Perspective Taking and Self Disclosure

Allen, Bruce W. (Bruce Wayne), 1958- 05 1900 (has links)
The effects of taking a third person role on self disclosure, self sympatheticness and several nonverbal parameters of task involvement were examined in a psychotherapy analogue study. Subjects were classified as high or low in ego strength using previously established norms for college students. In the third person role subjects were instructed to describe themselves from the perspective of an "intimate and sympathetic best friend." An encouragement to talk format was used to facilitate self description from the first person. Support was not found for the hypotheses that altering the perspective used in self description would increase self disclosure and that high ego strength subjects would be better able to use a perspective taking intervention. Theoretical and methodological issues are discussed. Recommendations for future research are made.

A Critical Evaluation of Two-Piano Music Available in American Publication

Bridenthal, Dorothy 08 1900 (has links)
Th study of two-piano music was prompted by an active interest in that field and a recognized need for a knowledge of its literature on the part of the writer, who, for the past five years, has devoted most of her time to two-piano work. After careful investigation it becomes apparent that no other study similar to this has yet been made, and it is hoped that it may be helpful to others with interests in common. Much remains to be done and further study would prove profitable. More information might be gained from interviews with prominent duo-pianists, as well as from examination of foreign catalogues and of recital programs given in Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, and similar music centers.

An Evaluation of Comparative Piano Technique Since 1902

Cobb, Nettie Alice 08 1900 (has links)
There are no figures available, but if a survey were made, possibly more people would be found engaged in the study and teaching of piano than any other musical instrument. It is much to be desired for both teachers and students to have an intimate acquaintance with the principles underlying the structure of modern piano technique. The situation as it generally exists contrasts sharply with the ideal situation. The ignorance of this important phase of piano study causes an enormous annual waste of time and money on the part of students. With an adequate technical knowledge, teachers, instead of allowing their pupils to practice blindly and mechanically, would be able to explain the reason for each movement they ask them to perform. Many failures in both classes occur because of the lack of understanding of what piano playing requires.

Teacher Training: An Examination of Skill Acquisition, Generalization, and Increases in Child Appropriate Behavior

Sawyer, Rebecca Jo Moore 08 1900 (has links)
The effects of a training package (modeling, role-playing, and feedback) were evaluated using a multiple baseline across skill areas. Two trainers taught two teachers to use basic intervention skills that included components of both discrete trial teaching (DTT) and the Natural Language Paradigm (NLP). Training occurred in the context of one task. Generalization was assessed with two untrained tasks. Teachers' responses in the target task increased following training, as did appropriate responding from the child. Some generalization of the teaching skills occurred. Teachers were instructed to generalize acquired skills as a possible method to promote generalization. The results of these findings and implications for training of ABA providers are discussed.

La chance dans l’œuvre de Georges Bataille / Chance in the works of Georges Bataille

Lagana, Fabrice 27 January 2012 (has links)
The notion of chance is similar to fortuity, but it is a critical concept, taking into accountthe death of God, thought by Nietzsche. It reverses values and representations. Fleeting, elusive, it refutes all the logic of labour and of action. It is accomplished in the moment. It leadsto a new ontology and a new morality, that of playing. Chance is an opportunity and a risk. Itappears as a demand, that of exceeding the limits of the given, and as a hazard, that of gettinglost in the night of ignorance. It takes shape in the 1930s in a context of war more and morethreatening. It is often expressed in the philosophy of Nietzsche that Bataille uses as a weaponagainst the Hegelian system. It appears as the residue or waste of only rational doctrines andpresents itself as a sensitive experience, rooted in the life of Bataille. It is a movement of excessleading the thinking process to excess. However, in the modern world, the extreme states havingno purpose (such as the atonement and salvation) and direct action having replaced sacrifice, art alone collects them. Bataille therefore transposes his research in an encounteredfragmentary writing that contravenes all standards of literature. He combines the forms and typesto showcase diversity, intensity and anxiety which characterise this experience. He invents atype of writing that never stops challenging itself to highlight the lack of certainty in a world whereall is unstable, threatened with extinction.

Kocourek, Petr January 2015 (has links)
Title: Intermission of the game on the grounds of breaking the rules in young-junior boys categories. Objectives: This diploma thesis aims to find out intervals of the game and intervals of the intermission of the game in young-junior basketball and youth boys basketball matches, and to compare the detected data. The other aim is to discover the reasons leading to the intermission of the game of each catogory during these matches. Methods: As a research method, the method of observation of the video recordings of youth basketball and young-junior basketball matches from the website tvcom.cz was chosen. Using the basic statistic and arithmetic methods, the measured data were processed statistically and, consequently, graphically also. Results: It was discovered that children playing the young-junior basketball have the shortest average interval of the continuous game in all studied categories and that this interval is shorter than the interval of the average duration of the intermission of the game during young-junior basketball matches. The most frequent reason for the intermission of the game in all categories is a personal foul of the player and a ball, or a player with a ball out of bonds. Keywords: playing time, youth, sports education, basketball, rules
