GIS Based Factor Identification for the Change in Occurrence of Genista pilosa : a Case Study in Southern Sweden

Bekele, Yared January 2012 (has links)
This study has the objective of identifying the possible environmental constraints that has role for the continuous loss of heathland plant Genista pilosa. The study has assessed different environmental settings where the plant occurs by way of overlaying analysis based on multiple spatial data sets. Thereafter empirical change detection analyses on the land use of the study area have been performed on the GIS environment by combining temporal based remotely sensed spatial data. The result was then analyzed using land use dynamicity model and the rates of change on each land use type are identified. Expansion of human activity, especially the spreading of agricultural land and urbanization, is found to be the most determinant factor for the dramatic loss of the plant. Finally serious attention for the protection of the plant is recommended by mentioning the possible problem that would occur due to a loss of biodiversity.

Sociological investigation of infant overlaying death

Sartain, Sheree January 2012 (has links)
Overlaying was a common nineteenth century explanation of sudden infant death while bedsharing. This thesis shows that in many cases the term overlaying was a misnomer, and instead it identifies infant overlaying death as a socio-structural historical event that can best be understood within a sociological and social constructionist framework. It expands on the work of Giddens, Elias and Archer to develop a theoretical perspective that incorporates ideas about structuration, sequestration, figuration and reflexivity. It also deploys concepts such as motherhood, infancy, infant care, the family and intimacy to explore and analyse its research materials and develops two further explanatory concepts; reflexive motherhood and the sequestration of infancy. The thesis uses ideas around discourse as socio-structural conditions of action in order to expand current understanding of overlaying death, and it explores and analyses public representations of overlaying during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to detail the discourse of overlaying. It goes on to identify cases of overlaying in Somers Town, St Pancras, c1900; and it shows the influence of social conditions in regard to the way such deaths were interpreted. It then examines other cases of sudden infant death in bed through the case notes of pathologist Dr Ludwig Freyberger, and analyses these in terms of the domestic setting and the body. It goes on to detail and analyse a dispute between Coroner John Troutbeck, Dr Freyberger and the GPs of south west London to show the ways in which the overlaying discourse was deployed to support the claims and positions of those involved. Overlaying subsequently became detached from the domestic context in which it was embedded and used to support discourses around infant mortality, maternal ‘ignorance’, medicine, national efficiency and temperance. The thesis provides a historiography of infant overlaying death and concludes that overlaying was constructed as social category of death through the actions of individuals in extensive networks of interdependence in relation to socio-structural conditions.

These are stories that become repetitive and overbearing to their subject. Because of their blocking nature, such narratives prevent the creation of alternate interpretations. Their rigidity impedes the transition of the experienced fact to memory and hampers its acquisition as such. The goal of this study is to create a venue of debate on the concept of overlaying stories, keeping such discussion in line with clinical practice, in other words, with psychoanalytical therapy. To reach said goal, we trace the delimiting paths of what we perceive as origin, history, narrative, experience and transmission, with the help of underlying areas of psychoanalysis. Then, we create a distinction between concealing stories based on the Freudian concept of screen memories and overlaying stories. With reference of work from the literary piece Austerlitz, by W. G. Sebald, as well as clinical observation based on treatment by the author, we seek further familiarization with the phenomenon of overlaying stories, relating it with the former meta-psychological discussion. It also covers the relevance of the concept of overlaying stories to both analysts and psychoanalytical clinics and issues of collective overlaying stories. Lastly, the relations between the concept of overlaying stories and the topic of generational psychic transmission are discussed / Esta pesquisa se dedica ao estudo de alguns ditos que inviabilizam o esquecimento, tão necessário à perlaboração.

Design Flow für IP basierte, dynamisch rekonfigurierbare, eingebettete Systeme

Meisel, Andre 22 June 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Volume 8 of scientific series EINGEBETTETE, SELBSTORGANISIERENDE SYSTEME (Embedded Self-Organized Systems) addresses the synthesis of partially dynamically reconfigurable embedded systems. With the ability to configure hardware blocks during run-time, more flexibility can be integrated in embedded systems. At the same time, these systems have better performance than functions implemented in software. Through this flexibility it is possible to use smaller circuits without limiting the functionality. For the integration of reconfiguration into embedded systems, additional design steps are required. Mr. Meisel presents a design methodology for the design flow and primarily concerns the problem of partitioning, placement, and reconfiguration control in dynamically reconfigurable embedded systems. The implemented partitioning of the system is based on the adapted memory management concept of Overlaying. For the placement method the configurations are modeled as Markov chain, in order to minimize the average reconfiguration time. The presented reconfiguration control unit focuses on a resource-saving hardware implementation. The benefits and results of the approach are clearly illustrated with a design sample. The reader can understand the power of developed approach and is motivated to transfer the developed methodology to more use cases.
