The specific objectives of the research were: to investigate the meanings that the prostitutes who live in nightclubs attach to their work, investigate and analyze the organization of work of prostitutes who live in nightclubs, investigate and analyze the working conditions of prostitutes living in nightclubs, investigate and analyze the working relations of prostitutes living in nightclubs; investigate aspects that trigger experiences of pleasure and suffering in prostitutes who live in nightclubs, raise and describe the coping strategies, individual and collective, that prostitutes residing in nightclubs develop to deal with suffering at their work. The participants were chosen considering the inclusion criteria as: female, over 18 year olds, profession as prostitutes who live and work in a nightclub. Obeying these criteria, 15 women were interviewed between 18 and 35 years, with educational level ranging from completed elementary school and incomplete college. To collect the data the documentary analysis techniques and individuals semi-structured interviews were used and for data processing the technique of Graphical Analysis of the Discourse. During data analysis it was revealed that the company studied, like any other, has positive and negative aspects in the management of the organization and subjectivity of the worker. As to the organization of work this is presented in a rigid way, making it impossible to balance the needs of the participants with the demands of work, highlighting the enforcing of a rhythm that neglects the welfare of workers. The time available for the activities of rest and relaxation are also not enough for them. The speech of the interviewees shows that the organization offers good food, but is weak in accommodation and in its physical structure, including reports of compromised health problems due to noise, smoke and drink. In working relations the process is satisfactory with colleagues and customers, however conflicting with management, triggering factor of suffering experiences once the control and hierarchical imposition prevails on the workers. Nowadays the working relations guide a demanding human being who seeks for his wellbeing to better share the social welfare as an actor and not just a spectator. For the prostitutes, the experiences of pleasure sustained by the recognition between them some customers, the possibility of fulfilling the dream of "out of this life, to help the family, and to go back to school, made up for the experiences of suffering coming from homesickness , tiredness and natural wear of "evenings", and society discrimination.

The conflict, from face to face to hand to hand : an immersion as a nightclub security officer

Bresson, Jonathan 22 May 2018 (has links)
Their roles as bouncer and doorman aim to prevent, track down and manage conflicts. Their professional activity is structured around the perspective of physical brutality and the risk of the occurrence of tragic events. The field work of this original research consists of the observation and analyze of conflicts: the face to face and hand to hand, excluding intimate violence and lynching. Violence in night spots constitue a worldwide criminological problem. However, it remains absent from French researches. Bodily immersion and observations by enactment ethnography are appropriate ways to study legally risky and mythologizing situations. E. Goffman’s sociology is an interesting starting point to analyze the conservation and the rupture of frames, swinging between the situation and the situated social performances. The study shows that the face to face conflict follows a graduated process: from clash to brawl, threw fight, being an interaction ritual. This disorder element, that sometimes seems confused, has its origins anchored in the violence culture which it structures in return. Conflict stays organized and is an organization element of the social order. Having an understanding of it brings back to the notion of physical brutality and questions the threshold of thedefinition of “violence”, the feeling of aggression and the “acting out” in a situationist and processual research dynamic in which moves, gestures and movement themselves become key elements.

How do sensory cues and trust affect the customer experience? : A study on the relationships between sensory cues, trust and experience in the Swedish nightclub industry

Helmefalk, Miralem (published under the name Miralem Hasanovic) January 2013 (has links)
Title How do sensory cues and trust affect the customer experience?, A study on the relationships between sensory cues, trust and experience in the Swedish nightclub industry Author Miralem Hasanovic Tutor Soniya Billore Examiner Sarah Philipson Course Marketing Master Programme, Advanced, Spring 2013, Master thesis, 30 ETCS Keywords Experience, Trust, Sensory Marketing, Sensory Cues in Offering Experiences, Nightclubs, Five Senses, Swedish restaurant industry. Purpose Purpose is to investigate the relationships between sensory marketing, trust and experience in nightclubs. Theory Sensory cues in offering experiences, Trust, Experiences. Method Mixed method approach/ Sequenced method 14 observations 7 interviews with companies 102 answers in a survey Findings Visual cues affect the experience mostly positive. Audio cues affect the experience both positive and negative, depending on other aspects as the possibility to escape the loud sound. Touch cues affect the experience mostly negative, which is possible to alter through interior and design. Scent cues are not affecting the industry as for the moment and there is a big gap to fill in here for the industry. Taste cues seem not to matter as much as the other cues. Trust is inflicting experience through expectation and fulfillment of promise. There is a weak (or least enough) correlation of trust and positive experience in nightclubs. Violence does not affect trust considerably towards a nightclub

Nightclubbing : a novel.

Oosthuysen, Chantel D. January 2003 (has links)
When Kate arrives at Heathrow airport, her best friend Jake convinces her to go clubbing with him. And so starts her journey into London's clubbing subculture with Jake as her guide. The novel is structured around Kate's exposure to the ethos of the different clubs she visits. The narration is propelled by the tension set up between the potentially salacious material these experiences provide and the 'flat' account given of it by the narrator. Kate's reserved perspective plays off against the usual expectations one has of the 'confessional' mode. This becomes particularly telling as she recounts Jake's spinning off into increasingly destructive patterns. The reader is left to deal with the cycle of spectacle and experience presented in the work on his or her own terms. / Thesis (M.A.)-University of Natal, Durban, 2003.

This work aims to illustrate the economic logics and the spatial practices of the nightlife entertainment in Londrina (Paraná - Brazil), which is understood to be a relevant aspect of the urban space production. This research give attention to the nighttime, considering this aspect has been poorly investigated in Urban Geography. The research object, which has as youth and youth cultures as the bulge, was built in the process of systematic observation of the Londrina’s nightclubs as the main research object for data collection. These premises were selected because of a spacial strategy by the nightclub’s owners that seem to reforce socio-spatial fragmentation. The four largest nightclubs in Londrina were studied by systematic observation approach and through interviewing owners, night workers and customers. Moreover, a survey was conducted in these establishments to collect information about socioeconomic and cultural profiles that support a circuit map of customer spatial practices on this format of entertainment. It is being observed that at nightlife business strategies, as such as consumer’s spatial practices, bring at its core a culture of consumerism that’s produces social distinction. This behaviour reviews certain peculiarities in the middle sized cities, that show a scale of market that seems to have more social classes sharing the same urban space compared to the same universe at metropolitan context. / FAPESP: 2013/04440-5 / CNPq: 132759/2013-6

LAZER MERCADORIA E JUVENTUDE: RELAÇÕES ENTRE O PÚBLICO E O PRIVADO A PARTIR DO CASO CONCRETO DA BOATE KISS / LEISURE MERCHANDISE E YOUTH: RELATIONS BETWEEN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE FRON DE CASE OFF CONCRETE NIGHTCLUBS KISS

Nascimento, Thaiane Bonaldo do 07 March 2015 (has links)
This research aimed to "analyze the relationship between leisure in nightclubs in the city of Santa Maria, Brazil in the legislation field" from a concrete reality: the disaster of the Nightclub KISS. As a methodological approach, we retreated from the "police investigation of Nightclub KISS" documental analysis; matters from print media "Diário de Santa Maria" from 2013 and 2014, and the Complementary Law No. 14.376, from the 26th of December 2013. And, as a mean of interpretation, we used the assumptions from the content analysis. We listed the categories for analysis: leisure as a merchandise, university students, nightclubs, legislation, Nightclub KISS, risk and safety. The analysis of the documents showed: the articulation of the leisure as a merchandise, youth and risks to the logic of capitalist production system; and that the youth search for ecstasy in leisure, and the owners search for profit relegates to second plan the aspects related to safety, in particular, infrastructure and the licenses. Moreover, the precariousness of public leisure in the city of Santa Maria makes private leisure facilities, with greater emphasis on nightclubs and the main leisure areas of the university students, which constitute themselves as merchandise, and trade desire in an alienated way. In this context, the disaster was not an accident but the result of several flaws. In short, the infrastructure and the management of safety regulations require observation and questioning beyond the condescension and the uncritical acceptance of social trends and leisure fetishization. The creation of legislations that would guarantee security to nightclubs after the disaster, especially the Law Kiss, constituted a landmark in the country. Nevertheless, the subsequent of Law Kiss, explained that the economic system and private interests remain being the great limiter of politics and hence the relationship between the public and private sectors. In the capitalist system, security is not a first-order component, it‟s the opposite, vanishes at the expense of the primary concern: profit.
