Kocian, Rafael Castro. January 2009 (has links)
The prison sports in particular is our focus, this environment that runs off the natural habitat of the athlete and, theoretically, is for rest, good nutrition and to talk to the state of maximum mobilization. Within the sports school found the existence of a championship, the Olympics team, where the competitors get together in the final stage in a city, getting on a merger. With this background of our study was born, aiming to verify whether emotional changes occur and, if occurring, what emotional states of students and teachers are changed in the environment of prison sports school, during the final stage of the Olympics Colleges and prepare analysis on the situations studied, allowing the creation of material to be delivered in the educational network, to serve as a reflection of professional study and Physical Education. Our research was qualitative type of case study, which collected data through observation noted in a diary from the field, questionnaires and interviews. Our participants were students and a professor of futsal team participant of Olympics team, in the child category, and the head of the delegation and an arbitrator. As a result, we obtained changes in the mood, fights, discontent, moments of joy, happiness and interaction. We also found a poor infrastructure and many moments where the athletes were nothing to do. Moreover, there are moments educationally rich and experience a unique moment in the interaction between students and teachers. / Abstract: This essay has as a subject a research about the Public High School Olympics (HSO) in the city of Campinas in the State of São Paulo. The proposal of this essay is to present discussions and realities found in several documents and files of the last decade about this theme. Some issues have arisen during the systematization of the content of the study: What is the commitment of the organizers to fulfill the objectives defined for these games? Who are the people that participate and collaborate to the HSO in other to remain alive that experience and what is the reality found in these games? This search will look at how the HSO has been expressing itself and how it influences on the physical education of Public High Schools. Considering the relations involving the different approaches of physical education and school sports competition, and in order to build a theoretical support for solving problems on this issue, we present reflections on these two subjects. As objectives, building theoretical connections from studies, thesis and documents about the school games, school competition and opinions collected through questionnaires filled by the participants in the city of Campinas. From the analysis of the High School Olympics trajectory, we intent to discuss and reflect on their organization, historic process, involvement in school physical education classes and pedagogical practice, characterizing the relevance of school sports competition and professional intervention in this process of physical education. As a methodological plan, the research proposal is thus outlined: (1) documental search on the East Campinas Educational Directory records and (2) the use of field research methodology of people that participated on the process of the High School tournaments to fetch the differences between the words and the reality of OCESP. In relation to the documents what we have found in the files were results of games, tournament regulations (rules, systems of dispute between others), quantitative data on the number of students, offering modalities and participating schools. The data collection and analysis were related to theoretical referential of this study and with interviews through questionnaires answered by the people involved in these events, enable a theoretical discussion and further inferences about the case of High School Olympics in Campinas. / Mestrado / Ciencia do Desporto / Mestre em Educação Física

The role of USSASA in facilitating the development of school sport in Tshwane North district

Mohlala, Francinah Kanyane 27 October 2008 (has links)
M.Phil. / The aim of this study was to determine the role that USSASA played in Tshwane North district, and to provide guidelines for the organization in facilitating optimal development of school sport in the district. It was an explorative type of study with qualitative and quantitative data collected from 39 schools in the district, with two respondents per school. A representative sample of schools were randomly selected (20% per category on average) for the study, which included Farm schools (n=3), Townships schools (n=14), Ex Model C schools (n=12), Independent (Private) schools (n=5) and LSEN (Learners with Special Educational Needs) schools (n=5). The principal and the sports organizer were targeted as respondents. Out of these, 38 schools responded, which means that 76 respondents completed the questionnaire. The questionnaire included three categories which focused on biographical Information, sport related issues and strategic partnerships. The findings indicated that USSASA had made a substantive contribution to school sport in the district. However, the demands made by schools were diverse and sometimes unachievable, especially learners from LSEN schools felt marginalized as they were not included in mainstream sport programmes and events. Furthermore, some schools were found to have their academic activities disturbed due to educator involvement in USSASA. This shows that due to unceasing demands, USSASA needs to employ full-time staff to do its work and not involve educators to such a large extent. Information flow to some schools from USSASA also did not reach the schools in time. However, USSASA provided access to wider sport participation in 18 sporting codes for many schools. / Prof. C. Bestuursopleiding vir skolesport in Gauteng

Vosloo, Johannes Jacques 23 February 2010 (has links)
M.Comm. / The world-wide professionalisation of sport has created an increasing need for trained sport managers. In the South African context, a variety of Sport Management Programmes exist but guidelines and recommendations for training specifically of the South African school sport manager have neither been set nor implemented. In the view of scarce resources, demands and challenges posed by the holistic development in the new outcomes based education the school sport manager needs to be trained. Therefore, it is necessary that research be done in this area to identify and describe the competencies of the school sport manager. The aim of the study is to describe the competencies of the school sport manager in order to provide guidelines and recommendations for appropriate education and training. To find possible solutions, the historical development (longitudinal) of sport and other means of physical participation as well as the development of children and the role the school plays in that development is explored and described. Different sociological theories informed the conceptual framework for contextual description and analysis. The competencies of the school sport manager, within a commercialized context, are described with reference to its functional components and professional requirements. The methodology includes structured self-administrated interviews, preceded by a self-designed questionnaire that was completed by 12 secondary school representatives. The results indicated that the management of school sport is especially varied, politicized and complex. There is a statistically meaningful difference between the required competencies of school sport managers and what is currently in place. Relative small differences in the requirements of the management competencies of school sport managers exist according to the focus of various sport codes. Various potential shortcomings with varying scope in the competencies of the school sport manager were identified in the survey. It would be possible for the school sport manager to acquire the necessary competencies through fundamental, core and elective contents and learning outcomes during Sport Management training. Guidelines and recommendations for future training are offered.

The nature of social cognition in high performance adolescent team athletes

Tench, Elizabeth 05 1900 (has links)
Fifty adolescent ice-hockey players, ranging from 13 to 15 years of age, were studied in order to determine whether high performance players differed from non-high performance players on measures of social cognition in the sport context. Two Divisions of Bantam hockey players were studied: (1) Division A or high performance players, and (2) Division B or non-high performance players. Participants were examined for differences on a measure which assessed level of Case's neo-Piagetian Central Social Conceptual Structure (CCS; Case, 1992) and for differences on three measures of elaborations on the basic structure. No differences were found between groups in a Multivariate Analysis of Variance, with participant's weight and Division of play as independent variables, on the four dependent variables. A Hotellings T2 analysis revealed no differences between high and non-high performance players of the same chronological age on Case's CCS. Univariate ANOVAs following the main analysis revealed no differences between the two groups of players in Concentration which is the ability to detect advance cues which would predict opponent's actions. High performance players demonstrated higher levels than non-high performance players in Flexibility, which is the ability to provide adequate solutions to social game problems. High performance players also demonstrated a greater orientation toward Intensity which is an orientation toward achieving Mastery goals (Dweck, 1992) than non-high performance players. Seven factors were obtained in an oblique Principal Components analysis of the Concentration scale. An ANOVA of Division of play on the first principal component revealed no significant differences between high and non-high performers. Number of words used in responding to the problem set assessing CCS were correlated with Structural Level (.56, p <.01) and Flexibility (.47, p <.01). The findings have the following implications for theory and practice in the area of high performance: (1) structural level, which is largely maturational, does not account for differences between high and non-high performers, (2) encapsulated abilities, which appear to have a high learning component, explain differences between high and non-high performers, (3) significant increases in performance will most likely occur as a result of efforts to develop the encapsulated component of development rather than the structural component. / Education, Faculty of / Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education (ECPS), Department of / Graduate

School sport and political change

Powell, Keith Baden January 1990 (has links)
Magister Educationis - MEd / This dissertation will attempt to explain the changes that have and are taking place within south African sport and especially school sport. This will be viewed in the context of changing political developments. The central question that will be addressed is whether progressive school sports bodies can effect meaningful political change. Kuhn's theory of scientific revolutions will be used as the theoretical framework for understanding social and political change. He developed the concept of paradigms (frame of .reference) in which an established paradigm prevails, challenged by an emerging rival paradigm. This theory has been applied to the present day south African political context in which the apartheid structure is the prevailing paradigm and the democratic movement, the emerging rival paradigm.
