Although Cinema and Advertising are manifestations and distinct areas, there are complex and varied affinities between them. Advertising has long rested on film in its creations, drawing on established genres. An agile field in a moving world of images, sounds, ideas that mix, interrelate and therefore, at the heart of the most diverse possibilities of hybrid communication, advertising is not infrequently impregnated with cinema references, being associated to him in audiovisual production. The advertising audiovisual narrative has the purpose of attracting the viewer, surprising, seducing, provoking emotions. In this project we try to analyze the advertising and cinema interface from the intertextual relations around the noir genre. For the study will be used theoretical contribution on cinema and advertising and, especially, on the theory of intertextuality. The research intends to evaluate the presence of the genre noir in the pieces Tigre and Bardhal, seeking to assess its marketing-narrative strategies of seduction of the viewer-consumer.

Movement and space use patterns of black bears in relation to migratory caribou in Northern Quebec and Labrador

Nowack, Linda 16 January 2024 (has links)
Range expansion and colonization of a new ecosystem can be a response to maintain survival and fitness at the individual level but can also have implications on biological interactions by restructuring communities and food webs. Adding a new species to an existing habitat can have cascading effects with consequences for residents and transient species. Although warming temperatures allow some species to expand their range further north, they might experience limiting factors linked to environments at high latitudes. In my study area, black bears (Ursus americanus) face strong seasonal variation in both weather conditions and food availability that may impact their behavior, and hence their success to settle in the subarctic tundra. My work therefore focuses on the ecology and foraging tactics of black bears which recently established in northern Québec and Labrador where they are now sympatric with two migratory caribou (Rangifer tarandus) herds, the Rivière-aux-Feuilles and Rivière George herds. Because hibernation is key for black bears to surviving the harsh conditions during winter, my first chapter investigates the denning phenology of black bears with respect to seasonal variation in weather conditions. More specifically, I analyzed the effects of temperatures, precipitation rate and snow cover on denning phenology and duration to assess whether they influence the duration of the active period during which black bear build up energy reserves. Furthermore, I examined habitat type and topography variables at den locations to provide a first insight of characteristics determining den location potentially influencing the denning duration of black bears. Sex had a strong effect on denning phenology and influenced elevation used to establish a den with females entering the den significantly earlier in fall, emerging later than males in spring and using higher elevation when the topography allowed it. Bears (both sexes) also entered their dens earlier with colder temperatures in October. Warmer temperatures in fall might thus lead to extended activity before den entry but additional factors such as food availability should be considered to better understand denning phenology of black bears in the subarctic. Chapters 2 and 3 investigate behavioral adjustments of black bears due to highly seasonal variation in food availability and particularly the case of a pulsed resource due to increased availability of neonates during the calving season of migratory caribou which provides bears a highly nutritious food source. In chapter 2, I aimed to better understand how bears spatially respond to caribou distribution during caribou calving by investigating the relationship between bear movements and their respective relative trophic position. Combining space use data with dietary profiles of bears showed that common space use with caribou tended to increase the trophic position of bears. Movement and space use behaviors had no or very weak effect on the relative trophic position. Because large parts of the variation in the relative trophic position were explained by bear ID, I then investigated behaviors at individual level. I aimed to quantify consistent individual variation (personality) and then to assess correlations (behavioral syndromes) between movement and space use behaviors that could be linked to black bear foraging tactics. I found consistent inter individual variation in all tested behaviors in male black bears. Four behaviors contributed to behavioral syndromes built along an activity-exploration axis that could be related to a more predatory or herbivorous foraging tactic. Individual male black bears that performed faster movements during the caribou calving season had stronger selection for higher elevations and for habitats where they were most likely to encounter caribou. Furthermore, individual bears that selected more strongly habitat selected by caribou were closer to core areas of caribou calving. My work provides insight into individual behaviors of black bears and reiterates the importance of studying individual behaviors in addition to population averages to adequately manage expanding wildlife population. This especially needs to be considered when evaluating a species' functional role within a given ecosystem and is applicable to better understand the relationship between black bear and migratory caribou in northern Québec and Labrador.
