APP DEVELOPMENT, DATA COLLECTION AND MACHINE LEARNING IN DETERMINING MEDICINE DOSAGE FOR PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Olsson, Daniel, Eriksson, Jonathan, Soltani, Sedigheh January 2022 (has links)
Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects approximately 0.2% of the population having motor disabilities as its most prominent feature. A symptom of the disease is lowered dopamine levels which often is countered by oral intake of a medication called Levodopa. However, for the dopamine levels to be steady, a patient would need to regularly take the medication throughout the day. As the disease and the treatment progresses, the correct medicine prescription becomes more difficult. This project is the continuation of a previous project done by students at Uppsala University, in which a Machine Learning model with the help of Support Vector Machine could classify data collected from a handheld accelerometer as the user being either under or overdosed for Parkinson’s Disease. The goal of this project was to achieve a similar result by developing a mobile app. The mobile app was supposed to allow the user to follow a path displayed on the screen with their finger, meanwhile the app would collect touch data in the form of coordinates and timestamp these. The app development proved to be successful, and the collected data was sent to a database hosted on the Google cloud service Firebase for storage. From there, the data could be downloaded and imported to MATLAB where an SVM model was set up and trained. Once trained using data collected from healthy individuals as well as patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease, the SVM could accurately differentiate between Parkinson’s disease data and healthy data with a success rate of 91.7%.

Maintainability Evaluation of Single Page Application Frameworks : Angular2 vs. React

Mousavi, Seyedamirhossein January 2017 (has links)
Web applications are subject to intense market forces, fast delivery and rapid requirement and code change. These are the factors that make maintainability a significant concern in any and especially web application development. In this report we develop a functional equivalent prototype from an existing Angular app, using ReactJs and afterward compare their maintainability as defined by ISO/IEC 25010. The maintainability comparison is made by calculating maintainability index for each of the applications using Plato analysis tool. The results do not show a significant difference in the calculated value of the final products. Source code analysis shows that changes in data flow need more modification in the Angular app, but with the objective oriented approach provided by Angular, we can have smaller chunks of code and thus higher maintainability per file and respectively a better average value. We conclude that regarding the lack of research and models in this area, MI is a consistent measurement model and Plato is a suitable tool for analysis. Though maintainability is highly bounded to the implementation, functionalities which are provided by the Angular framework as a bundle is more appropriate for large enterprises and complex products where React works better for smaller products.

Cross-platform development of smartphone applications : An evaluation of React Native

Furuskog, Martin, Wemyss, Stuart January 2016 (has links)
During the last ten years the market for smartphones has grown drastically. Because of the current state of the market with different operating systems many smartphone applications need to be developed for several platforms. With this thesis, the goal was ultimately to contribute to the understanding of cross-platform development as a way of developing smartphone applications. React Native has been evaluated as a framework with which development is done for both Android and iOS using the same code. To study React Native as a framework, a smartphone application for Android and iOS was developed at an Uppsala based IT-company with expertise in web services, smartphone applications, and online gaming. Furthermore, performance tests and user tests were conducted in which React Native was compared to native applications and applications developed using Xamarin (similar cross-platform development framework owned by Microsoft). It was evident that using the same code for both Android and iOS was time saving. However, the performance tests results showed that applications developed with React Native did not perform as well as the native and Xamarin versions. Leading to the conclusion that choice of framework when developing cross-platform applications need to take into consideration performance, development time, and programming language preference.

Isomorphic Web Applications : Depends on how you react

Mathiasson, Eric January 2015 (has links)
Websites are today one of the most common ways for humans to interact with each other. Evolving from just static pages for companies to highly dynamic social medias, websites are built upon complex techniques and architectures to meet end-user demands. One of the latest techniques are single page applicationswhich makes use of the web browsers capabililities to execute application code. One drawback is that search engines cannot visit the site, nor can script-disabled web browsers. For a single page application to function on all devices a new concept called isomorphism needs to be considered. The aim of this thesis have been to analyze, design and implement an isomorphic web application using modern technologies. The practical work have been applied using an agile project method, while theoretical works are based on previous knowledge and an internet based research. The implementation went through several iterations of trial and error but was finally completed with Facebook's React framework together with a modified version of the Flux architecture. The resulting application was implemented in both Ember and the proposed isomorphic solution. Benchmarks of both implementations were carried out and compared with each other to see how the thesis' isomorphic solution performed. The results shows an performance increase in the isomorphic solution. In conclusion the full application was not implemented due to time limits, but the most performance critical parts were. While only one framework was compared, it would be of interest to compare with more frameworks to give a better performance overview.
