Entrepreneurial Success in the Internet Era : A quantitative analysis into the personality of internet entrepreneursSchnitzer, Dennis, Gross, Franz Johann January 2018 (has links)
The personality approach to entrepreneurship has often been criticized and disproved due to inconsistencies in findings and heterogeneity of concepts used to describe entrepreneurs. With the vast amount of data created by individuals on social media day by day, along with technology advancements, one can look into personality more objectively. In this paper, the authors propose a quantitative method to analyse the Big 5 personality traits, values and needs by using IBM Watson to examine tweets from twitter accounts of 99 successful techentrepreneurs and 99 non-entrepreneurs. It is further argued that through statistical methods, tech entrepreneurs show a common set of distinctive characteristics when compared to non-entrepreneurs. Among the results, 9 Big 5 personality traits, 2 needs and 7 values are shown to be statistically different between both sample groups and therefore, tech entrepreneurs tend to evince a certain personality.

La réalisation du type linguoculturel "héros combattant" dans le discours littéraire / The realization of the linguocultural type "hero fighter" in literary discourseOmelichkina, Elena 14 June 2013 (has links)
[...] / The PhD dissertation accomplished under the joint guidance and entitled «The Realization of the Linguocultural Type «HERO FIGHTER» in Literary Discourse» discusses a number of issues relevant to current theoretical linguistics: language and society, language and culture, cognitive and axiological studies. Linguocultural studies is a relatively new branch of linguistics which describes the linguocultural type as a variety of the concept whose content is a typified linguistic personality. The topicality and importance of studying the linguocultural type «hero fighter» is conditioned by the necessity to explore the motivation and behaviour peculiarities of a heroic personality both as a reflection of the national character and the values accepted by a particular linguoculture, and as a model personality who establishes the value guidelines of demeanour for the nation. To better understand the French mentality it seems significant to describe the specific character of symbolization of the hero fighter’s image. Various characteristics of the discussed type and the linguistic means objectifying it in literary discourse serve as the subject of the presented research. The aim of the thesis consists in a complex analysis of discourse realization of the linguocultural type «hero fighter». The sources for the language material are the texts of five literary works of the 20th... [...]

An affective personality for an embodied conversational agentXiao, He January 2006 (has links)
Curtin Universitys Embodied Conversational Agents (ECA) combine an MPEG-4 compliant Facial Animation Engine (FAE), a Text To Emotional Speech Synthesiser (TTES), and a multi-modal Dialogue Manager (DM), that accesses a Knowledge Base (KB) and outputs Virtual Human Markup Language (VHML) text which drives the TTES and FAE. A user enters a question and an animated ECA responds with a believable and affective voice and actions. However, this response to the user is normally marked up in VHML by the KB developer to produce the required facial gestures and emotional display. A real person does not react by fixed rules but on personality, beliefs, previous experiences, and training. This thesis details the design, implementation and pilot study evaluation of an Affective Personality Model for an ECA. The thesis discusses the Email Agent system that informs a user when they have email. The system, built in Curtins ECA environment, has personality traits of Friendliness, Extraversion and Neuroticism. A small group of participants evaluated the Email Agent system to determine the effectiveness of the implemented personality system. An analysis of the qualitative and quantitative results from questionnaires is presented.

Attractiveness and Personality: Long- and Short-Term Relationships / Attraktivitet och Personlighet: Lång- och Kortvariga RelationerJabczynska, Marta January 2023 (has links)
When looking for a future partner, both attractiveness and personality play a part. The purpose of this study was to expand previous findings and investigate the difference between face and body choice and the ratings of body parts importance depending on if a person is considering a long- or short-term relationship. The similarity between self and an ideal partner’s extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness personality traits was also investigated. An additional question researched associations between the choice of body part for women and men and the two types of relationship (short- and long-term). The method was an online survey in two versions: one which asked questions about participant considering a long- and the other short- term relationship. Seventy-seven university students took a part and were randomly assigned to one of the two surveys. After exclusion of three participants, 38 participants were included in the long-term group (18 women and 20 men, mean age 22.66) and 36 in the short-term survey (17 women and 19 men, mean age 21.86). The results revealed that although face was more frequently chosen than body overall there was no significant association between choice of body part and relationship type. This association was not significant either for males or females when gender was analyzed separately. In addition, individuals rated face higher than body in both the long- and short-term relationship groups, and the ratings of face and body did not differ between the two groups. For the long-term relationships, positive and significant correlations between self and ideal partner personality were found for the three traits (agreeableness, extraversion, and conscientiousness), suggesting a similarity between a person and their ideal partner’s personality for these factors. For the short-term the traits agreeableness and conscientiousness were positive and significantly correlated between self and ideal personality, while extraversion was positive, but it did not reach statistical significance. The traits that survived correction for multiple comparisons in this study were long- and short-term agreeableness and long-term extraversion. In sum, the choice of face or body did not depend on the relationship considered (long- or short- term partner). The personality traits between self and ideal partner were similar and significant besides short-term extraversion.

“I should think what politics he has are just a little bit left of center”:An analysis of James Bond’s personal ideologyAlshamani, Afrem January 2020 (has links)
Ian Fleming’s debut novel Casino Royale (2015) introduces the iconic character James Bond. The savvy British spy who must save the world from Soviet villain is a cultural icon the world over. Yet not much is known of his personal political leanings. Fleming once claimed that James Bond’s politics lies just left of center. In this essay I analyze where James Bond lies on the left-right political scale by using Cichoka & Dhont’s (2018) “Big-five personality model”.Research has been made about the contextual, historical and political settings of the Bond novels such as Jeremy Black’s (2001) “The politics of James Bond: from Fleming's novels to the big screen” which serves as a complement to this research. Black’s (2001)claims suggest that Britain struggled for dominance after The Second World War as they were financially in ruin and although Britain lost some of its colonies, they still had many territories under their control. However, with the rising power of the Soviet Union, the nationalistic feeling in Britain grew as their reputation as a powerful empire needed to be upheld. Therefore, a need for a strong British symbol grew, which also acted as a reason for why Fleming created James Bond. The essay concludes that James Bond represents a specific part of Great Britain. The analysis has shown James Bond is a product of his time by symbolizing the longing for the return of the great British empire. This is supported by the fact of him scoring low on categories such as Agreeableness and Openness combined with the fact that he harbors anti-Communist beliefs. The analysis show that he acts in a manner that would highlight the colonial days of Britain where their strength had not yet diminished as opposed to the times after the Second World War. As such, the actions of James Bond, together with his explicit views suggest that he lies slightly more towards the right on the political scale and thus, disputesthe claim of Ian Fleming.

Prosociální rysy u pracovníků pomáhajících profesí / The Pro-social Traits of Workers in Helping ProfessionsFENDRICHOVÁ, Bohdana January 2009 (has links)
In the thesis on the pro-social traits of workers in helping (assistance-providing) professions I dedicate myself to pro-social behavior, empathy and the basic characteristics of personality issuing from the five-factor personality model {--} The Big Five. Most professionals agree that pro-social behavior and empathy belong among the basic characteristics that assistance-providing professionals should have. An important role is also the personality of the care provider. The listed constructs and connections among them however remain the home environment of empirical research and thereby represent the phenomena regarding which there exist few verified findings. The goal of the paper rests in fining the level of empathy and personal dispositions in accordance with the Big Five model that could influence pro-social behavior in selected groups of assistance-giving professionals. The factors in question are neuroticism, extroversion, and openness to experience, graciousness and conscientiousness. Data collection took place with the help of two psychodiagnostic questionnaires. The IRI questionnaire measures level of empathy and the NEO-FFI questionnaire was used for diagnosing the five personality dimensions. The study was quantitative. The monitored set included respondents from three assistance-giving professions {--} nurses, members of the Czech Republic Fire Rescue Corps, and elementary-school teachers. The results confirmed the hypothesis that care providing workers show higher levels of empathy in comparison to the population average, and the hypothesis that these professionals show a higher level of personality traits that, in an interpersonal context, display positive orientation towards others, that is that they are more extroverted and gracious in comparison with the population average, was refuted. These results make it possible to consider that the relationship between the basic personality dimensions and pro-social tendencies may be mediated by the level of empathy with regard to other psychological constructs and the results of social learning. Conclusions cannot be generalized, due to a relatively small sample group. For this purpose it would be interesting to carry out a professional study, which would exceed, in its scope and possibilities, the usual requirements of a thesis paper.
