Understanding Required Capabilities of Leading Users in Hospital Information System Development Project

Chiao, Hsiu 26 August 2011 (has links)
In order to response to the demands resulted from environmental changes, hospital launches various information system development projects. Different from most information system development projects in the past, which are leaded by developers, the leaders of those projects are physicians or administrators. Unfortunately, the observed project failure rates are high. Since those projects are highly related to the operational performance of hospital, there is a needed to investigate into this issue in depth. Among those factors contribute to high failure rates, one very important cause is that many project leaders are lacking of adequate capabilities. This study adopted case study approach. After interview the leaders, members, and developers of three projects, critical capabilities that project leader should possess are identified. I concluded that those non-IT background project leaders should possess at least five basic capabilities, including knowledge, project management ability, interpersonal skills, ability to distribute resources, and flexible capacity. I also identified their priority based on project characteristics. The results can serve as reference for project leader selection in hospital and basis for future studies in this area.

To include sustainability in project management : a way of work or personal values?

Larsson, Aron January 2019 (has links)
Individuals and organisations are encouraged to reduce their climate impact every day.  Companies are adapting and using sustainability policies as one way to demonstrate their work towards a sustainable future. The construction industry is one of the industries that affects the environment to a large degree. Within that industry, together with several others, project work is a common practice. Project managers have therefore an important role in making and guiding the projects to be more sustainable. Therefore, this thesis aimed to investigate how project managers in a consulting company experience that they can influence the sustainability work in their projects. A qualitative study was conducted. Background information and theories about corporate sustainability and competence needed to implement sustainability were performed through a literature review. Interviews were conducted with project managers from the consulting company WSP Management in Stockholm Sweden. The study shows that the project managers are aware about their opportunity to influence the  sustainability work in their projects. However, the amount is strongly affected by the priority of the client and if resources are available. To improve and move towards a more sustainable approach the study shows that sustainability must be demanded from the permanent organization or the client, and not only be included because the project manager itself values it.

Necessidades de treinamento de líderes de projeto em empresa de pesquisa, desenvolvimento e inovação / Training Needs of Project Leaders in Research, Development and Innovation Institution

Azevedo, Mônica Aun de 15 January 2018 (has links)
Ao final, limitações do estudo são discutidas / The management of research, development and innovation projects has been a concern of organizations due to the need to reconcile strategic objectives and resources, as well as to ensure the emphasis in the development of priority projects, in order to assure the growing demands of society. The literature on project management presents, in a recurrent way, besides the importance of the figure of the leader in the performance of projects, as one of the main conditioning agents for the achievement of results, the constant need to improve the capacity of these actors to act. The improvement of the qualification of professionals, field of program management of training, has in the training needs analysis - TNA stage the essential process for the identification and prioritization of efforts and investments made in the training of workers. Despite its importance, the TNA is still underdeveloped in organizations and lacks empirical research. In this sense, this research aimed to investigate the skills gaps of project leaders with the purpose of knowing the prediction of the characteristic variables of the clientele (sociodemographic and functional characteristics) about the need for training, in the context of a research, development and innovation institution. It sought to contribute, with elements in the field of research project management, with TNA advancing in conducting the research process to evaluate the training needs of project leaders, to provide subsidies to the target institution in order to plann and develop effectives training programes, aimed at the target clientele of the research. Five specific objectives were outlined: build the Project Leadership Competency tool (CompLP); check evidence of validity of the CompLP instrument; identify the skills gaps of Embrapa project leaders; know the profile of the clientele; identify the variables that influence the acquisition of CHAs. Based on the identification of competencies characteristic of the project leader, and the validation phases of the instrument, a questionnaire with 25 items was obtained. After obtaining good psychometric indexes of instrument validation, the research was applied at Embrapa, and had a sample of 300 individuals. The general priority-training index (GPI) presented low values (less than 13.8) for the 25 competences that make up the instrument. Thus, according to the self-perception of the sample, there are no higher-order training needs, however with a high divergence of opinion among the respondents. From the analysis of the prediction model with the eight competencies identified for development (IPG - 10.3 to 10.86), it was concluded that the area of performance of the project leaders in the institution explains the need for training in skills in general, and the variables that most significantly contribute to the prediction model (R2 = 7%) are age, position, working time, and time of experience as a project leader. The overall objective and the specific objectives of the study were achieved. At the end, study issues are discussed

Kask, Sara, Brala, Martin January 2015 (has links)
The meaning of conducting projects has changed over time. A long time ago it could be a matter of building pyramids, today a project may consist of implementing a new IT-system. In recent decades, the project work form has become the most common approach for execution of organizational activities, both in the industry sector and public administration. Approximately 90 % of all projects conducted today are being run under circumstances where several projects are carried out in parallel, which has given rise to so-called multi-project environments. Previous research highlights a number of negative consequences that arise in multi-project environments, where the most prominent characteristics are time constraints including tight deadlines, fragmentation as a single project manager is in charge of several projects simultaneously, and resource conflicts as resources within the same organization are shared between several project managers and line units.   The purpose of our study is to apply Amabile and Kramer's (2011) concept of inner work life, to explore how project managers are affected from working in a multi-project environment. Our research question is therefore: what are the impacts on project managers inner work life from working in a multi-project environment? Amabile and Kramer's (2011) concept contains a total of twelve different categories that affect an individual's inner work life. To answer the question, we used a qualitative approach. Four project managers working in multi-project environments in the private sector were interviewed. In order to analyze their responses we used a thematic analysis approach. The results of the study indicates that project managers are affected both negatively and positively from working in multi-project environments, where negative impact is most prevalent from an overall perspective.

Tlumočení v česko-německé divadelní síti Čojč / Interpreting in Czech-German theater network Čojč

Kasalová, Kristina January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this master's thesis is to provide a comprehensive picture of interpreting in the network Čojč. Cojc gGmbH is a non-profit Czech-German theatre network, which organizes theatre projects for young people from Czech Republic and Bavaria. Many of the participants need interpretation to communicate with each other. Interpreting at those projects is not provided by a professional interpreter, but by the project leaders, who usually don't have theoretical training in interpreting. This master's thesis aims in research of how these project leaders should interpret and to what extent their interpreting ensures successful course of the communication. Another aim of this master's thesis is to research the quality of interpreting in Čojč from the participants' and project leaders' perspective (or more precisely their satisfaction with the interpreting in Čojč). In this master's thesis we use the methods of semi-structured interview and questionnaire for the research of the interpreting in this network.
