Motorcyclist helmets under oblique impacts and proposal of a new motorcycle helmet testing method / Casque de motocycliste sous impact oblique : proposition d’une nouvelle méthode de test

Mojumder, Sounak 17 April 2018 (has links)
It is well know that in case of accident the head does not only impact perpendicularly to the impacted structure but presents an oblique impact condition. However none of the today helmet standards do integrate oblique impacts with the recording of the dummy head rotational acceleration. An essential aspect of the present research is to simulate real world accident and to compute the victim’s kinematic in order to extract the head impact conditions. In collaboration with University Florence (Italy) 19 cases were considered and it was shown that the head impact velocity vector presents a significative angle. A novel helmet test method has been proposed. Helmeted headfoml is impacting a 45° inclined anvil at a speed of 8.5 m/s and the 6D acceleration versus time curves are introduced into an existing head FEM in order to compute the axon strains and to derive the brain injury risk.

The Business of Narcotics : do Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs affect young men’s experience of narcotics?

Nilsson, Magnus January 2007 (has links)

In this thesis, Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs are used to measure the effects of organized crime on young men’s experience of narcotics. The study relies on panel data for Swedish counties stretching over the period 1995-2005, using results from conscript surveys to determine young men’s experience of narcotics. When applying a fixed effect model, the results show that Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs actually have a negative effect on the experience of narcotics among 18-year-old Swedish men. However, when lagging the time of establishment for the gangs one year, positive estimates are derived for individuals ever used, or been offered to use illicit narcotics. These findings are only significant on a ten percent level, but the results could implicate that it may take some time for the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs to penetrate new markets; finding a profitable way of adapting to the new market conditions. Due to possible problems with endogeneity, it’s difficult to derive any definitive conclusions regarding the true effects of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. It’s possible that the location of a new OMG is partially determined by the use of narcotics, wherefore the results are to be taken with some caution.

Abstract Date May 29th, 2009 Course Master Thesis EFO705, International Marketing Tutor Daniel Tolstoy Authors Thi Bich Ngoc Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu Nguyen Title Brand Launching and Sustaining in a Developing CountryPurpose The project is to investigate the Brand Launching and Sustaining in a The Case Study of Honda on Vietnam Motorcycle Market developing country through the study on how Honda has successfully launched and sustained its Brand on the Motorcycle Market of Vietnam. Problems Honda's Brand Launching campaign and the company's strategies and initiatives to Sustain its Brand on the Motorcycle Market of Vietnam. Methodology The realistic approach and case study method are to be applied. The information should be gathered through numerous sources: primary data from the email qualitative interviews with the managers of Honda Motorcycle Vietnam, and the email quantitative surveys among Vietnam's Honda Motorcycle users; secondary data from the articles in a variety of newspapers and magazines as well as websites. Conceptual Model The contents covered in the project are Brand Launching and Sustaining. In particular, theories related to Brand Launching in terms of Brand Identity and Brand Positioning, as well as Brand Sustaining with respects to Brand Growth and Brand Maturity should be investigated and analysed. In addition, what is of significance importance is the base of the company's Branding Strategies -the business environment of the destination country. Therefore, the disseration should thoroughly investigate the Grasp of the Market including Market Assessment (Government Policies, Demand Conditions and Market Opportunities) and Communications (Marketing and PR Activities and Social Corporate Responsibility) which serve as the foundation for the firm's market-based or fully tailored Branding Strategies to the specific conditions or characteristics of the destination nation. Findings Honda has adopted appropriate Branding Strategies (Brand Identity, Positioning, Growing and Sustaining) on Vietnam Motorcycle Market. The firm has identified its Brand as true Made-in-Japan products of high quality and reasonable price. It serves as 'the power of dreams' created in an ideal corporate culture and environment friendly working condition which is committed to advanced technology and society orientation. Honda Brand has been positioned to satisfy the needs for a transportation means of reliability, long duration, safety, hi-tech, fuel saving and environment protection of the middle and high class customer groups in Vietnam. The Motorcycle in the 20th Century Italian Literature Imagery

STRAZZI, FRANCESCA 10 March 2008 (has links)
Speaking about the influence of modern means of transport (in particular about the motorcycle) in literature, fixes a new way of studying culture, because today we have to cope with more and more powerful and technologically advanced vehicles. Intellectuals acknowledge motorcycles an important role to describing society. Thanks to the motorcycle man exploits a new strength that enables him to overcome his limits. He feels a sort of divinity embodying the same peculiarities as his vehicle. In the past the horse was the most widespread means of transport while today, in an age of airplanes, ships and trains, it has been replaced by the motorcycle, both for the rider's posture and for his contact with the environment and its expressions: rain, sun and wind as well as the perfumes of the Earth. Just like the horse's motion was in the past a way to express narrative processes, the motorcycle has inherited this task today, therefore conditioning the contemporary way of living and thinking.

Cristal, Eduardo de Oliveira January 2008 (has links)
This work presents the design and fabrication of a low cost, easy to use vehicle. The development project was to transform currently available commercial motorcycles with engines from 100-150cc. These motorcycles are transformed into three-wheeled motorcycles, increasing their load carrying capacity and adapted to transport loads and passengers with the addition of necessary safety features. The core of the development is a metallic structure that functions as a frame to assemble the desired three-wheeled motorcycle configuration, load or passenger. The structure has a triangular shape and a front point that fixes to the original frame structure at the back of the motorcycle. A suspension system securing the axle with shocks and springs is fixed to this frame. Power transmission to this rear axle passes through a series of chains and sprockets to adjust the ratio to the new load conditions, considering the load capacity and new maximum speed. The axle itself uses a differential to assure safe, comfortable and predictable handling of the three-wheeled motorcycle. The fabrication process evolved in two phases, the first being a prototype for concept homologation with the Brazilian transportation authority - DENATRAN. The second phase involved pilot production of machines according to the necessary motor vehicle standards with an objective to realize tests in real working conditions. Five prototypes were constructed and subjected to such testing, systematically transporting material in an industrial environment. The resulting final configuration is a three-wheeled motorcycle formed of several principal assemblies, each assembled according to the needs of the client and the consequent legal requirements for automotive engineering. The final product achieved "very satisfactory" performance according to users when evaluated in the areas of ease of operation, fuel consumption, and maintenance cost.

Neves, Flamarion 03 June 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation was doing a survey of perceptions of the professional motorcycle users about the quality of the product helmet as work equipment required. The study area was the city of Santa Maria RS, whose scenario mapped the profile and professional activity of the mototaxi e motofrete. The methodology applied in this thesis is exploratory purpose and quantitative nature, with a delineation of the survey used method, and is based on technical research in the analysis of statistical yearbooks on the evolution of the fleet of motorcycles, occurred between 2001 and 2010. The research was held in two steps. The first step deals with the theoretical, using the techniques of documentary and bibliographic study on standards and legislation of motorcycle helmets, and mapping the study area. The second step of the research refers to survey studies using 291 questionnaires of the representative sample of 1200 professionals, to understand the perception of satisfaction and importance on the uses and qualities of helmets. The result of this study showed that exist standards and Brazilian legislation that are in line with that recommend by the World Health Organization (WHO) and are aligned with international standards, as instruments those help to reduce the risks in traffic accidents. Identify that the professional activity with motorcycles and scooters is regulated by the federal law (Lei 12.009/2009), although it is not legal in the investigated area; show significant raise of the fleet of motorcycles in the last decade, contributing factor to modify the urban setting of Santa Maria RS, leading to a new profession known as motoboy ; reveal that this activity is structured in a informal relation, without employment, based on the flexibility and the inherent risk in the occupation; identified the drivers of other cars are the main cause of accidents involving motorcycles and, as a result of these accidents were the legs the most affected part, by the non-use of the protect equipment; in the other side, the head was the less affected, what was assigned to the use of the helmet; the visor was appointed as the helmet item that had the higher degree of insatisfaction, although was assigned as important. The research was guided by the focus on the user, appropriateness to the use , and showed the dimensions of quality in the order of satisfaction and importance attached to the helmet as: performance, comfort, durability, technical assistance and design, classifying them into equality of satisfaction and importance , except the items closures, accessories, ventilation, neck guard and visor.
