Krize v Ústavu pro studium totalitních režimů v českém periodickém tisku / Crisis in the institute for the study of totalitarian regimes in czech periodic press

Svorník, Petr January 2016 (has links)
The main aim of this thesis is to prove that the style of news coverage of one topic in three different Czech newspapers differs significantly, based on ideology of authors and newspapers too. News reporting should be informative, unbiased, without assessments of its author. However the resulting article is always biased in some way. The author doesn't have to use evaluating words to evaluate; he or she can affect the result by choosing right speakers, placing them in favorable or disadvantageous position or even cut them out of the text. The author can choose which story to tell and which frame to use. This thesis focuses on crisis in the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes in April of 2013, when the director Daniel Herman was dismissed and new director Pavla Foglová was appointed. This event is suitable for the study of (hidden) evaluation and ideology, because it is closely connected with communist history of Czech nation - everyone has some opinion about it, journalists included. After the theoretical explanation of main terms and concepts like signification, discourse and ideology comes the analysis of three non-tabloid Czech newspapers: Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. Their story is the main subject of this thesis.

Vliv změny vlastnictví médií na obsah vybraných deníků: případ akvizice mediální skupiny MAFRA / The Effect of Change of Media Ownership on the Content of Selected Daily Papers: The Case of the MAFRA Media House Acquisition

Štveráková, Iveta January 2013 (has links)
There seems to be growing amount of doubts about the independance of Czech media and its position in the public space since the mid 2013, when Andrej Babiš - the second wealthiest Czech entrepreneur and since 2014 also the minister of finance -- has bought MAFRA media house, which issues among others two Czech daily papers Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny. Aim of this thesis is to find out, how the change in the ownership of the MAFRA media house affected the content of the two daily papers. Such effects are analysed in articles published in Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny, firstly in general in the foreign policy topics, secondly in representation of the name of Andrej Babiš and thirdly in representation of the distinct subsidiaries of the Agrofert group. Data collection is divided into two separate periods -- before and after the acquisition of MAFRA media house by Andrej Babiš. Quantitative content analysis has been chosen as the method of research.

Vliv internetu na prodej deníků v ČR / Influence of internet on newspaper circulation in Czech republic.

Děd, Michal January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of free information on the Internet on decreasing sales of printed newspapers. I tested the main hypothesis that the increase in Internet daily visits in the previous period has an impact on the sales of the printed journal in the following period . Another researched phenomenon was the influence of previous rising visitors of web news on subsequent revenue from advertising in print version. These effects I researched on -month and quarterly data in panel of eight czech dailies for the period from 2006 to 2012. The result is that we could not confirm the effect of Granger causality between web pages and his dailies itself nor on a monthly or quarterly basis. When it comes to examining the impact of Internet visits to newspapers revenue from advertising, on the contrary, here we confirmed Granger causality on quarterly data from past revenues from advertising to the current Internet visits . This means that the Internet visits will decrease when there is increased advertising income of newspapers in the previous quarter, which is , however, difficult to interpret in economic terms . The main benefit of this work is that the effect of preceding of webiste visits and newspaper circulations was not confirmed.

Analýza aféry Jana Kalvody v článcích z Lidových novin a Deníku Právo v letech 1996 - 1997 / Analysis of the Kalvoda affair in articles from Lidové noviny and Deník Právo in the years 1996 - 1997

Novotný, Ondřej January 2021 (has links)
The thesis deals with the well - known affair of the top ODA politician and the Minister of Justice Jan Kalvoda, who resigned from all his public positions in 1996 and left the top politics. Using the method of critical analysis, the work focuses on the resonance of this act in the articles of large domestic newspapers Právo and Lidové noviny and examines how the phenomenon, which until then had no parallel in Czech politics, was approached. Part of the work is a brief look at the development of the Civic Democratic Alliance, its top personalities and achievements during Kalvod's presidency, a medallion about Jan Kalvod, the main research evaluation of selected newspaper articles that began immediately after Kalvoda's resignation and culminated in the composition of his party as chairman in 1997. The whole work was written primarily on the basis of book sources dealing with ODA and subsequently through the study of major newspaper articles from the period 1996-97. Each chapter of the research part ends with the results and in the very conclusion there is a reflection on the whole case through the eyes of the author and its comparison with other political affairs.

Vyjadřování hodnotících postojů v anglickém novinovém diskurzu / Evaluation in English news discourse

Peldová, Petra January 2017 (has links)
The thesis deals with evaluation in English newspaper discourse. The corpora analysed were newly created for the purposes of the sub-analyses; they comprise articles from three British online newspapers - three tabloids (the Sun, the Express, the Mirror) and broadsheets (the Telegraph, the Independent, the Guardian). The classification of the thesis' core dimensions of evaluation - opinion and emotion - draws on Appraisal Theory (Martin and White, 2005). The thesis pursues answers to two fundamental questions 1) What means do British online newspapers use to express evaluation? 2) What differences (if any) are there in construing evaluation between the tabloids and the broadsheets? In order to obtain the answers, at first, a small manual analysis of six 'positive' and six 'negative' articles (one from each newspaper) is conducted. Attention is paid to the key word analysis and the word classes expressing evaluation, namely adjectives, nouns, and verbs. Based on the findings, I decided to explore evaluation conveyed by adjectives, in the second part of the study, by employing evaluative adjective lexico- grammatical patterns described by Hunston and Sinclair (2000) and further amended by Bednarek (2007b, 2009). These patterns, which are associated with the dimensions of opinion and emotion, are...

Tesař, Pavel January 2014 (has links)
The thesis examines media interpretation of the Greek financial crisis in selected Czech media. It analyzes framing of this issue in Czech daily newspapers MF DNES, Právo, Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny in period of the first five months of 2010 (1.1 - 28.5.2010). Theoretical part of this thesis is based on Robert Etman's concept of framing, which was defined in early 90's. The main research question is which aspects of the Greek financial crisis were selected, and/or emphasized by Czech media and what interpretations were created using these constructions. The analysis is focused on qualitative research of selected articles using method of grounded theory. With this method it comes to interpretation of the Greek financial crisis in Czech media, detailed understanding of analyzed texts and setting up basic means of framing that are used by journalists. Quantitative analysis is exploring selected population of articles in specific period of time and answering basic research questions (How was crisis framed? How daily newspapers interpretation varied? In which way was the crisis interpreted from the perspective of Czech political scene? How did framing changed in time?). Sub-hypotheses coming from qualitative analysis are then further tested. Keywords frame analysis, framing, qualitative...
