Introduction: The evaluation of motor performance in students has been used in the identification of sports talents. However, there are few studies, on this subject and none in the Sistema Colégio Militar do Brasil. Objective: This study had as an objective evaluated the anthropometric, physicomotor and maturational indicators, investigated the proportion of motor talents, analyzed the relationship between the motor talent diagnosis and the maturational stage, and compared the student-athletes and non-athletes profile of the Colégio Militar de Juiz de Fora (CMJF), Minas Gerais Brazil. Methodology: We evaluated 1490 students of both genders, from 11 to 17 years old. A multidimensional test battery was applied to assess body size and composition, flexibility, manual grip strength, upper and lower limb explosive strength, velocity, aerobic endurance, and somatic maturation. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and Covariance Analysis. Results: Students showed greater body size, higher motor performance and slightly advanced biological maturation in relation to data available in the literature. In addition, cut-off points were created for eight sports-related tests to identify students with far above average results, with 11% of motor skills being found. It was also found that motor talents were more frequent in biologically advanced students and student-athletes presented significant differences in relation to non-athletes, mainly in motor performance. Conclusion: It is concluded that CMJF students are larger, stronger, more resistant and more biologically mature when compared to the reference values in the literature, and those characteristics are accentuated in student-athletes. In addition, it was found approximately 1 in 10 students of the CMJF can be considered a motor talent and that this diagnosis is more frequent in students with advanced maturation.
