could be considered as a potential alternative to the use of traditional shear reinforcement. Concrete is very weak and brittle in tension, SFRC transforms this behaviour and improves the diagonal tension capacity of concrete and thus can result in significant enhancements in shear capacity. However, one of the drawbacks associated with SFRC is that the addition of fibers to a regular concrete mix can cause problems in workability. The use of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) is an innovative solution to this problem and can result in improved workability when fibers are added to the mix. The thesis presents the experimental results from tests on twelve slender self-consolidating fiber reinforced concrete (SCFRC) beams tested under four-point loading. The results demonstrate the combined use of SCC and steel fibers can improve the shear resistance of reinforced concrete beams, enhance crack control and can promote flexural ductility. Despite extensive research, there is a lack of accurate and reliable design guidelines for the use of SFRC in beams. This study presents a rational model which can accurately predict the shear resistance of steel fiber reinforced concrete beams. The thesis also proposes a safe and reliable equation which can be used for the shear design of SFRC beams.
