Diagnosis of a duodenal-colonic cyst with inflammatory content derived of a metastatic gallbladder adenocarcinoma: a case report

Vargas-García, Elsa K., García-Saravia, José L., Fernández-Aristi, Augusto R., Cáceres- Bedoya, María A. 01 March 2022 (has links)
The existence of a cystic mass which walls originated from a metastatic gallbladder adenocarcinoma is infrequent. We present the case of 68-year-old male that present to the emergency department with abdominal distention, hyporexia and jaundice. Upon exploratory laparotomy, a duodeno-colonic cyst with walls formed by metastatic cells derived from a Gallbladder Adenocarcinoma. Metastatic disease from a gallbladder adenocarcinoma to transverse colon and duodenum formed adherences between both organs, leading to the formation of cystic mass. Cancer cells have multiple adaptation mechanisms in order to survive harsh environments.

How Well Do Headache Patients Remember? a Comparison of Self-Report Measures of Headache Frequency and Severity in Patients With Migraine

McKenzie, Jeff A., Cutrer, F. M. 01 May 2009 (has links)
Objective. - To compare patient recall of migraine headache frequency and severity over 4 weeks prior to a return visit as reported in an interval questionnaire vs a daily diary. Background. - Many therapeutic decisions in the management of migraine patients are based on patient recall of response to treatment. As consistent completion of a daily headache diary is problematic, we have assessed the reliability of patient recall in a 1-time questionnaire. Methods. - Headache frequency and average severity (0 to 3-point scale) were reported in an interval questionnaire by 209 patients who had also maintained a daily diary over the same 4-week period. Results. - Headache frequency over the previous 4 weeks as reported in interval questionnaires (14.7) was not different from that documented in diaries (15.1), P =.056. However, reported average headache severity on a 0 to 3 scale as reported in the questionnaire (1.84) was worse than that documented in the diaries (1.63), P <.001. Conclusions. - In the management of individual patients, the daily diary is still preferable when available. Aggregate assessment of headache frequency in groups of patients based on recall of the prior 4 weeks is equally as reliable as a diary. Headache severity reported in questionnaires tends to be greater than that documented in daily diaries and may be less reliable.

Impact of national senior certificate examination diagnostic report on learner performance in mathematics

Chihambakwe, Thabani January 2017 (has links)
A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Education in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Masters in the Department of Educational Psychology and Special Needs Education at the University Of Zululand, 2017 / The study sought to determine whether the use of the National Senior Certificate Examination Diagnostic Report (NSCEDR) in an intervention programme would improve the performance of learners in Mathematics. The study utilised a mixed method approach. An action research that employed a quasi-experiment, one group, pre-test and post-test research design was used. A total of 74 grade twelve learners, 46 girls and 28 boys, were selected and participated in an intervention programme for six weeks. Three NSCEDR documents, from 2014 to 2016, were used to determine the topics that were challenging to learners in Mathematics, as well as the errors and misconceptions made by learners in examinations. The topics that were challenging were identified together with their frequency in the three documents. The marks of the learners before and after the intervention programme were compared and analysed. The Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) and Excel were used to analyse the research data. The results of the study revealed that the use of the NSCEDR findings in the intervention programme improved the performance of the learners, while the impact was indifferent for boys and girls, and as well as for low performers and high performers. Trigonometry, Euclidean Geometry and Counting Principle were some of the most challenging topics in Grade 12 Mathematics that were identified from the NSCEDR. Based on these results, it was recommended that the NSCEDR should be readily available to all teachers to use, as their use in the classroom improved the performance of the learners.
