The vindication of Christ : a critique of Gustavo Guitierrez, James Cone and Jurgen MoltmannBurgess, Michael Martyn 02 1900 (has links)
The problem of universal oppression has caused Gutierrez, Cone and Moltmann to advocate that God is orchestrating an historical programme of liberation from socio-economic, racial and political suffering. They feel that God's liberating actions can be seen in the Abrahamic promise, the exodus and the Christ-event.
Moltmann, especially, has emphasized both the trinitarian identification with human pain and the influence of the freedom of the future upon the suffering of the present. According to our theologians, Jesus Christ identified with us, and died the death of a substitutionary victim. Through the resurrection, Jesus Christ overcame the problem of suffering and death, and inaugurated the New Age. The cross and resurrection were the focal point of God's liberating activity. Liberation, or freedom, from sin and suffering is now possible, at least proleptically. We are to understand the atonement as having been liberative rather than forensic or legal, although judgement is
not ignored. Both the perpetrators of injustice and their victims are called upon to identify with, and struggle for,
freedom, with the help of the liberating Christ.
We agree with our theologians that God has historically indicated his desire for justice and freedom. The magnitude of evil and suffering still existing, however, forces us to abandon the idea that God is progressively liberating history. Nevertheless, we affirm the idea that the Trinity has absorbed human suffering into its own story through the incarnate Son. Jesus identified with suffering in a four-fold way, namely: its existence, the judgement of it, the overcoming of it, and the need to oppose it. This comprehensive identification gives Christ the right to demand the doing of justice, because the greatest injustice in history has happened to him. The atonement
was forensic, rendering all people accountable to Christ; but it was also liberative, validating the struggle against oppression. Furthermore, at his second coming, Christ will be vindicated in whatever judgement he will exact upon the perpetrators of injustice or oppression. For today the resurrection still gives hope and faith to those who suffer and to those who identify with them / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / Th.D. (Systematic Theology)

Soziale Trinität für soziale online Netzwerke : ein Beitrag zur Bedeutung des Glaubens an die soziale Trinität als Inspiration und Ressource für ein erfüllendes zwischenmenschliches Zusammenleben im Kontext sozialer Online-netzwerke / Social trinity for social networking sites : a contribution to the importance of the faith in the social trinity as a [sic] inspiration and resource for a fulfilling human communal life in the context of social networking sitesStaub, David 03 1900 (has links)
in sozialen Online-Netzwerken entgegenzuwirken. / This thesis wishes to demonstrate in how far faith in the Trinity as community of Father,
Son and Holy Spirit can contribute to a fulfilling human communal life on social networking
sites. In conversation with the three theologians Jürgen Moltmann, Leonardo Boff and Gisbert
Greshake, a concept of the Social Trinity and its implications on human communal life
is being elaborated. In a second part, the new possibilities and the gravest shortcomings of
human interactions on Facebook are depicted. Finally, it is asked, in how far the findings of
the theological discussion can be fructified in the specific context of social networking sites.
In three different aspects it will be elaborated, in which the believer can find, through his or
her incorporation into the godly community, a new perspective for his social context and a
helpful resource to counter the shortcomings of human communal life on social networking
sites. / Philosophy & Systematic Theology / M. Th. (Systematic Theology)

Pathways to healing : an empirical-theology study of the healing praxis of 'the group' Assemblies of God in KwaZulu-Natal, South AfricaThomas, Andrew James 06 1900 (has links)
The study commenced by identifying a theological problem relating to the lack of understanding regarding grass-roots African Pentecostal healing praxis. The empirical-theological approach of Van der Ven was utilised, therefore, to study the healing praxis of an African Pentecostal body, called: The Group‘ Assemblies of God, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Van der Ven‘s original framework was developed by drawing on the hermeneutic and methodological work of Cartledge.
A case study was undertaken on a Group‘ Assembly in rural KwaZulu-Natal. The use of social scientific techniques produced a wide range of results that point to the church‘s ministry of healing as a process, rooted in the Trinity, that can occur through varied channels. These pathways ended in a broad understanding of healing.
A dialogue between the qualitative results and the healing literature was used to develop a more precise theological question. Case study categories were conceptualised and then operationalised as a questionnaire. A survey was performed on all Assemblies affiliated to The Group‘ Assemblies of God in KwaZulu-Natal. A significant number of people participated in the survey which produced a wide range of data. It is found that worldview and charismatic experience form an important hermeneutic axis that influences attitudes towards the healing ministry. Conservative biblical belief, ethnicity, education and gender influence attitudes towards healing. A distinct divide exists between positive attitudes towards physical, spiritual, inner healing and deliverance and more negative attitudes towards social and environmental healing. The reflection on these results focuses on the perceived influence of American dispensational fundamentalism. The eschatology formed from these beliefs has a narrowing effect on holistic healing ministry. Moltmann‘s transformational eschatology is suggested, therefore, as a suitable alternative. The methodological evaluation finds that several problems exist with regard to research in a rural African location. The cycle concludes by offering a range of suggestions for further study. / Practical Theology / D. Th. (Practical Theology)
