Community-university partnership : past and present experiences with reference to the Israeli contextWeinberg, Yoav. January 2000 (has links)
Community-university projects have been a common practice in most western countries since the 1960s. However, such projects are very rare in Israel. This thesis explores the possible methods by which architecture and urban planning schools and low-income communities can cooperate and examines the ways these methods can be implemented in Israel. / The research investigates several community-university projects practiced in North America between the 1960s and 1990s. A set of interviews conducted with directors of schools of architecture and urban planning as well as with different actors in community-based organizations in Israel enlarges, hopefully, the understanding of the eventual possibility for such projects to exist in Israel. / This research reveals that although involvement of Israeli architecture and urban planning students in community issues has been so far rather limited, there are both demand and will among schools of architecture and community-based organizations to cooperate in the future. In conclusions, basic guidelines for a community-university project are given, tailor made for the Israeli context.

Evidensbaserad praktik : Socialt fältarbete i Rinkeby-Kista stadsdelsförvaltningIngram, Sofia, Larsen, Lotta January 2014 (has links)
Increasingly high demands, in western welfare states, are placed on a scientifically based social work practice; a so-called evidence based practice. The aim for the study is to investigate evidence based social work practice. This is achieved through a study of the work methods of detached youth workers from Rinkeyby-Kista district administration in Stockholm and their view on evidence based social work. The study is conducted using interviews which together with various documents are analyzed and set against a theoretical framework. The documents consist of a popular science article, two job advertisements and data from detached youth workers. The authors thus use different methods of collecting data. The theoretical framework consists of the National Board model for evidence based work and applied theoretical literature regarding evidence based practice, social work and outreach work. The results demonstrate that there is uncertainty about the concept of evidence based practice among detached youth workers included in the survey. This furthermore leads to an evidence based practice which is largely carried out without a professional awareness.

Previous issue date: 2007-05-28 / This research describes and discusses about the conjuncture and the movements of the
program so-called as Curricular Integration Activity between Teaching, Research and
Outreach (ACIEPE) since its implantation in Sao Carlos Federal University from year 2002
up to 2006, analyzing in a focused way one of its proposals. During the investigation the
information have been acquired by interviews with the Program s idealizers and executers,
also by the Program s (ACIEPE) documents, questionnaires applied to the coordinators of the
program proposals, the registries of one of the program s proposal meetings and by interviews
realized with the participants of this experience. The ACIEPE Program had been created
during a period in which UFSCar was trying to consolidate itself as a University based on the
concepts of democratic participation, academic competence and Social commitment, a
perspective that contested the neoliberal politics, which, has occupied a large area into
University space. The implantation of the program occurred within a period in which
UFSCar s graduation courses were passing through a curriculum reformulation process that
began since the establishment of Brazilian Universities Institutional Valuation Program
(PAIUB). Initially, the ACIEPE was incorporated to the courses s curriculum as an elective
discipline, lately, within the curricular flexibilization, it happened to be a complementary
curricular activity. Within the period comprehended between the years 2002-2006, 49
different proposals were done, some of them were re-offered, and now 107 classes can be
counted in. New projects of ACIEPEs have been offered each semester (at least five), at the
same time, new professors have adhered to different proposals of ACIEPEs demonstrating
that the program have been recognized as an opportunity for curricular innovation. Because
of the thematics that were chosen, the outreach guidelines, the external public and the
methodological approaches, the ACIEPEs presented different faces, which made it different
from traditional academic spaces. The proposals of ACIEPEs were consolidated as educative
spaces; constituted especially by multidisciplinary teams, which involved learning and
professors from distinct majors. In those spaces the formation offered to the graduation
students could embrace things beyond the society of the knowledge, involving aspects like
citizenship, social equality, environment sustainability, social cooperation, Human values and
etc., increasing the student s knowledge experiences, which includes the interaction with
different social groups. The practice of the inseparability between teaching, research and
outreach at ACIEPEs occurred in a diffuse and incipient manner, overall, when it comes to the
interlocution between university and External community. Focusing on one of the experiences
of the ACIEPE program entitled as The comprehension about biological knowledge essence
and its relationship with Science and biology on Basic Education it could have been
evidenced that the ACIEPEs program s intentions were approximately reached, especially the
ones related to the construction of a space that could give to the graduation students also
professional education and citizenship, even, establishing a strong link between University
and several social segments. At the same time, this ACIEPE, basing on its specific objectives
and on the perspective of complexity, can be denominated, besides its own limitations, as a
curricular innovation, based on the construction of dialogue spaces among the disciplines,
whereas it made possible to the participants, especially, the biology teachers and the
undergraduate level students of biological sciences course, to find a new significance for the
nature of biological knowledge trough the articulation with Philosophy and sociology.
informações por meio de entrevistas com as pessoas idealizadoras e executoras do Programa;
A implantação do Programa
As ACIEPEs

Microfinance : what lessons can we draw from the experiences of the developing countries?Arrassen, Wassini 04 July 2013 (has links)
After a summary of the main achievements in microfinance, the thesis provides an overview of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in developing countries between 2000 and 2009. A thorough study of microfinance in sub-Saharan Africa is also proposed. It serves as a prelude to the econometric analysis of the determinants of financial and social performances of MFIs and to the review of the trade-offs between the two objectives in this region. The model is also estimated with data from Latin America and the Caribbean to test, amongst others, its spatial robustness. The results show that despite their strong growth, MFIs remain fragile because of arrears and low profitability. In addition, there is no universal model of microfinance without regional specificities. The commercialization of the sector is called into question because although it does not necessarily lead to social mission drift, it does notimprove financial performance. Finally, the richness of the sector comes from itssegmentation while its weakness is due to its lack of organization, with competition leading to increasing risk rather than product diversification.

Transfer to higher level of care : a retrospective analysis of patient deterioration, management as well as processes involvedLe Roux, Estelle 06 1900 (has links)
In-patient deterioration is a global phenomena and timely recognition and action improves outcome. Intensive care facilities are scarce and expensive and therefore patient care must be optimal. A retrospective health record analysis was used for this study.
The findings indicated that nursing personnel do not recognize patient deterioration timeuously. However, the implementation of an outreach team and clinical markers training program improved the recognition of patient deterioration in general wards with three hours and 40 minutes.
It is recommended to implement a comprehensive hospital program that addresses the basic knowledge and skills of general ward personnel to observe, recognize, assess and intervene to patients with clinical deterioration. Together with an extensive training program, a basic physiological parameters guideline to activate a team of experts to the bedside, such as an Outreach team, assist nursing personnel to recognize and manage those patients timeuously and ensure treatment in an appropriate level of care. / Health Studies / M. Outsider Buddhism : a study of Buddhism and Buddhist education in the U.S. prison systemMcIvor, Paul 28 November 2011 (has links)
Buddhist prison outreach is a relatively recent development, in the United States of
America and elsewhere, and has yet to be chronicled satisfactorily. This thesis traces the
physical, legal and social environment in which such activities take place and describes the
history of Buddhist prison outreach in the USA from its earliest indications in the 1960s
to the present day. The mechanics of Buddhist prison outreach are also examined.
Motivations for participating in Buddhist prison outreach are discussed, including
Buddhist textual supports, role models and personal benefits. This paper then proposes
that volunteers active in this area are members of a liminal communitas as per Victor Turner
and benefit from ‘non-player’ status, as defined by Ashis Nandy. The experiences of the
inmates themselves is beyond the scope of this thesis. / Religious Studies and Arabic / M.A. (Religious Studies)

Previous issue date: 2012-03-14 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / In recent decades, globalization has changed the business environment, significantly influencing the management of business, a factor that contributes to the incorporation of social responsibility in institutions. In this regard, the social question has become more evident, showing even more social problems of nations. Because being the university a multidimensional space, the study of social responsibility in the context of traffic makes it possible to include the citizenship issue in higher education, providing for discussions about the strengthening of social and individual rights, equality and justice as supreme values of a democratic society. This survey found the University Social Responsibility from the perspective of the extent the actions of Black Outreach Program Initiatives: sharing experiences from the perspective of Course IN (2011), its coverage nationwide and its impacts in the region of Cariri. In order to achieve the outlined purposes an exploratory study was conducted. The field and the research population were fellows of the Third Course IN (2011) and the participants in the Cariri. The following data collection techniques used were: Application forms of scholarship recipients, questionnaires and field diary, which are instruments of support needed for data collection. The collected data were categorized into two major groups: those that evaluate the impacts of black outreach program initiatives through courses in Event III (2011), at the national level, those that evaluate the impact of that program from the participants' perceptions from the region of Cariri. Data analysis was based on a comprehensive approach, which values the qualitative data analysis. For the interpretation of qualitative data from this study we used the method of interpretation of meanings. The analysis shows the impacts of Course IN (2011). These impacts caused by this action denoted the social responsibility of the University Extension Program Initiatives Black: exchanging experiences.
