Polyarush, Viktoriya 01 September 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the role of Anglicisms in the language of Ukrainian young adults, the motives of English borrowings&rsquo / usage, and the attitude of young people towards the presence of Anglicisms in the Ukrainian language. The study examined the language of young adults, newspapers and magazines, and popular TV programmes. Note fields, audio-recordings, and questionnaire were chosen for investigation of borrowings integrated in the Ukrainian language. The study revealed a constant usage of Anglicisms by young adults in Ukraine, despite their place of residence and occupation, focusing on the main areas where borrowings are used. It was suggested that English borrowings have become a significant part of the language used by young people in Ukraine.

The influence of English L2 on the spoken communication of Grade 10 Afrikaans L1 pupils in a dual-medium high school.

Muller, C. January 2016 (has links)
M. Tech. Language Practice / This case study investigated the Afrikaans communication of Grade 10 Afrikaans home language pupils from a dual-medium Free State high school. The participants on whom this study focusses were therefore constantly exposed to an alteration between English and Afrikaans, and the researcher believed their communication would be filled with English code-switched words. It was speculated that these pupils would code-switch often due to the fact that the communication in the school constantly moved between Afrikaans and English. The researcher set out to determine (1) in what way and how often the English code-switching used by these pupils affected the spoken meaning of their communication. She also wanted to know (2) which type of English code-switched words were used most frequently and (3) if these words occurred mostly on intra-sentential or extra-sentential level. Another aim of the study was to (4) establish what aspects of these pupils' spoken Afrikaans were affected by English code-switching and how many times they were affected.

Le Corbusier: o cristal e a concha / Le Corbusier: the crystal and the shell

Pita, Maria Eliza de Castro 18 January 2013 (has links)
Le Corbusier\'s production since the thirties passes through great transformation when compared with the period of the \"white houses\". There is no agreement between historians in their analysis of the period and even those who try to analyse it through the optics of the corbusian rationalism have difficulties. This work offers alternative interpretations linking Le Corbusier\'s architectural and urban production with his artistic production.

Le visuel chez Gilbert Sorrentino : figures et couleurs du purisme / The visual in Gilbert Sorrentino's writing : figures and colours of purism

Nicolini, Juliette 12 November 2011 (has links)
Gilbert Sorrentino is often presented as an emblematic postmodernist writer. This study focuses on colour and the visual in five works in particular : The Sky Changes, Steelwork, Splendide-Hôtel, Aberration of Starlight and Crystal Vision. Far from the egalitarianism of postmodernism, modernist principles go along with a moralizing and exclusive viewpoint. Intermediate values of grey imply uncertainty which refer to the amorphous and to evil. The burden of a religious education is felt in the opposition between dark values, which refer to sin, and flashing light which breaks into the mournful grey, giving life and form to space. The radicalism of Sorrentino’s aesthetic position shows in his taste for contrasts in colour, namely in Splendide-Hôtel. Black and white set up a sharp contrast, as in Franz Kline’s paintings. The elegiac stand of the author is asserted by the opposition between red and grey. A taste for synthesis leads to a simplification of shapes and colours which evokes the Minimal Art movement. A propensity for immaterial and immutable abstraction is noticed. Sorrentino expresses colour by using generic terms, thus taking account of the inability of language to encompass the real. This respect of the language idiosyncrasy matches Clement Greenberg’s purism. Crystal Vision is based on two ill-assorted sources (A. E. Waite’s Rider deck and Steelwork) which produces a tension between the high symbolism of the cards and the sordid reality of Steelwork. By setting a dichotomy between the secular visible and the sacred invisible, Sorrentino goes towards the platonic and medieval mind. The ironic transposition of images proceeds from a defeated idealism.

Ericson, Nina January 2015 (has links)
