The privatization's effect on the perceived service quality

Research question How does the customers´ perceived service quality change when an industry becomes privatized? Purpose The purpose of our study is to examine how the customers´ perceived service quality change after a privatization of an industry. We have investigated if the pharmaceutical industry´s state-owned and privately-owned enterprises deliver different levels of perceived service quality. Methodology This study is of a quantitative approach where empirical data is collected through a questionnaire which is handed out to 120 respondents. Findings There are no statistically proven difference in perceived service quality between state-owned and privately-owned enterprises. Conclusion                         State-owned and privately-owned enterprises are similar in sense of delivering customer service quality in a deregulated and competitive marketplace. Implications Our study contributes to the understanding of privatization. Privatization is a well-debated measure, and citizens of almost any society shares different opinions about its effect on our well-being, and the result from this study gives an understanding how privatization actually affects the society in sense of the service quality provided.

Privatization has become a central feature of the economic policies of nations in the developed and developing world. Eritrea has also embarked on a privatisation program for the state-owned enterprises. It privatised 39 manufacturing enterprises from 1997-2001 in the hope that the enterprises might be restructured into more efficient, profitable, competent and value creating private enterprises. This thesis assessed the impact of privatisation on the operating efficiency, profitability, employment, wages and tax payment of the Eritrean newly privatised manufacturing enterprises.

Therefore, the study explores these initiatives, which has been debatable in South Africa under the dominant understanding of &lsquo / progress&rsquo / or &lsquo / development&rsquo / .</p> <p><br /> The Objective of the study is to lay the basis for the examination and evaluation of policy option with regard to privatisation and deregulation of services in South Africa and to engage South Africa effectively in global policy debates and adjust in global trends and negotiations within the region (SADC) and other international countries. It examines global challenges and opportunities / threats for South Africa as a developing country in the emerging global order.</p> <p><br /> This study also attempts to provide answers to several questions concerning privatisation and deregulation of public services in South Africa. To the poor, is deregulation and privatisation of state assets threatening to become the new apartheid, which is an instrument of exclusion, not just from a better life but even from the very basic services? An exploratory study of industrial customers' perceptions of service quality of a privatized water company in Malaysia /

Malaysia embarked on a privatization program in 1983. The overall aim was to relieve the financial and administrative burden of the government and to improve the efficiency and productivity of government enterprises. One of the sectors privatized was the water supply in Penang with the major objective of ensuring that the privatized water company, known as Penang Water Supply Corporation (PWSC), provides better quality services to its customers. The PWSC must attempt to satisfy its customers who must perceive that their needs are being met and to capture the voices of the customers in order to provide improved services. / This study assessed the suitability of the SERVQUAL instrument for measuring service quality in Malaysian water supply sector. It attemped to evaluate the quality of services provided by PWSC through the use of the SERVQUAL instrument to measure industrial customers' expectations and perceptions of the quality of service. SERVQUAL measures five service dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy. Expectations, perceptions and service quality scores were assessed and their significance interpreted. The research was conducted via a questionnaire survey. The results indicated that SERVQUAL to be an appropriate instrument to measure water supply service in Malaysia and three factors appear as dimensions of service quality. Analysis of the results revealed that industrial customers rated the service quality provided by PWSC as above average. Higher expectation than perception scores were recorded on all features of service quality indicating that customers expected a better quality of service from PWSC. An Extended Gaps Model of Service Quality was used to identify the factors contributing the service quality shortfalls. An investigation into strategies affecting the long-term performance of Chinese chemical companies

China has been changing from a centrally planned to a market economy. Its journey has not been a smooth one and is not likely to be easy in the years to come. One of its industry sectors, the chemical industry, which represents approximately 4.6% of its national GDP, is facing challenges in the changing market dynamics. The Chinese government has applied administrative actions rather than simply relying on the market to address these challenges. Fragmentation has been reduced by closing down inefficient chemical plants; merging various companies to form groups. It has also attempted to privatise government owned enterprises by corporatisation and marketisation. Corporatisation of government-owned enterprise refers to alteration of their ownership to create joint stock companies. Marketisation refers to listing those privatised enterprises on the stock market. The objective of this research was to find out whether taking these administrative actions is the best strategy for the Chinese government-owned chemical industry rather than making it more effective by building up state owned chemical enterprises? core competencies and core capabilities.
