Utvecklingen mot en skolidrott för unga av unga : En kvalitativ textanalys av Svenska skolidrottsförbundets utveckling mot ett elevlett förbund / The evolution towards school sports for students by students : A qualitative text analysis of the Swedish school sports associations’ evolution towards being student ledMöller, Ludvig January 2024 (has links)
During the beginning of the 20th century, the Swedish School Sports Association was started with the goal of developing sports for students in Swedish schools. The association arose as part of the sports movement in Sweden and is a committee of the National Sports Confederation. During the first half of the 20th century, the Swedish Sports Association functioned like any other sports association, but with students as the focus group. In connection with their 50th anniversary, 1966, the Swedish School Sports Association invited students to their association's board. This became a turning point for the Swedish School Sports Association and what kind of association they have become in today. In modern times, the Swedish School Sports Association is an organization that works to teach young people to lead and take responsibility through democratic leadership, an organization for young people, led by young people. In this essay, the aim is to examine how the Swedish School Sports Association's development into a association led by students and young people began and developed. To analyze this development, this essay uses a qualitative text analysis as its method to analyze the Swedish School Sports Association's own archive material in the form of the member magazine Final, Activity Reports and campaign protocols between the years 1966–1981. Robert Putnam's theory of social capital which defines how an organization's social capital can be valued through "civic virtue" is used to value and develop a functioning democracy within a group. Putnam's theory will be used to visualize how this development of the Swedish School Sports Association has changed the organization's social capital with a focus on the students' integration. The essay asks three questions that aim to answer how students are engaged and involved in the organization of the Swedish School Sports Association and how this has developed democratic values within the association. With the aim of investigating students involvment within the organization, these questions will shape the structure of the inquiry and focus the reading of the archival material. The essay comes to the conclusion of how the development of the Swedish School Sports Association has gone over 15 years, from an organization with a low social capital where the students were only participants in the physical activities, to an organization with high social capital where the students are involved in everything from the physical activities to participation on the board. The survey also shows how unique this development has been during the latter half of the 20th century when placed in a larger societal and international perspective. A unique development for Swedish sports where the Swedish School Sports Association is one of the earliest to let students participate and lead. At the same time as it is an opposite development from American sports that is developing.

A case study of Mercer University's intramural and recreational sports program to assess the inherent and potential risks for implementation of a risk management programVan Kleeck, Vickie A. January 1986 (has links)
This case study involved a safety and maintenance audit of Mercer University's intramural and recreational sports program. The purpose of the audit was to expose potentially hazardous conditions in the area of supervision, conduct of activities, facilities and equipment. A method of risk reduction in the form of a risk management strategy was implemented to control for potential injury producing conditions to participants. Regular safety inspections, the hiring and training of program supervisors, upgrading of facilities and equipment and a closer relationship between the intramural program and other campus departments were some of the remedial steps taken at Mercer to provide a relatively safe environment. / M.S.

'n Onderwysregtelike perspektief op regsrisikobestuur in skolesport / Coenraad JurgensJurgens, Coenraad January 2012 (has links)
In the recent past South Africa saw an increase in participation in school sport
concomitant with an increase in litigation awareness in society. Legal accountability
based on damage suffered in the participation in sport has become more common,
introducing an additional dimension to risk management by the educator.
Learner safety is one of the key aspects in a school. Educator accountability with
regard to the safety of learners in school sports is a focus of attention.
An effective risk management programme to limit injuries and risks to participants in
school sports must be developed. Risk management is the prime instrument by which
injuries and the potential exposure of the educator or school to damage and legal
accountability can be reduced or prevented.
Some aspects of legal risk management are crucial for the educator's duty of care
during coaching and the educator's legal duty with regard to the participants' safety.
The educator must possess enough legal knowledge to successfully carry out his
duty of care. This research will critically assess the safety strategies and the legal risk
management of participation in school sports in South Africa. To be able to do this, I
determined which common-law and legally accountable determinants can be
applicable and what role they will play to ensure the safety of learners in schools.
Firstly a literature study in legal risk management in school sports was done. This
study found that the educator's responsibilities and obligations are determined by
common-law and case law determinants.
An empirical investigation was launched. Interviews were conducted with educators
involved in sports in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda district of the North-West Province. The
topic was the current state of affairs in risk management in school sport. The participants' perceptions of legal risk management were discussed and their views
analysed, whereupon findings and recommendations were made.
The general impression based on the results was that the educators experience huge
uncertainty and are seriously uninformed about with regard to delictual liability
towards learners under their care. It was found that educators do not have sufficient
legal knowledge to comply with the requirements set by law. Therefore the security of
the participants (on grounds of their participation) and the educators (on grounds of
their legal accountability) is jeopardised.
It is recommended that all tertiary institutions develop training programmes to
empower educators and student educators with knowledge of legal procedures in
education. It is further recommended that the education department as employer
together with governing bodies, principals and trade unions support such training
programmes- now and in the future.
Finally, educators, school management teams and governing bodies should be more
risk-aware and more pro-active in preventing sport-related injuries, because of the
ignorance regarding guidelines for risk management in sports and standards of
security. The complex nature of our society makes knowledge of the legal aspects in
education by all role players in education not only desirable, but mandatory.

Health promotion and physical activity can contribute to several health benefits. A Survey of Intramural Sports Programs for High School Students in the Four Largest Metropolitan School Districts in TexasMiller, Diane Marie 12 1900 (has links)
The purposes of this study were to determine whether intramural sports programs are available to senior high school students in the four largest metropolitan school districts in Texas and to determine reasons why schools may not offer intramural programs. Questionnaires were mailed to eighty-four high schools in the Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio Independent School Districts. Data obtained from this survey revealed that a majority of the responding schools do not sponsor intramural sports programs for their students. The factors cited most often as the reasons for not sponsoring intramural programs were lack of facilities, inadequate number of personnel, lack of transportation, and conflict with interscholastic sports.
