This dissertation is focused on the study on the pilgrimage to the Divina Pastora, a municipality of the State of Sergipe. The issue concerns the efforts made by the pilgrims, to make this journey, experiencing the hardships of the journey of nine miles. The main objective was to conduct an anthropological study of religious ritual, from the perspective of relations between the pilgrim and divinity, which is consolidated from the payment of pledges in thanks to the graces obtained, which in most cases are related to miracle cures . We began the work by making a historical approach, analyzing the context in which the pilgrimage was established in the State of Sergipe and how the tradition is recreated year after year. The emphasis on pilgrimages to literature and historical documents, including the books falls church city Divina Pastora and the Metropolitan Curia of Aracaju. Through ethnographic data, we identify the universe of pilgrimage on the pilgrim's point of view, analyzing the socio-cultural profile and their reasons for pilgrimage.

Michelle Ferreira Maia 18 December 2008 (has links)
Um estudo possibilitado pelas entrevistas, pelos ex-votos, pelas marcaÃÃes de intenÃÃes de missas colhidos / Memories of One: the construction of memories about the holiness of John the stones is a survey that aims to study the forms, gestures, narratives, short, popular practices that relate to the life, death and devotion to John the Stones a thief who nearly died on April 04, 1978 in SÃo Benedito, CearÃ. This is not a biography. Looking across the life and death of John does not follow a chronological order of events: from life to death and from death to life. Busco, the practices of devotion that which gives meaning to the past of John I investigate in the present, which alludes to the past, (re) meaning it. To understand the cult of John the Stones had to have a close relationship with the respondents to death, dead, dreams, promises and devotions with the cemetery, with the visible and invisible world. A study made possible by the interviews, the ex-votos, the markings of intent masses collected

Campaign Promises: A Complicated Way of Producing Perlocutionary Effects

January 2019 (has links)
abstract: The current landscape of political speech is ripe for deep philosophical analysis yet has not been thoroughly investigated through the lens of speech-act theory. In this space, I believe I contribute something novel to the area, namely a notion of campaign promises that differs from standard promises that enables a new way of interpreting this kind of speech. Over the course of this paper, it is argued that Campaign Promises (CP) are non-trivially and philosophically distinct from the notion of Standard Promises (SP). There are many philosophical distinctions to draw, including moral, political and logical, but my focus is largely in philosophy of language. I engage the work of Searle, Austin and Wittgenstein among others to investigate what I take to be the following important differences from CP and SP: First, that CP and SP differ in the “best interest” condition, of the condition that a promise must be in the best interest of the promisee in order for that promise to obtain, which in turn, produces the effect of threatening those who do not want the promise to come about. Secondly, that CP serve to reinforce world views in a way that is non-trivially different from SP. To do this, I employ Wittgensteinian language game theory to bridge the gap between traditional Searlian speech act theory to more modern McGowan-style oppressive language models. Through this process I develop and defend this alternative way of understanding and evaluating CP and political speech. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Philosophy 2019

PARTIES AT THE WATER’S EDGE: CANADA’S POLITICAL PARTIES AND THE FOREIGN POLICY DOMAIN

Preece, Cassandra January 2019 (has links)
Foreign policy is the nexus between domestic and international political systems. Studies in Canada have so far produced mixed findings related to the role of political parties in foreign policy. Drawing from campaign promise, issue ownership and foreign policy decision-making literature, this dissertation investigates whether there is a foreign policy domain consistently dominated by a particular political party in the Canadian context. Part I uses data from the Comparative Manifesto Project (CMP) combined with manually coded foreign policy promises to determine the content and scope of foreign policy-related election promises in Canada. Part II follows the well-established pledge approach to measure promise fulfilment of foreign policy promises of Canadian governing parties following elections. This dissertation not only seeks to determine whether parties matter in the context of foreign policy, but also whether one party consistently “owns” the foreign policy domain or specific foreign policy issues. Findings from this research will fill an existing gap in the literature related to policy-specific promise fulfillment in Canada and will bridge existing theoretical assumptions related to political party behaviour and foreign policy decision-making. / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)

Literary and theological analysis of this sense of perícope demonstrates very patriarchal reports. The goal of this dissertation is to do this analysis, especially demonstrating his "literary movement" or, as it is appropriate to say, his "literary beauty". This research takes the theological and ethi-cal considerations that relates with the other patriarchal traditions of Genesis. It is the study of Genesis 18.1 15 for his literary position in all the patriarchal ac-counts and especially with regard to Abraham. It is in half his life narrated in the text. Until that time, exposed in the text, he just waited for the fulfillment of promises, but nothing actu-ally happened. The end of life approaches with the accumulation of years. When least expec-ted the old promises, behold, the Lord, your God, appears and all is happening. The text is a moment of great expressiveness and narrative raises ethical perspective, using a sign lan-guage. The fundamental hypothesis is the centrality of literary text and its gestural expressi-veness that value the character Abraham, the other cited characters and their actions. The fundamental methodological theoretical aspect was used to read the text careful-ly, synchronous to its movement, always from the grammatical forms and guessing what the fundamental hypothesis suggested its expressiveness. She was always outstanding. The literary analysis of this short text leads to all the patriarchal narratives, especially Abraham cycle as part of the written traditions of Israel identity founders. The gestures of the same characters, often not valued in a theological analysis, are the expression of the beauty of this text. The three mysterious figures visiting the elderly Patriarch leave the divine mark of fulfilment of promises and assurance of joy that the birth of Isaac symbolizes / O texto de Gênesis 18,1 15 é importante dentro do ciclo de Abraão.
