The Universal Sports Database

Chang, Lawrence January 2008 (has links)
Thesis advisor: David R. Martin / With vast amounts of data in the world, organization becomes a challenge. The success of data driven web services (IMDb, YouTube, Google Maps, Wikipedia, et cetera) all hinge on their ability to present information in an intuitive manner with user friendly interfaces. One area that fails to have such a service is sports statistics. With the ubiquitous appeal of sports, having a solution to this problem can be universally beneficial. Many sites exist that have statistics of different sports, but there are limitations to all of them. Since there is very little continuity among all sports, statistics are represented disparately. There are several problems with this approach. Any time there needs to be a change to the informational structure, the entire database and interface need to change. In addition, there can never be a single interface if there are different schemas for different sports, leading to a user unfriendly interface. My system uses a unique schema that is capable of representing statistics from any sport, no matter how unique. Adding new statistics to a sport to reflect rule changes or adding a new sport altogether are seamless. In addition, the web interface is structured by Rails, which changes automatically with the schema.Challenges included developing a universal sports schema and testing it sufficiently enough to prove its generality. Finding and extracting the data to populate the database also presented difficulties. / Thesis (BS) — Boston College, 2008. / Submitted to: Boston College. VALUES IN PLACE: INTERSECTING VALUES IN RAILS TO TRAILS LANDSCAPES

Brownell, Lisa Rainey 01 January 2011 (has links)
This dissertation is a study of the values and meanings people attach to places and why exploring those values is important in trails and historic preservation planning. From a foundation in critical humanistic geography and values based preservation literatures, the dissertation examines three rails to trails projects as case studies. Primary research questions include: how does a landscape become valued, devalued, and/or revalued through time? In what ways do different values of different people or groups intersect in rails to trails landscapes and how do they shape the landscape? How do historic values intersect with economic, social, political, and other values as these relate to landscape preservation? A subset of questions deals with the interactions between trails, historic preservation, and geography. What common ground do these three areas already share and what is the potential for further connections between and through them? The project contributes to the geographical tradition of interpreting ordinary landscapes but also works towards bringing together the common ground of three disparate endeavors: cultural geography, historic preservation, and trails planning around the theme of “values in place.”

Βικτωράτος, Ιωσήφ 25 January 2010 (has links)
The following work has made an extensive reference to the kinds of programming languages and then extends a description of the frameworks currently used widely. Then devotes considerable attention to the framework ruby on rails and describes in detail the possibilities offered by means of developing some applications. Being more specific, we implemented and evaluated a site with forum and shopping cart, a blog, a wiki page, and a site for creation profile of its users.

Utveckling av en webbapplikation för avtalshantering med ramverket Ruby on Rails / Development of a web application for contract management using the framework Ruby on Rails

Palm Myllylä, Johannes, Skarman, Frans, Thorarensen, Christian, Vigren, Malcolm, Bränning, Jonathan, Thuresson, Rasmus, Lindberg, Adam January 2017 (has links)
