The Study on the Employees¡¦ Cognition of Organizational Change and Job Satisfaction in Voice of Han

Chang, Li-der 24 July 2007 (has links)
Abstract This study focuses on the employees¡¦ cognition of organizational change and job satisfaction at the Voice of Han (V.O.H), a radio broadcasting system belonging to the National Defense Ministry of R.O.C..The V.O.H is the only radio broadcasting system that can broadcast on air by 4-net (FM, AM, China Net 1 & Net 2) at the same time, among the radio broadcasting systems here in Taiwan. Belonging to the National Defense Ministry, it has experienced ¡§Streamlining Plans¡¨ and ¡§Progressive Plans¡¨, policies that are advocated for streamlining the human resources in the military. Those policies must drastically impact the development of the V.O.H one way or another. On the other hand, the cognitive attitudes and job-satisfaction degree of employees at the V.O.H play vital roles in its future development. This study adopts all the employees of the V.O.H as the population, through case study approach, analyzing the impacts that the V.O.H is facing and the responding strategy through those causes of the National Defense White Paper 2006, and the V.O.H.¡¦s adjustment of the organizational structure, to name a few. Sampling from all the employees, this study adopts several statistic methods to analyze their cognitive attitudes towards organizational change and job satisfaction, exploring the connections between variables of ¡§Cognition on Organizational Change¡¨ and ¡§Job Satisfaction¡¨. The findings of this study suggest as follows: 1. It appears obvious diversity on the ¡§Cognition on Organizational Change¡¨ and ¡§Tendency to Quit¡¨ between military and civilian employees; the former predict more risks and impacts, while the latter more tendency to quit. As for ¡§Job Satisfaction¡¨, there¡¦s little diversity. 2. ¡§Cognition on Organizational Change¡¨ obviously influences ¡§Job Satisfaction¡¨ a lot, with 17.3% out of those correspondents. In the Cognition on Organizational Change, the dimension ¡§role burden¡¨ influences job satisfaction most. 3. ¡§Job Satisfaction¡¨ obviously influences ¡§Tendency to Quit¡¨ a lot, with 37.1% out of those correspondents. In the Job Satisfaction, the dimensions such as ¡§job itself¡¨ and ¡§promotion possibility¡¨ clearly predict the tendency to quit. After the organizational change, the employees¡¦ dissatisfaction with promotion possibility is highly connected with their tendency to quit. 4. ¡§Tendency to quit¡¨ obviously influences ¡§Cognition on Organizational Change¡¨ a lot, with 13.9% out of those correspondents, which means the more the employees are dissatisfied with the organizational change, the more they bear the tendency to quit. This study explores, based on the theory, the interactions among theoretical variables, reinforcing or re-verifying the applicability and value of academic theory. By analyzing those questionnaires responded by the employees, the managerial level not only can realize what the employees, military or civilian, need or think, but also can map out strategies and action plans for the future revolution. Furthermore, through this study, the policy-makers might find out the different reactions between military and civilian employees who encounter such organizational change, which would make the policy-makers realize what they should focus on in facilitating those employees in different attributes. This study does suggest and contribute constructive directions in managing the state-run media.

Analysis Of Blast Loading Effect On Regular Steel Building Structures

Tahmilci, Fatih 01 December 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Concern about effect of explosives effect on engineering structures evolved after the damage of Second World War. Beginning from 90&rsquo / s with the event of bombing Alfred P. Murrah Federal building located in Oklahoma City this concern deepened and with the attack to World Trade Center twin towers on September 11, 2001 it is peaked. Recent design codes mainly focus on earthquake resistant design and strengthening of the structures. These code design methodologies may sometimes satisfy current blast resistant design philosophy, but in general code compliant designs may not provide recognizable resistance to blast effect. Therefore designer should carry out earthquake resistant design with the blast resistant design knowledge in mind in order to be able to select the most suitable framing scheme that provide both earthquake and blast resistance. This is only possible if designer deeply understands and interprets the blast phenomenon. In this study, it is intended to introduce blast phenomenon, basic terminology, past studies, blast loading on structures, blast structure interaction, analysis methodologies for blast effect and analysis for blast induced progressive and disproportionate collapse. Final focus is made on a case study that is carried out to determine whether a regular steel structures already designed according to Turkish Earthquake Code 2007 requirements satisfy blast, thus progressive collapse resistance requirements or not.

Progressive Obsolescence And Product Non-use In Electrical Kitchen Appliances

Orsel Imir, Isik 01 April 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this study is to find out the reasons of progressive obsolescence and product non-use in small kitchen appliances and to examine the relation between the consumer&rsquo / s pre-purchase expectations and post-purchase experiences with these products to understand the deficiencies of kitchen appliances which cause consumer to stop using them. The reasons of progressive obsolescence and product non-use might be informative for further studies on this subject. Throughout the study, the general issues of need, want, purchase motivations, pre-purchase consumer expectations and post-purchase experience, satisfaction/dissatisfaction were discussed through the literature survey. Progressive obsolescence and product non-use were analysed both through literature survey and a field study which was conducted as in-depth-interviews among kitchen appliance users. It has been seen that progressive obsolescence and product non-use is mostly affected by usability of products, by the changing needs and changing life style and by the emerging of new technologies.

Verbaspekt i engelska språket : En undersökning av verbaspekt i engelska skönlitterära texter från tre århundraden / Verb Aspect in the English Language : A study of Three English Texts Regarding Verb Aspect

Drätting Ahlm, Ewa January 2002 (has links)
A study of three extracts from three English novels from three centuries regarding verb aspect, i.e. the progressive form. The tendency is that the progressive form has increased from 1813 to 1913 and further to 2001.</p>

Religious healing in the progressive era : literary responses to Christian Science

Squires, Laura Ashley 10 July 2012 (has links)
This project examines the impact of Christian Science on American culture through the interventions of three major literary figures—Mark Twain, Willa Cather, and Theodore Dreiser—in the major debates that surrounded the movement. I argue that both Christian Science itself and the backlash against it were responses to the shifting conditions of modern life, that Christian Science and public discourse on it laid bare distinctly modern tensions and anxieties about changes in U.S. culture. Recent scholarship has pointed to the durability of the secularization thesis in the study of American literature despite the easily discernible impact of religion on American culture more broadly throughout the history of the U.S. This critical perspective has been particularly difficult to dismantle in the study of post-Civil War American literature. While it is true that Protestant Christianity lost some of its dominance in the late nineteenth century, this period also saw the rise of various influential heterodox religious groups, including Christian Science. This dissertation will make sense of why and how Christian Science captured the imaginations of so many Americans, including some of the greatest storytellers of the day. Christian Science was not the story of how a group of deluded fanatics attempted to turn back the tide of modernity. Instead, Christian Science was a product of modernity that provided a unique and, in its particular context, scientifically plausible response to the problem of human suffering. Furthermore, the controversies that surrounded Christian Science crystallized anxieties about the fate of individual autonomy in the modern U.S., the exercise of therapeutic and religious freedom, the concentration of individual wealth and power among a privileged few, the extension of American power abroad, and sexuality. Each chapter will examine a narrative or set of narratives that demonstrate how the Christian Science debates heightened and spoke to those concerns. / text

Experimental testing of a steel gravity frame with a composite floor under interior column loss

Hull, Lindsay A. 21 November 2013 (has links)
Progressive collapse research aims to characterize and quantify the behavior of different structural systems in events of extreme local damage caused by bombings to improve the performance of targeted structures and to protect occupants. The focus of the research program described herein is the performance of steel gravity frame structures with composite floor systems in column loss scenarios. The goal of the project is to contribute to the development of rational design guidelines for progressive collapse resistance and to assess any potential weaknesses in current design standards. This thesis presents the results of a series of tests performed on a steel frame structure with simple framing connections and a composite floor slab under interior column loss. The specimen was designed and constructed in accordance with typical design practices and was subjected to increasing uniform floor loads after static removal of the central column. No significant structural damage was observed up to a load equivalent to the ultimate gravity design load. Further testing was performed after the deliberate reduction of the capacity of the steel framing connections, ultimately resulting in total collapse of the specimen. / text

The Realism of Hans Morgenthau

Keaney, Brian A 01 June 2006 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the life and career of Hans J. Morgenthau, commonly accepted as the father of the realist paradigm within the field of international relations. It does so by offering a dynamic revisionist account of the nature of Morgenthau's classical realism and suggests how the approach discussed might have wider application in the field of international relations. Traditional perspectives of Morgenthau suggest that in the course of his career, he changed from holding what would generally be labeled a conservative political viewpoint to a liberal political viewpoint. This thesis takes a different starting point. It does so by suggesting that constancy, not change, was the hallmark of Morgenthau's intellectual development. Thus, what appeared to be a shift from right to left, was in fact merely the different applications of a consistent reading of international relations. Central to this interpretation of Morgenthau's work is the second innovative argument of this thesis: that Morgenthau's realism contained within it the potential for both conservative (as traditionally defined) and progressive (as traditionally defined) applications. Acknowledging that realism as conservatism is already an accepted understanding within the field of international relations, this thesis focuses on drawing out the progressive potential of Morgenthau's realism, by proving that what appeared in Morgenthau's later career to be an intellectual shift in fact stemmed from the progressivism inherent in the actual existing realism of Morgenthau's early career applied to new situations met in his later career. Based on this analysis of what has been accomplished within the framework of classical realism by Morgenthau, it is the challenge of this thesis to invite contemporary realist thinkers to do the same. In short, the thesis invites contemporary theorists to explore, recover and reclaim the liberatory and progressive potential of classical realism. In so doing, the thes is suggests the potential for two new research programs. First, reclaiming the liberatory potential of Morgenthau's approach and use of realism provides for the creation of a new understanding of contemporary realism which can transcend both the essentially sterile internal debates between classical and neo-realism and those between classical realism, neo-realism and neo-classical realism. Second, foregrounding the liberatory possibilities of classical realism offers a fruitful approach for the recreation of common ground between realism and other more 'politically progressive' paradigms in contemporary international relations theory such as peace research or constructivism. It is the final hope for this thesis that it might, by building bridges within and between different fields, lay the foundations of a possible path for the reintegration of the whole discipline of international relations.
