The Rotunda in Lins, a city of the interior Sao Paulo State, has an incontestable position, through a good part of its history and formation; it appeared as a railway object that had as a principal function the preservation of nationals railway’s wagons and locomotive, we will approach here questions related not only to its history, but we will treat it as a “mirror” of a social context exasperate not only by railways narrative and peculiars, but also by political, social and cultural intrigues that showed themselves so important to question the showing up and propagation of these traps that leave reveal the way which Lins was building itself according to the rhythms imposed not only by “Maria Fumaça”, its whistling and soot, but also by all of those individuals that followed enthused for the singular opportunity of starting a new life in a region that was seen, in its beginning, full of charming and progress and enrich possibilities: the “new Canaã”, as usually could be seen during the twentieth in some local papers. So, in this study we will question ourselves about the Rotunda’s representatite before the analyses of subject that directly exhaled the railway progressive politicals, and also those guys that could be found nearby “railways trails”, and through of them we can see, because of a fragment look, the effective importance that “Noroeste do Brasil” Railway (NOB) has for Lins’ development, showing this railway space as symbol of one of cultural identities that was given, almost practically, to the corrosive power of the time that is imposed by or “forgetfully society”. So, we will work as much with NOB workers’ memories that could assist the construction, the development and Rotunda’s closing in Lins (1938-1958), as those individuals that also had the possibility to look at this monument... Analýza konstrukčních, statických a proporčních kritérií románských a předrománských rotund. / Analysis of structural and proportional criteria of Romanesque and Pre-Romanesque rotundas.

Kříž, Pavel January 2016 (has links)
Topic of this dissertation thesis follows previous dissertations dealing with reconstructions of historical buildings that were successfully defended at Institute of Building Structures, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology. The thesis deals with Romanesque and Pre-Romanesque round churches, called rotundas, that were built between 9th and 13th century in the historical territory of Great Moravia. Churches of similar shape can be also found in surrounding countries, but only scarcely. By the time of origin these rotundas were among the oldest masonry buildings built within borders of contemporary Czech Republic. Later some rotundas were destroyed and are known only thanks to the archaeological findings or written records. Some are still waiting to be discovered. Surviving rotundas are the oldest masonry buildings in Czech Republic, therefore it can be said that they belong to the most valuable historical buildings in the country. Preserved rotundas were often modified or rebuild in some way. Thanks to their age, origins of many of these buildings are shrouded in a mystery, which is one of the reasons why they attract attention of many researchers – archaeologists, historians and art historians. Many questions arise from their research. These questions have interdisciplinary character and finding the answers requires cooperation of specialists in different fields. One of these fields is building engineering. This dissertation thesis deals with proportional and structural analysis of Pre-Romanesque and Romanesque rotundas. For the proportional analysis author focused on verifying of some of the hypotheses of other researchers connected to the Romanesque rotundas. These include hypothesis dealing with use of historical units for the design of rotundas, hypothetical use of proportional canon, or some universal sets of proportional ratios of vertical and horizontal dimensions. The proportional analysis also helped with verification of some hypothe

Seguy, Clara 08 1900 (has links)
Art museums exhibit artworks according to curation methods and the architecture of the building itself. This art-based research thesis questions the medium role of the exhibition space using a double theoretical framework: materialist approach in media studies and museum studies paired with curatorial studies. The numerous specificities of the circular museum convert it into a special case, recurrent and pertinent to analyze the way these specific curves of the museum space act on the curatorial approach of an exhibition and the related experience for the visitor. Threw the media object that the exhibition guide is shaping, the purpose here is to explore the presentation on a rectangular sheet of a circular exhibition space. Three indicative spaces form case studies and define the framework for the creation phase: the Water Lilies Gallery at Musée de L’Orangerie (Paris, 1927), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York, 1959) and the Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection (Paris, 2021). This art-based research thesis experiments with the media dimension of the rotunda space by remediating the exhibition guide in order to transliterate materially the roundness of those places. Motivated by an analogy between circularity and insularity and investing in their representation forms, I design a mediation tool that guides the visitor in his spatial discovery of the rotunda museum and beyond, walks him threw an archipelagic iteration, from a circle museum to another. Each of the three rotunda museums of this pilgrimage offers a fragment of the experience to be collected which, over the visits, will form by assembly the complete and accomplished itinerary of a mediation within places of circular exhibition. Unprecedented navigation in the Rotonda archipelago to compose the Museario rotondo. Through a non-linear approach, as much as in the theoretical aspect as conceptual and methodological ones, I am interested in the interstices of the rotunda, questioning materialities, possibilities, and affordances of the circular. About the story of a round in a square.
