Inter-relationship of skin pass, 2D and 3D roughness parameters, stampability and paintability on cold rolled steel sheets for the automotive industry.

Eduardo Nunes 12 December 2013 (has links)
The aim of this research work is to study the inter-relationship, under controlled industrial conditions, among skin pass reductions, surface topography characterized by 2D and 3D roughness parameters, stampability and painted surface finish quality for automotive steel sheet stampings. Different surface textures obtained from cold rolling finishing have been evaluated in terms of paint appearance (rating and spectral curve) and tentatively related to roughness parameters (2D and 3D) obtained from the cold finished sheets. Some relevant tendencies have been established amongst these parameters. The results presented here are in accordance with other recently published research showing that there is a clear relationship between these parameters, and that further detailed studies are needed.

Avaliação ecoDopplercardiográfica da função diastólica do ventrículo esquerdo em indivíduos obesos pré e pós cirurgia bariátrica / EchoDopplercardiographic analysis of left ventricular diastolic function in severe and morbid obesity before and after bariatric surgery

Rogerio Toshiro Passos Okawa 10 March 2006 (has links)
Obesity has been associated with heart failure, and individuals with severe obesity have been recognized to have a form of cardiomiopathy attributed to chronic volume overload, characterized by left ventricular dilation, and eccentric left ventricular hypertrophy. Impairment of cardiac function has been reported, with most studies reporting abnormal diastolic function. The present study was designed to determinate the effect of obesity on left ventricular diastolic function and the impact of weight loss after bariatric surgery on this function. One hundred and four patients scheduled for bariatric surgery were enrolled, 74 women and 30 men. Baseline mean age was 38.8 ± 11.44 years. Eighty- one patients were morbid obese (B.M.I. maior ou igual 40 kg/m²) and 23 were severe obese (B.M.I from 35 to 39.99 kg/m²), with at least two associated co-morbidities. Structural and functional echoDopplercardiographic analysis were performed before and 6 months after the bariatric surgery. We found that obese individuals had higher septal wall thickness, left atrial diameter, left ventricular mass and a higher incidence of diastolic dysfunction before the surgery than after. It was observed that weight loss had an impact on mitral flow velocities, on pulmonary vein flow velocities, and on tissue Doppler imaging, but had no impact on the other diastolic echocardiographic parameters. Weight loss after bariatric surgery had improved cardiac diastolic function. Being hypertensive, diabetic or having another associated co-morbidity was not related to a higher incidence of diastolic dysfunction. The diastolic echoDopplercardiographic parameters should be used in combination for a better diastolic evaluation.

This dissertation aims to analyze interest rate pass-through mechanism from SELIC to retail interest rate in the Brazilian economy in a nonlinear framework. The main review period was from March 2011 to March 2016. The empirical strategy consists in the use of monetary policy approach to interest rate pass-through and use of nonlinear cointegration model NARDL. The main results are that exist evidence of short as well as long-term asymmetry in the interest rate pass-through. We can also conclude that the interest rate pass-through is characterized by the predominance of the more complete pass-through. Finally, when comparing the main period with an earlier period, delimited from January 2000 to December 2012, there was a change in the sign of asymmetry, from negative to positive in the current period.

Three Essays on International Trade and Finance

Uddin, Syed A 08 June 2017 (has links)
This dissertation is composed of three essays at the intersection of international trade and finance. In the first chapter, I measure exchange rate pass-through (ERPT) for value-added exports, where intermediate input requires sharing among countries in a back-and-forth manner for producing a single final product. I derive an estimating equation for ERPT and value-added trade following a partial equilibrium model, which also leads to decomposition of the trade elasticity into the own price effect and the price index effects. From the empirical estimation, I find that ignoring the value-added trade will cause a systematic upward bias in the estimation of ERPT. I also find that there exists substantial heterogeneity in pass-through rates across sectors: sectors with high-integration into global markets functions with a lower rate of exchange in comparison to sectors with less integration. The second essay focuses on a specific market, where I examine the relationship between product attributes and ERPT. This paper estimates the ERPT by using good-level daily data on wholesale prices of imported agricultural products, where the identification is achieved by using daily data on the domestic inflation rate. The results of standard empirical analyses are in line with existing studies that employ lower frequencies of data by showing evidence for incomplete daily ERPT of about 5 percent. The key innovation is achieved when nonlinearities in ERPT are considered, where ERPT is doubled to about 10 percent when daily nominal exchange rate changes are above 0.55 percent, daily frequencies of price change are above 3.12 percent, the storage life of a product is above 10 weeks, and for the non-zero price changes, the ERPT is complete. In the final essay, I focus on the firms’ export pricing strategy: pricing-to-market strategy. To achieve this, I introduce a partial equilibrium model of firm’s pricing strategy, where the market share of a firm plays an important role in the determination of markup. The empirical estimation is that markup ranges from 1.25 to 1.5 across years and 1.25 to 51.23 across firms. I also find that markups come back to their average level within 30 to 60 days of the initial date.

Développement d’un dispositif microfluidique ayant pour objectif l’étude des effets de premiers passages intestinaux et hépatiques / Development of a new microfluidic platform in order to study intestinal and hepatic first pass effects

Bricks, Thibault 17 November 2014 (has links)
The development of reliable and predictive in vitro methods is a real challenge. Indeed, the demand for alternative methods to animal experimentation has been growing in recent years due to the introduction of legislation limiting the use of these models in vivo by ethical considerations. Moreover, this need was amplified by regulations such as the European REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) requiring the safety validation of many substances. However, the conventional in vitro model consisting in a simple cell culture monolayer in Petri dishes does not preserve the initial properties of these cells and does not mimic the conditions of the cellular environment and organs in vivo. The development of alternative in vitro predictive methods is crucial especially to mimic the working of two organs: the intestine and liver. Indeed, these two organs are involved in the process of Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion (ADME) of most xenobiotics ingested. We propose in this thesis to test the feasibility of one of these in vitro alternative methods allowing the association between an intestinal barrier and the dynamic culture of hepatic cells in microsystems in a device called IIDMP (Integrated Dynamic Insert in a Microfluidic Platform). We tested the influence of the flow of culture and possible interactions between intestinal and liver cells on the function and metabolic activity of these two cell types. Then, we demonstrated that : - This device is reliable in terms of global functionality (fluid, robustness ...).- This device did not injury the integrity of the cell line and primary cells.- The use of this device has many advantages when compared with the use of conventional in vitro models, especially with cells line.- The use of this device highlights phenomena of interaction between hepatic and intestinal cells as an increase of the CYP1A2 activity of HepG2 C3A and human primary hepatocytes.

The Exchange Rate Pass-Through at the Zero Lower Bound: The Evidence from the Czech Republic / The Exchange Rate Pass-Through at the Zero Lower Bound: The Evidence from the Czech Republic

Šestořád, Tomáš January 2017 (has links)
The paper examines the hypothesis that the devaluation of the domestic currency leads to the higher exchange rate pass-through at the zero lower bound since the interest rate channel cannot offset effects of the depreciation in that situation. Time-varying vector autoregression with stochastic volatility is used to identify the development of the pass-through. The hypothesis is tested on the Czech dataset because the Czech Republic is considered as the prototypical small open economy with inflation targeting. The assumption of higher pass-through to consumer prices at the zero lower bound is rejected. Obtained results confirm that the deprecation stimulates output growth slightly more when the interest rate is close to zero. Our estimations imply that the exchange rate commitment of the Czech National Bank increased the price level by 0.116 % and contributed to the output growth by 0.781 %.

Renderingspass och linjärt arbetsflöde i färgrymd

Sahlin, Jimmy January 2012 (has links)
The film industry utilizes more and more computer generated visual effects and the visual effects industry and the surrounding community is continuously growing. It unlocks possibilities for the creative director that before was hard to achieve. And as technology advances, it does not only push the limit of the quality and complexity of the visual effects, but also allows ordinary people and amateurs with a tight budget to create stunning visuals as well. The report will cover render passes and the importance of a linear workflow. The report will determine common key material assets a compositor needs from rendering in order to have full control in post-production. Practical examples made with Maya and Nuke will be used. / <p>Validerat; 20120802 (anonymous)</p>

Factors contributing to the low matric pass rate in Mopani District : a case study of secondary schools in Motupa Circuit

Malatji, Moses Mokgwathi January 2019 (has links)
Thesis (M. Ed.) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / The comparatively high failure rate in South African rural and township secondary schools is a matter of great concern. This study set out to establish what factors are contributing to the low matric pass rate in our secondary schools, in order to identify possible solutions. The study provides an overview, informed by a review of local and international research literature, of the educational and social factors that hinder school performance. The two secondary schools in Motupa Circuit selected for this study had underperformed for the previous five years, below the benchmark of a sixty percent pass rate. The study population consisted of school management teams, teachers, school governing bodies and grade 12 repeating learners. The study followed a qualitative approach, with a case study research design in which the inquiry process was based on interviews and observation. The theory of educational productivity was used to discuss the social and emotional influences of classroom management, parental support, and interaction between teachers and learners. Analysis of the data collected led to findings that served as the basis for the recommendation that all stakeholders, from departmental officials downwards to communities and parents, join hands and work together to address and correct all the ills. The findings revealed minimal support from departmental officials and school management teams. Poor management and instructional leadership are seen as some of the ills that affect academic results. The lack of involvement of parents in supporting the schools serves to demotivate teachers in their daily work. The study also revealed that non-completion of the syllabus and the poor monitoring of written work were a bane to our rural schools. Lastly, social life outside the classrooms contributed to derailing our learners? progress. The study recommends that the DBE develop and support SMT?s by enhancing their skills of management and leadership, so as to empower teachers at all levels. Career guidance in grade 9 was a necessary step towards guiding learners on their choice of subjects.

Paštová, Ladislava January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on Czech legislative of public use of forest, landscape and public greenery. Everyone has right to enter the forest and to pass the landscape and public greenery except estates that are excluded from public use. The public use is legal limit of property law. The owner's of estates duty is to tolerate public use, i. e. to allow enter his estates. The owner of forest can allow some activities in forest which are prohibited by law. Forest enclosures are examples of specific use of forest. The entrance in forest enclosure can be restricted. Different legal regime is in protected areas. The entrance in given area can be restricted to tourist trails or completely excluded due to nature conservation. Some activities are allowed only with permission of nature conservation body or based on general measure. The Czech legislative does not have the legal tool in cases of owner hampers users in use of studied subjects of public use.
