The primary prevention of violence in secondary school pupils in the West of ScotlandGavine, Anna J. January 2014 (has links)
Violence is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality amongst young people. Public health approaches are now being increasingly utilised to reduce the risk of young peoples' involvement in violence. One such programme is Medics Against Violence (MAV), which aims to reduce pro-violent attitudes and enhance empathy in secondary school pupils. This thesis aims to investigate whether this approach can be effective in tackling youth violence in secondary school pupils. A mixed-methods approach was adopted to conduct both an outcome and process evaluation of MAV. Four schools took part in the outcome evaluation, which examined whether there was a change in attitudes towards violence or empathy in pupils receiving the MAV programme. The process evaluation consisted of focus groups with school pupils, and open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with MAV volunteers. There was a small but significant reduction in pro-violent attitudes immediately post-intervention. However, this was not sustained at three months and there was no significant increase in empathy scores. Pupils generally demonstrated anti-violent attitudes, although were more likely to support the use of reactive violence. The pupils appeared to enjoy and generally engage well with the programme. In particular, the use of real footage, interviews with those affected by violence and the Glasgow setting provided a sense of realism for the pupils. Moreover, pupils valued the opportunity to discuss the issues raised by MAV with the volunteers. Volunteers felt engagement was occasionally an issue in the most affluent areas. However, some volunteers adapted the programme to focus on victimisation prevention in the most affluent schools. Further development is therefore needed in terms of establishing who the programme is aimed at (i.e. potential victims or perpetrators), focusing on reactive violence and increasing the sustainability of its effects.

Lietuvos bendrojo lavinimo mokyklos bendrosiose programose pažymima, kad visas bendrasis ugdymas yra orientuotas į vaiką, jaunuolį, jaunuolę, jų poreikius ir gebėjimus. Todėl šiandieninės mokyklos tikslas — padėti asmeniui maksimaliai išskleisti individualias kūrybos galias ir gebėjimus, tenkinant jo įgimtas reikmes: savirealizacijos — savęs įprasminimo, laisvės, meilės, pagarbos, kūrybos, tvarkos ir darnos poreikius. Tačiau šiuolaikinėje visuomenėje mokyklos autoritetas mažėja, moksleivių lankomumas prastėja, o motyvacija mokytis taip pat turi neigiamą tendenciją. Therefore, the goal of modern school is to help a person to develop the maximum power of individual creativity and capacity to meet the needs of his or her innate needs such as self - expression, freedom, love, respect, creativity, trim and harmony. However, in modern society, the standing of schools is decreasing, school attendance is falling and the learning motivation has a negative tendency as well. Právní povědomí u dětí základních škol / Legal awareness among pupils of basic schoolsTVAROHOVÁ, Zdeňka January 2009 (has links)
Legal awareness is very low in general, not only among children but also among adults. However, increased attention should be paid to legal awareness among young people. This applies particularly to pupils leaving the basic schools. Most of them finish the mandatory school attendance at the age of fifteen. The moment is associated with the issue of awareness of their criminal liability and the related, at least elementary, awareness of some acts. I believe that this topic is generally very much neglected and this thesis should contribute to its better understanding. It should be noted that a newpenal code will come into effect on 1 January 2010. Some changes contained in the code will be described in my thesis. The objective of my thesis was to map the level of legal awareness among pupils attending the ninth grade of basic schools in the fields of penal, civil and labor laws. The thesis also sought to map the primary prevention implemented in this area at basic schools. I have used a qualitative approach in my thesis and to collect the data I have employed individual semi-standardized interviews. Based on materials I had studied, the interviews included questions concerning some basic knowledge of penal, labor and civil law, as well as questions dealing with drug issues and questions about the completed primary prevention at schools. The respondents were ninth-graders living in my neighborhood. The total number of approached respondents was 10 (5 girls and 5 boys). The qualitative research has shown that young people do not have sufficient legal awareness of basic issues in labor, civil and, last but not least, penal law. My research has also confirmed that the completed primary prevention fails to perform its function. In my opinion is it desirable to develop an integral overview of this issue.

This theses focuses on how the criminology prevention in the frame of primary school curriculum in Czech republic is organized and what importance do the primary school teachers in Prague attache to it. In the practical part, the theses addresses criminology knowledge, with special focus on bullying at school, Labour and Social Welfare Departement's stratégy on criminology prevention, it's implementation in school subject such as Citizenship Education and Human and it's World (throught comparative analyses of textbooks content), and criminology prevention in workshops of Policy and providers of primary prevention programs (throught comparative analyses of program contents). It also samples some uccessfull criminology prevention programs abroad. In theoretical part, the theses focuses on evaluation qvantitative datas of an exploring coil, which investigated what importance do the primary school teachers in Prague attache to criminology prevention in primary school curicullum and how they evaluate it's organization. As conclusion , some recommendations are mentioned for criminology prevention enhancement within primary school curriculum framework and proposals for further research within issue.

Thesis deals with the problem of the older school age boys dental injuries in České Budějovice region. The injury means: ?sudden damage of the health by effect of external factors which exceed adaptation options of the human body?. In the sphere of dental injuries the children is the most jeopardized group of population. The most often reason for the children injuries is their imperfect stability. In case of older children and young people there are injuries mostly caused by sport. Teoretical part of my thesis is focused on definition of older school age as well as on anatomy and teeth physiology. The part of thesis also is the enumeration of dental injuries and its treatment. I also mention prosthetic dentistry and the influence of accidents on individual physical and mental health. At the end of teoretical part there is mentioned process of the injured examination, posttraumatic dental hygiene and patient nutrition after teeth accident. Research part finds with the help of questionnaire survey the kinds of dental accidents, circumstances of injuries formation and the influence of accidents on individual physical and mental health in specific age category. The questionnaire survey was evaluated and processed in grafical part of thesis. The part of thesis also is health and educational material which helps to rise the quality of dental hygiene and also contributes to the prevention of dental accidents formation of second degree students at primary schools.

The target of primary prevention is to discourage from the risk behaviour or to postpone the risky behaviour into the later age. For this reason, mechanisms of the primary prevention were laid down, where the schools and school facilities were determined as main executor. The main factor participating in creating the attitudes and education of children is doubtlessly the family, however, it often fails in the preventive acting connected to risky behaviour. Each elementary school is obliged to elaborate the so-called {\clq}minimum preventive program``, based on the metodical instruction of the Ministry of Schools, Youth and Sports. I am trying to find out this thesis, to which extent the measures taken by the school environment are effective. The target of the thesis was to Map primary prevention activities in elementary schools on the basis of their timeliness and the prevention of representation selected to perform the evaluation of risk-taking behaviour. I believe that the target of the thesis was achieved.
