The Unbundling and Rebundling of the Faculty Role in E-Learning Community College Courses

Smith, Vernon Clay January 2008 (has links)
The unbundling of the faculty role occurs when e-learning course tasks normally performed by a single faculty member--such as course design, development, delivery, grading, interaction with students, course improvement, and advisement--are segmented or unbundled so that they can be performed by other personnel or with technologies. Using a qualitative methods approach, this study examines the unbundling and restructuring of the faculty professional role in large enrollment e-learning courses. This study was conducted at three community colleges in a large, urban community college district, and presents three models of e-learning course production that affect the unbundling of the faculty role: craft, collegial, and virtual assembly line. This research also examines how e-learning faculty members seek to rebundle tasks associated with their professional role and identity, and the tasks they perceive as meeting student needs and demand. This study contributes to professional and economic theories concerning faculty members in the e-learning context, and advances theories associated with academic labor, managed professionals, Academic Capitalism, and the globalization of the community college.

The grocery store of the future : A study on change and how the store should be future-proofed.

Härenstam, August, Ahl, Oscar, Lönn, Jakob January 2022 (has links)
Grocery stores have changed and developed over the years. Today the industry is completelydifferent than 80 years ago and a big part of this is due to digitalization. The empiricalmaterial for this study has been collected from ICA Maxi Stormarknad Växjö as well as theICA Group. The industry has undergone many changes and are now on their way towardspotentially the largest one in its history. With the help of Richard Normann's book Reframingbusiness, when the map changes the landscape, ICA Maxi Stormarknad Växjö's work withchange can be analyzed in a qualitative study from a constructionist point of view. We haveconducted interviews with employees within the management of ICA Maxi StormarknadVäxjö based on new technology, changed consumer behavior and how ICA MaxiStormarknad Växjö works with different activities. This is to be able to describe how thelocal management in a store which belongs to one of Sweden’s biggest grocery storecompanies works with change. With this thesis we aim to examine how previous changeshave contributed to where the ICA Maxi Stormarknad Växjö is today and together with thecollected theoretical knowledge look into the future and analyze potential ways forward. Thethesis will not present a conclusion to the problems that we have found, but an externalperspective of changes locally and with a connection to ICA centrally and our gatheredtheoretical chapter.
