Pedagogers förhållningssätt till barnen i förskolan : en fenomenografisk studie

Wilén, Emelie January 2015 (has links)
In this study I have examined teachers’ attitude to children in preschool. I have used the qualitative method focus groups to collect empirical data where the participants discussed freely about two fictitious cases. The cases is of such a nature that they could happen daily in the preschool and that they have no right or wrong answer in how teachers should act, instead there are many different ways to act in the situations. The approach a teacher has to the children proved to be about what kind of view on children they have and how it is influenced by external factors. The result shows that there are many different ways to perceive and relate to children in preschool, in this study I have found seven different categories. In the study I use a phenomenographically way of looking at the phenomenon. In a phenomenographically way of looking at a phenomenon you are interested of the second order perspective. With the second order perspective it means that you look at how the participants perceive the phenomenon.

A Qualitative Exploration of the Use of Contraband Cell Phones in Secured Facilities

Henderson, Margaret E. 01 January 2016 (has links)
Offenders accepting contraband cell phones in secured facilities violate state corrections law, and the possession of these cell phones is a form of risk taking behavior. When offenders continue this risky behavior, it affects their decision making in other domains where they are challenging authorities; and may impact the length of their incarceration. This qualitative phenomenological study examined the lived experience of ex-offenders who had contraband cell phones in secured correctional facilities in order to better understand their reasons for taking risks with contraband cell phones. The theoretical foundation for this study was Trimpop's risk-homeostasis and risk-motivation theories that suggest an individual's behaviors adapt to negotiate between perceived risk and desired risk in order to achieve satisfaction. The research question explored beliefs and perceptions of ex-offenders who chose to accept the risk of using contraband cell phones during their time in secured facilities. Data were collected anonymously through recorded telephone interviews with 8 male adult ex-offenders and analyzed using thematic content analysis. Findings indicated participants felt empowered by possession of cell phones in prison, and it was an acceptable risk to stay connected to family out of concern for loved ones. The study contributes to social change by providing those justice system administrators, and prison managers responsible for prison cell phone policies with more detailed information about the motivations and perspectives of offenders in respect to using contraband cell phones while imprisoned in secured facilities.

An investigation into how elderly persons perceive elder Abuse.

Splinter, Audrey Patricia. January 2009 (has links)

The international concern about human rights, gender equality, domestic violence and the increase in the aging populations has brought elder abuse into the public focus. Elder abuse is a complex, multi-faceted health, social, criminal justice, international public health and human rights issue. The widely divergent and varying definitions is a controversial problem to understanding elder abuse. The elderly have been excluded from national gender-based programs on domestic violence and the abuse of women and children. In South Africa victims of elder abuse are often physically and or cognitively unable to speak for themselves which necessitates that the public be empowered and trained to become advocates for the aged. Lachs &amp / Pillemer ( 2004 : 1265 ) states that &ldquo / the physical and psychological impairement of elder persons could be predisposing factors for elder abuse &ldquo / . Statistical evidence on the incidence and prevalence rates of elder abuse is lacking as elderly persons are reluctant to identify care givers for fear of abandonment, retaliation and being left destitute ( Lachs &amp / Pillemer, 2004 : 1265 ). Despite the Bill of Rights as set out in the South African Constitution and the Older Persons Act, No. 13 of 2006 which was developed to deal with the empowerment and protection of elder persons and promote and maintain their status, rights, safety, security and well being the abuse of elder person continues to occur ( Older Persons Act, No. 13 of 2006 ). This qualitative research study is allied with the phenomenological approach in an attempt to understand elder person&rsquo / s perception, viewpoints and perspectives from their lived experiences and personal lives. Three (3) focus group discussions and eighteen (18) one-on-one interviews were conducted with elder persons living in the suburbs of Cape Town. Data from participants were audio-taped, transcribed verbatim before an inductive analysis lead to the emergence of broad themes and patterns. The main findings of the research study concluded that elderly persons were informed but not empowered about financial, emotional and verbal abuse. The abuse of the elder person in old age homes also featured prominently. The findings of the research study can be used to provide education and empower elder persons and the general public on specific aspects related to elder abuse which are : Financial, Emotional, Verbal and the abuse by staff at old age homes. These findings could be utilized by health and social welfare advocates and organisations who offer community educational and development programs to advocate against elder abuse.

"Jaha, nu har en halv miljon människor varit inne och tittat på fisken" : Journalisters tankar om att anpassa sig efter klick / “Well, a half million people just looked at the fish” : How journalists perceive traffic whoring

Hosshage, Clara, Levin, Sophie January 2014 (has links)
Computational techniques have transformed the journalistic approach. Journalists now have the opportunity to integrate user-statistics from the news website with their work. Singer (2011) argues that journalists seem particularly afraid of items, which they perceive as trivial or otherwise unsavory, will prove popular - potentially creating management pressures to produce more of those stories. She describes this practice as ‘‘traffic whoring’’. This phenomenon could affect journalists democratic function and their public responsibility. Through qualitative interviews we seek to answer the question: how do journalist perceive traffic whoring and how does it affect their journalistic work? Our study reveals that the interviewed journalists don’t consider themselves to be influenced by traffic whoring. On the contrary, their given statements describes the opposite. Partly due to the visibility of user-preferences, but also due to an increasing management demand to generate high numbers and statistics.

Warrior Women: Indigenous Women Share Their Stories of Strength and Agency

Klaws, Diane Frances 19 July 2013 (has links)
Indigenous women who are single parents and who have had involvement with social services such as child welfare or social assistance have had to be strong and courageous to maneuver through these large institutions. Over the course of this research, I examined the concept of strength by asking the question “how do Indigenous women perceive their own strengths". This research is grounded in Indigenous methodologies through the worldview that all things are interconnected, all people and things have a soul, and that we have a physical effect on our surroundings as our surroundings affect us. The focus of my research interest is to gain a better understanding of Indigenous women’s strengths through their own lived knowledge and by contextualizing it within the experiences of oppression that they have had as a result of colonization. I undertake a literature review as well as field research to address my research question. For my field research I ask one simple question with probes to better understand their view of the strengths they possess: “Tell me your life story beginning with your earliest memories”. I use the research methodology of storytelling. Storytelling is another form of narrative methodology. Storytelling is about sharing stories from the past and present. To hear stories from the past is vital to our understanding of who we are as Indigenous people as this is how we learn where we come from and who we are. Storytelling is essential to re-claiming our histories. Data was collected from three Indigenous women who I interviewed twice. Two themes emerged from analyzing the data. One theme was oppressions and within the theme of oppressions emerged: assimilation, loss of traditional gender roles in the family, financial systemic oppression, physical and sexual abuses, and addictions. The second theme was strengths. The themes that emerged within strengths were: women being active and having agency, women as protectors of family and community, reconnecting with Spirit – Soul work, and women as keepers of tradition. Indigenous women’s voices and their experiences must continue to be researched and included in today’s education. / Graduate / 0452 / 0453 / 0740 / dfklaws@gmail.com

Audial Support for Visual Dense Data Display

Erlandsson, Tobias, Hallström, Gustav January 2017 (has links)
This report presents an application developed for evaluating the possible benefits of using audial support in a visualization application. A hypothesis is presented where the idea is that sonification might help users perceive densities in data-sets with large amounts of data points. The application presents a scatterplot and a parallel coordinates plot. To both plots audial support is added where the amplitude of the sound is used for representing the amount of points in different areas of the plots. The method is evaluated through user studies where ability to find maximum points, finding equal densities and appreciation of the sounds is investigated. Quantitative and qualitative results show improvements when finding maximum points in tight clusters both in parallel coordinates and scatter plots. This is a first step when investigating this area of visualization spurring further research.
