This thesis aims to investigate the change in the representations of the cultural identity by analyzing the allegorical role played by the road in the Brazilian road movies released between 1960 and 2015. The hypothesis is that this group of films brings about, in a given historical moment, representations of collective identity (national identity), but changing later to represent a fragmented identity. As a result of this effort one might find the existence of what is now being called the two phases of the Brazilian road movie: the "Physical Journey" (congregating films released between 1960 to 1998) and the "Journey Within" (films from 1998 to 2015). What most distinguishes these two phases are the allegories personified by the road in these road movies, which change at the same time that changes in the cultural identity occur, the latter being confirmed by authors such as Anderson (2008); Bauman (2008, 2001, 1998) and Hall (2005). If the first phase, the road is presented as an allegory of the nation and of the Brazilian people, whereas in the second phase it begins to represent the individual transformation, the subjective odyssey, an existential space of transformation, which is configured as a rite of passage. The thesis is supported, in addition to the theoretical foundations, by the cinematic analysis of six films: Iracema, uma transa amazônica (BODANZKY; SENNA, 1974); Bye bye Brasil (DIEGUES, 1979); Jorge, um brasileiro (THIAGO, 1988); Central do Brasil (SALLES, 1998); Cinemas, aspirinas e urubus (GOMES, 2005) e Dromedário no asfalto (VARGAS, 2014). Thus, this work seeks to show, by watching the representation of some social and cultural characteristics present in the national cinema, the real confluence between the allegorical changes in Brazilian road movies with those in the construction of our own cultural identity.

Analyse économique des préjudices et des indemnisations des accidents de la circulation routière : une approche par la victime / Economic analysis of injuries and compensation of accidents in road traffic : an approach by the victim

Achit, Hamza 22 December 2015 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the economic consequences of road accidents for the injured victims. We study the impacts in terms of health spending and in terms of sick leave. The analyses rely on an original dataset obtained by a specific extraction from the information system of the French Health Insurance. This information system constitutes an almost exhaustive database of victimsof road accidents.Different descriptive and econometric analyses are conducted. First, we use generalized estimating equations models to analyze the determinants of extra health expenses, and survival models for the analysis of the determinants of economic loss related to a sick leave episode. Secondly, we analyze the evolution of these extra expenses and losses over time by means of agroup-based trajectory model. This method also allowed us to establish a typology of injured victims based on the similarity of long-run outcomes. Finally, to inform the public and decision makers on the costs occasioned for the different types of accident victims we evaluate the averagecausal effect of an accident with the exact matching method.

An evaluation of South African road safety promotion strategies with a selected social marketing model

Thebe, Eddie Mogalefi 15 October 2011 (has links)
This study was undertaken to evaluate, within the context of a selected Social Marketing Model, the strategies that South Africa has been using in the past 10 years in promoting Road Safety in the country. The underpinning aim of the study was to determine whether or not these strategies have been adequately addressing the essence of Road Safety Promotion in South Africa in the light of the many changes communities have experienced over the past decade. Another key reason for the quest to evaluate these strategies is the fact that even in spite of their partial implementation, the rate of road accidents in the country continues to increase. Effectively, South Africa is busy losing the Road Safety battle. The study argued that it is vital that South Africa embarks on effective strategies of Road Safety promotion in order to drastically reduce road accidents and mortalities to levels, at least, of between one to nine persons per year. All governmental strategies currently in use for promoting Road Safety in South Africa are more than four years old, and no in-depth study has been done to evaluate their effectiveness and the reasons for failure of those well-planned campaigns coming out of the strategies, where the mortality rates from accidents continue to increase. This study evaluated the strategies and the impact of the campaign messages emanating from them. Qualitative research methodology using group interviews was conducted in three of the nine provinces namely North West, Gauteng, and Free State Province, the presumption being that the three South African provinces, like the rest, contain characteristics that are generally prevalent in the country. The findings of the study revealed that Road Safety officers were neither fully conversant with the strategies for promotion of Road Safety in the country, nor adequately equipped to confidently and effectively manage their obligatory mandate to endorse the Road Safety Promotion programmes. The limited and often absent engagement of communities in the design and implementation of Road Safety Promotion Strategies has not boded well for the country. Among the recommendations made were, adequate orientation and training of Road Safety practitioners in the area of Road Safety Strategies and promotion, which would result in the strengthening of community engagement in Road Safety Promotion Strategies, the need to conduct, at short intervals, the impact analyses of the promotional strategies being used, in order, where necessary, to design fresh promotional messages with impact, using the Social Marketing Framework for Road Safety promotion campaigns. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Communication Management / PhD / Unrestricted

Utformning av landsväg i tätort med hänsyn till oskyddade trafikanters säkerhet : En studie av Storgatan i Robertsfors tätort

Jacobsson, Kajsa January 2017 (has links)
Road with transit traffic in urban areas entails meeting between relatively high-speed vehicle traffic and unprotected road users in a residential environment. In Sweden there are many, small and large urban areas that are crossed by roads in their central parts. These roads can cause traffic at relatively high speed to affect and create problems for the residential environment in the urban area. Roads in urban areas become problematic in relation to safety because traffic is to interact with unprotected road users. With the citizens' movement pattern as a starting point, this study illustrates how the design of the road can be adapted to the citizens to reduce the risk of accidents. The aim of this study was to investigate the unprotected road users' experience and movement patterns in the road environment at Storgatan in the urban area Robertsfors. The focus is on safety for the unprotected road users and to provide suggestions to improve safety. This study had a qualitative design and based on observation of movement's patterns among people using Storgatan as well as eight semi-structured interviews. The result showed that unprotected road users, expressed the need to reduce the speed of vehicles early in the urban area, to clearly visualize and protect unprotected road users and the importance of the road being part of the urban area and not a transit road. It also emerged that vehicle traffic has a prominent role in urban environment and should be questioned, as the urban area should be perceived as a safe and attractive environment for the residents. The interaction between vehicle traffic and unprotected road users is clearly unequal based on the results of this study.

Koncepce reportingu v nákladovém controllingu / The concept of reporting in cost controlling

Vojtek, Michal January 2012 (has links)
This diploma thesis describes a proposal of a new conception of cost controlling reporting in Česká spořitelna for next period. This reporting concept consists of a description of the dimensional model (including a detailed description of dimensions and metrics reporting), the application architecture design and benefits of the new solution. The theoretic part focuses on specification of the basic reporting terms that are further developed in a practical part. Specifically, this section describes and categorizes reporting, including identification of the main groups of users (consumers) reports, identifies the main reporting components - requirements, tools and architecture. The practical part consists of three chapters supporting the achievement of the main targets. The first chapter defines the role of cost controlling, describes the current reporting conception through the model of application architecture. At the end, it summarizes the main limitations and shortcomings of the current reporting concept. The second chapter is fully devoted to the Erste reporting, and evaluates new demands and reporting requirements. The part of chapter is a catalogue of reports and reporting road map. It serves as a dashboard that can warn against potential operational risks. The last chapter meets the main goal and introduces a solution of reporting concept of cost controlling. The benefits of work can be especially found in practical application in Česká spořitelna. Currently, the first implementation phase of the Hyperion planning application has been realized. Moreover subject of my thesis can serve as a valuable source of information describing both current and final status of cost reporting.

Evaluation of a new measurement method for tire/road noise

Slama, Jens January 2012 (has links)
Noise is a growing health concern as urban residents increases rapidly and more reports of noise causing sleep disturbances and increasing the risk of cardiovascular health problems are published. Noise has a negative influence on life quality. This life quality deficiency also shows in housing and office pricing in noisy environments. Housing and office prices are often higher in quiet areas than in noisy areas. Therefore noise is both a health issue and has big economic consequences. The biggest contributor to the road traffic noise is the tire/road noise at speeds above 50km/h. Therefore this is an important aspect to monitor and the problem has to be alleviated. In this thesis the client Ramböll has gotten many contracts concerning the state of the roads from governmental institutes. As a part of the evaluation of the roads they want to implement the noise emission as a factor. This gives the government institutions another parameter that helps in the decision of which part of the road network to refurbish first. In the effort to decide what is best way for Ramböll to measure noise a new setup for measuring noise has been developed. The most used ways of measuring tire/road-noise is the close proximity (CPX) -method and the statistical pass-by (SPB) -method. These methods both give accurate results but they have drawbacks. The SPB measurements are time consuming and only give noise levels for a small patch of a road. CPX measurement on the other hand require costly and time consuming development of a measurement trailer. Certifying the trailer and maintenance work of it is expensive. So this report shows a first step in how to build a measurement setup and what aspects were taken into consideration when it was designed. A close proximity measurement setup in the form of a tube with a microphone placed inside it was built and installed underneath the measurement vehicle. The  measurement setup designed and built was named the Tube-CPX measurement setup in this report. The measurements performed with this Tube-CPX measurement setup show promising results. Similarities between CPX measurement setup and the Tube-CPX setup have been found both in the frequency spectrum as well as in the relation with pass-by measurement noise levels. The repeatability of the Tube-CPX measurements is even better than the compared CPX measurements. Although results are promising more work is required before the Tube-CPX setup can be seen in operation at Ramböll. In particular the question which source causes which sound pressure is required to understand the measured levels. And also more controlled pass-by measurements have to be performed to determine the relation of the absolute values measured at the tire/road impact spot to the values that are most interesting, namely the sound pressure levels that the human at the side of the road depicts.

Problematika pozemních komunikací z pohledu práva životního prostředí / Roads from the Perspective of the Environmental Law

Záluská, Isabela January 2021 (has links)
Roads from the Perspective of the Environmental Law Abstract In this Thesis, in light of amendment of the Line Act which severely dampens the concerned authorities' means of protecting the environmental public interests, I present a brief introduction to the environmental protection legislation in relation to roads, road construction and road traffic, showing the state of related present-day legislation and means through which the environmental public interests are protected during the road construction process as of today. To this end, I present a brief description of negative effects of roads on the environment, i. e. environmental fragmentation, land annexation, pollution of land and air, noise and artificial lighting. Next, I am showing an in-depth analysis of means through which the Czech law deals with these negative effects and which means of protection against them it offers. I show the road construction process, means of environmental public interest protection in this process and administrative-legal acts through which the means of protection are applied. Here I mostly focus on the environmental public interests in environmental protection, limiting the environmental fragmentation and protection of land. Next, I present the current state of legislation dealing with the negative aspects of road...
