La nouvelle terminologie technologique en français canadien : Une étude sur la comparaison des stratégies de traduction des entreprises transnationales / New technical terminology in Canadian French : A study comparing translational strategies of transnational companies

Leminaho, Casimir January 2022 (has links)
Global technology companies tend to keep a standardised approach to their communication with consumers and avoid local adaptations. An iPhone is called an iPhone everywhere. However, in Quebec, law 101 requires all companies operating in the region to provide communication in French. Furthermore, in contrast to mainland France, the authorities monitor the language quality. English loanwords must be avoided, something that is in opposition with the standardised marketing approach, thus making terminology translation challenging. This study examines the translation strategies by the two largest consumer-tech companies operating in Canada, Apple and Samsung. Our hypotheses state that the Canadian French translation is likely to be marked by neologisms to avoid English terminology. Calques will show the inevitable traces of the English language, due to the proximity of French and English in Canada. In contrast, the mainland France translation will likely use English terminology to a larger extent, due to less regulation. By compiling all terminology available on the product pages of said companies in French (CAN and FRA) and English, with the software Sketch Engine, the study confirms these general tendencies but remains sceptical about the capability of the Quebec authorities to keep pace with the language development of the industry.

Znají žáci základních a středních škol význam nově přejatých anglicismů? / Do pupils of primary and secondary schools know meaning of newly borrowed anglicisms?

Jindřichová, Jana January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with comprehension of newly borrowed anglicisms into the Czech language. As newly borrowed we considered those which are listed in the dictionaries of neologisms, or have not been included in them yet. The comprehension was tested at primary school pupils and students of lower secondary school. The theoretical part describes ways of enriching vocabulary, especially borrowing from foreign languages. The main research method used in the practical part was a survey. It took place in April 2014 among the pupils of the 6th and 9th classes at one of Prague's primary schools and in corresponding classes at Opava secondary school. The results were related to the sex and age of the respondents and also to the type of school they are attending. We observed increased number of successful responses in closed questions testing the passive comprehension of anglicisms than in the open-ended questions testing the active comprehension of anglicisms. Comparing responses by gender, girls reached higher percentage of successful answers or the successful answers of boys and girls were balanced. The most striking differences brought comparison of respondents by age. Older pupils reached on all issues significantly higher success rate than younger pupils. Differences were also observed in the...

Verbos com o prefixo ver- na língua alemã: uma análise construcionista / Verbs with the prefix ver- in German language: a constructionist analysis

Araújo Filho, Marcos Antônio Alves 30 July 2013 (has links)
The prefix ver- has already been a theme of many linguistics (LEOPOLD, 1907; SCHIRMEIER, 2006, and others), that are dedicated to German language. The polissemic aspect from this prefix is the main reason for such a big interest. Unlike those authors, with this paper I analyse new verbal formations with the prefix ver- in order to discover semantic as well as morphological regularities in the process of verbal formations. Therefore, I researched new not yet lexicalized verbs in a website (http://www.deflok.de/HipHopLyrics/Texte/), composed of hip hop lyrics in German. The web address was treated as the corpus. Twelve new verbs were detected: verbassen, verspeien, verpeilen, verchecken, verächten, verkreuzen, verstumpfen, vergaukeln, verschlendern, vernabeln, verreimen, verstottern. In order to verify that these verbs were not yet lexicalized we used the following dictionaries: DUDEN (www.duden.de) and the digital version of Langenscheidt, and PONS. The dictionary DUDEN also served to specify the different meaning, that the prefix ver- gives to the derivates, in which it is part of. The theoretical support is based on the terms and definitions of the construction grammar (Goldberg, 1995), that allowed to get a new point of view about the mechanisms involved in the verb formation with the prefix ver-. Complementary I employed the definitions proposed by FAUCONNIER & TURNER (2003) to explain the meaning of certain neologism to which the construction grammar theory could not be applied.

La néologie lexicale (depuis 1960) et son actualisation en français du Québec / Lexical nelogism (since 1960) and its actualization in quebec french

Sayilov, Emil 30 November 2012 (has links)
Marked by the influx of English borrowings until “The Quiet Revolution”, the state of the lexical neologisms in Quebec French today has yet to be researched. In this context, this study seeks to classify lexical neologisms in Quebec French taken from a corpus of words which was recently analyzed and shows that Quebec lexical neologisms have varied sources of enrichment and their difference in productivity dependent on their type, formation process, origin, etc. In order to measure the effectiveness of lexical neologisms in Quebec French, this paper is also interested in its actualization that is its recognition and frequency of use in the language monitored in a linguistic survey conducted in Quebec. This work provides news perspectives and ideas for a comparative study on the aforementioned aspects of lexical neologisms in Quebec French and the French language of France.

Neologismos na mídia escrita: os empréstimos na publicidade / Neologisms in the press media: loans in the publicity

Marta Nascimento Faraco Pimentel 28 March 2011 (has links)
This research points to two processes by which can be formed neologisms and studying the neologisms originated by borrowing in corpus constituted by data collected of advertising copy written media in the Brasilian Portuguese. Palavra-escudo, palavra-espada: pejoratividade e interdiscursividade dos neologismos na política nacional da primeira década do século XXI / Shield-word, sword-word: depreciation and interdiscursivity of neologisms in national politics, in the beginning of this century XXI

Shirley Lima da Silva Braz 30 March 2012 (has links)
Traz-se, ao final, uma análise do corpus coletado, um total de 215 verbetes / This thesis aims to analyze neologisms collected in national politics in the press, in the beginning of this century. We seek to understand how they are reflecting the social and political changes in our language and what extent the language reflects these changes. The main objective is to analyze the formation of commercial names, observing the neologisms of all kinds, including foreignisms and loans from the linguistic point of view linked to the cultural aspect. In view of the importance of the name of an establishment in the commercial context. The hypotheses presented in this study claims that the process of creation/formation of commercial names, as well as the cultural relevance and identities of these names for the inhabitants of the city, through the understanding that the name is an instrument of the definition of identity and is often through neologisms, loans and foreignisms. Furthermore, in the commercial context, naming a product or space with words of a language that is thought to be known by many people, and that conveys the idea of prestige is a way of speaking and negotiating efficiently, providing investments in creative advertising, especially in other languages that convey the idea of a globalized world. For this analysis, first, the names of ten clothing stores and nine salons were collected in Palmas, the capital of the State of Tocantins and in Catalão, a city in rural Goiás, with the intention of comparing the formations of the names and explaining them, after the interviews with the owners of the businesses , which was another important step in the collection information for analysis of training and possible motivations for the use of these names by the busniness owners, as well as demonstrating the type of morphosyntactic structure of these names and their spelling. The studies are based on authors who discuss the changes observed in the Portuguese language lexicon such as Alves (1990), Bechara (1996), Carvalho (2009), Correia and Barcellos Almeida (2012), Bizzocchi (2013), and by those who deal with identity Bauman (2005) and Hall (2005), as well as Cabral and Viegas (2007) with their essays on the importance of name. In conclusion, the choices show the concern with the formation of a commercial name in order to attract the attention of the public and, in the search to differentiate their business, use names with stylized writing, in an attempt to bring some unusual element to the writing. There is also the use of resources that break the rules of official spelling, often imitating the writing of the English language when naming their establishments, whether influenced by products or services they offer, and in making such choices are revealing aspects that motivate the contemporary subject, that is, the need to respond to a global connection that shows, at the same time, something different to the people, the easiness of hybridity in relation to the new and the different.
