The graduation thesis "Trends in mobile phones development" is focusing principally on detailed analysis of mobile phone market on a global scale. The aim of this thesis is to elaborate comprehensive analysis of mobile phone market oriented on phones with operating systems (smartphones). The analysis is drawn primarily from the perspective of the key players in the market and comparison of these manufactures. After the descriptive part, where is introduced market as a whole, market segmentation by volume and value, this section focuses on segmentation of the global market by key players. This descriptive part is completed by market segmentation according to the amount of mobile phones sold by key players. Second analysis is segmented by operating system. Following parts of the thesis is more practical. This part of the thesis is analyzing the companies, which are selling smartphones. In this part I started by describing a brief overview about what the market is, what is focusing on and what their advantages and pitfalls are. My focus is analyzing the market via Porter's analysis and SWOT analysis of individual manufactures. Finally, I analyze the financial indicators from year 2007 to present. In conclusion I come to recommendations what manufactures should and should not to do. Chapter with warnings is described by the products on the market, which failed in recent years. At very end I come to the evaluation and recommendations, which theoretically should bring some positive progress to companies. The main contribution of this thesis is to provide comprehensive, detailed analysis of the market of mobile phones and smartphones manufactures on a global scale. One of the benefits is the collection of information, data and analysis describing the current state of the market, but also recommendations practices, to which I reached via progression of the this work. Thanks to unique appreciation of the global mobile phone market, their indicators and strategic information, it is necessary to say that this thesis can be very valuable material for some readers, who want to get overview, or seek accurate information about certain manufacture.

Constelação fônica e redes neurais artificiais: aplicabilidade na análise computacional da produção da fala / The phonic constellation and artificial neural network: computational analysis of speech production\'s aplicabilityJoão Carlos Almeida Prado 23 May 2007 (has links)
Currently, many diferent techniques are developing for the analysis identification and recognition of speech. The most efficient are shown mathematically complicated, based on analysis statistical of data, that actually makes systems very slow, creating the nessecity for a great amount of data for samples. The aim of this work is to present the possibility of the use of Paraconsistent Artificial Neural Network Structures, in the learnig and recognition of speech signals, independent of statistical analysis, or the number of samples. Starting from a pilot study, the need of a deep study of the Formants of Phones was identified. With the Formants of Phones, a system capable to recognize sounds produced in any language, through conbinations of the production of sounds and simultaneous emission of a group of Formants was created. A possible solution for the identification of Formants of Phones proposed in this work is the creation of Phonic Constellation concept, witch uses the recognition of combinations of identified mathematical characteristcs in the resoant signal of speech. As a form of recognizing these Constellation, this work present the Paraconsistent Artificial Neural Network, efficient in the recognition of patterns for proximity and with capacity to process contractory and paracomplet signals. To develop this solution a Computer Program (System of Analysis of the Production of Speech - SIAPF) capable to process the necessary calculations of a speech signal, generating its Phonic Constelattion and its respective Paraconsistent Artificial Neural Network was created. The subject signal can be studied in an interpretative way using the Paraconsistent Artificial Neural Network with a minimal accumulation of data and statistical calculations compared to traditional tools. The SIAPF is another new tool for analysis of speech production, creating new ways for quantitative and standard measures of Formants of Speech.

Vida em conexão: celulares, usuários e mercado na construção do novo social / Connected life: mobile phones, users and market in the construction of the new socialClaudia D\'Ipolitto de Oliveira Sciré 15 August 2014 (has links)
This thesis focuses on one representative element of the current digital culture, which has become present in all social life in its different spheres the mobile phone. Our aim is to describe and analyze some of the overlapping phenomena in the construction of this connectivity chain to which mobile phones and we, as users, belong. To this end, the effort undertaken was to understand how these artifacts are inserted and comprise a broad socio-technical arrangement in which discourses, knowledge, practices, relationships, circumstances and events flow, involving the market, the producers, the technological innovations on one side and the consumers, and their various daily use practices and life habits on the other. We try to show how this whole network does not escape to the axes of the market, by contrast, it embraces and makes them grow and how the mobile phones are important elements of this process because they made the lives of its users move through the networks flows, changing, by this way, the relationships that involve the contact with the other, the ways of being in the world, the control practices and the regimes of subjectivity. The main contribution of this study is thus to show that one is facing new vectors of power that directly affect the management of each other\'s lives, the time use forms, the constitution of affects, contributing also to give new dimensions to processes of value creation, which are increasingly tied to consumption occasions. In short, to understand how new social issues, come into play, from the time that this artifacts become ubiquitous in social practices and how these are updated in terms of governmentality and social control is the primary task of this work

Mobile phone based remote monitoring systemLiu, Danyi January 2008 (has links)
This thesis investigates embedded databases and graphical interfaces for the MicroBaseJ project. The project aim is the development of an integrated database and GUI user interface for a typical 3G, or 2.5G, mobile phone with Java MIDP2 capability. This includes methods for data acquisition, mobile data and information communication, data management, and remote user interface. Support of phone delivered informatics will require integrated server and networking infrastructure research and development to support effective and timely delivery of data for incorporation in mobile device-based informatics applications. A key research and development (R&D) challenge is to support effective and timely delivery of data for incorporation in mobile device-based informatics applications. Another important aspect of the project is determining how to develop efficient graphics for the small mobile screen. The research investigates and analyses the architecture of a mobile monitoring system. The project developed a generic solution that can be implemented in a number of commercial sectors, such as horticulture, building management and pollution/water management. The developed concept is tested using data relevant to the horticultural area of application. The system also addresses the main issues related to mobile monitoring, including real-time response, data integrity, solution cost, graphical presentation, and persistent storage capabilities of modern mobile devices. Four embedded databases based on J2ME have been investigated. Two of the four have been evaluated and analysed. The Insert function, Sequence Search, and Random Search of Perst List and RMS (Record Management System) databases have been tested. The size of the processed data was limited to 20,000 records when using the wireless toolkit simulator, and 11,000 records when using a mobile phone. Perst Lite reflects good performance and has out-performed RMS in all tests. User interface software such as J2ME Polish for mobile phones has been investigated. Custom J2ME class for graphical interface is developed. This provides the graphical presentation of the data collected from the sensors; including temperature, wind speed, wind direction, moisture, and leaf wetness. The graphical interface, bar charts, and line charts with trace ball for collected data have been designed and implemented. The embedded database performance and project performance have been investigated and analysed. The performances of Perst Lite and RMS are evaluated in terms of the insert, sequence search, and random search functions based on simulation and real devices. The record numbers vary from 1,000 to 20,000. The project performance contains data receiving and storage, and data presentation and configuration. The performance of data storage and configuration can be negated due to the running mode and the response time. Thus, data presenting performance is the key focus in this project. This performance was divided into the categories of initial, data search, data selection, and charting. The initial performance includes the initialisation of the project parameters, and the reaching of the welcome interface. Data search performance refers to the retrieval of the specified data from the embedded database, measured on 48 data points, which only can be presented on the mobile screen from the retrieved data. These four performance types are measured in thousands of record numbers, varying from 1,000 to 18,000 record numbers, with the retrieved data range varying from 1 day to 30 days.

CyborGlogger: A Computational Framework for Real-time CyborGloggingLo, Raymond Chun Hing 27 July 2010 (has links)
CyborGlogs are lifelong log files of personal experiences that are captured without conscious thought or effort. By creating cyborglogs on a continuous basis, we can enable various novel applications where the lifelong records are used as memory aids or for personal safety. This thesis presents the development of a mobile application that provides the tools to instantly capture, archive, recall, and share our personal experiences on widely available cameraphones. To achieve this goal, a client-server computational framework is designed and implemented to support real-time interaction among the users. Three fully functional prototypes supporting three major mobile platforms (J2ME, Symbian, and iPhone) are presented to show the feasibility and flexibility of this framework. Finally, this thesis shows an early prototype which demonstrates the idea of mediated reality on cameraphones using various integrated sensors. This prototype explores the possibilities of developing truly intelligent wearable applications on mobile devices in the future.

Myspeedtest: active and passive measurements of cellular data networksMuckaden, Sachit 09 April 2013 (has links)
As the number and diversity of applications available to mobile users increases, there is an increasing need for developers, network service providers, and users to understand how users perceive the network performance of these applications. MySpeedTest is a measurement tool that actively probes the network to determine not only TCP throughput and round trip time, but also the proximity to popular content providers, IP packet delay variation, and loss. It also records other metadata that could affect user experience, such as signal strength, service provider, connection type, battery state, device type, manufacturer, time of day, and location. The tool also takes passive measurements of the applications installed on the device and the network usage of these applications. My SpeedTest is available on the Google Play Store and currently has 1300+ active users.
This thesis presents the design and implementation of MySpeedTest as well as effect of metrics like latency and IP packet delay variation on performance.
