Indicators of stress intensity in domestic piglet's vocalisation / Indicators of stress intensity in domestic piglet's vocalisation

ČERVENKOVÁ, Iveta January 2015 (has links)
Vocalizations are widely studied as possible non-invasive indicators of welfare. The most common vocalizations in pigs are grunts and screams. This thesis is focused on the relationship between vocal parameters of piglet's grunts and screams and the behavioural arousal (which is assumed to indicate stress intensity) during the social isolation.

Fabrication of laterally stacked spin devices by semiconductor processing

Ghosh, Joydeep 04 December 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This work presents a new approach of fabricating arrays of electrodes, separated by sub-micrometer gaps allowing the systematic investigation of electric properties of organic semiconductors. The laterally stacked devices are fabricated by using a trench isolation technique for separating different electrical potentials, as it is known for micromachining technologies like Single Crystal Reactive Ion Etching and Metallization (SCREAM). The essential part of this process is the patterning of sub-micrometer trenches onto the silicon substrate in a single lithographic step. Afterwards, the trenches are refilled by SiO2 to allow the precise tuning of the electrode separation gap. The metal electrodes are formed via magnetron sputtering. This technological approach allows us to fabricate device structures with a transport channel length in the range of 100-250 nm by conventional photolithography. In this experiment, three different metals like Au, Co, and Ni were used as the electrode materials, while copper phthalocyanine, being deposited by thermal evaporation in high vacuum, was employed as the organic semiconductor under evaluation. The final aim has been study of spin transport through the organic channel in varied geometry.

Serial killer / serial TV : l’adaptation du « slasher » dans Scream : the TV series (2015-)

Huard-Tremblay, Florence 04 1900 (has links)
Inspired by the resurgence in popularity of TV horror, this thesis offers an analysis of the adaptation process of the slasher in Scream: the TV Series (2015-, USA, MTV and Netflix) created by Jill Blotevogel. Navigating between the condensed cinematographic narrative and the long and episodic format of television, the appearance of the TV slasher is positioned in a rehandling of television writing. Already based around serial killers, is the slasher the perfect serial phenomenon? The problematic of this research questions the definition of the serial phenomenon that is the slasher, and how it is imported on the television format. Through the analysis of the serial dimension of Scream's original trilogy (Craven, 1996, 1997, 2000), we will see how the various cinematographic slasher conventions find themselves transformed by the specificities of television.

Girl Power: Feminism, Girlculture and the Popular Media

Smith, Ashley Lorrain 08 1900 (has links)
This project is an interrogation of three examples from recent popular culture of girlculture, specifically texts that target young female consumers: the Spice Girls, Scream and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. These examples are fundamentally different than texts from earlier female targeted generic models because they not only reflect the influence of the feminist movement, they work on feminism's behalf. The project's methodology grows out of feminist film theories and cultural studies theories. One chapter is dedicated to each text, and each reading works to reappropriate girlculture texts for a counter-hegemonic agenda by highlighting the moments when each text manages to subvert its mass mediated conservative biases.

Tubino, Carmela de Lima January 2017 (has links)
The woven of this text has its beginning in the work of Antonin Artaud and in the anxiety that arise from the reading-listen experience as if it were a listening. The listening-reading that gathers in the construction of the poet effects of the testimony regarding the moment of the subject fall, of the structure disconnection, of looseness time between the voice and the word, when what arise is the scream. For that, I laid a reading path that is a listening essay in the narrative of Antonin Artaud. This narrative is found in the letters which were wrote by him in his time as an intern in several French mental asylums, from 1937 to 1946. This reading makes his letters as the research compass, but maintain the connection to other work of this poet. Faced with the mental asylum enclosure, the straitjacket and the electro-shock, Artaud remained bound to the art. The theater will compose one of the spaces out of this asylum logic. In the letters, in the theater, in the poems or in the self-portraits, the artist lives to find a way to transcribe what is an scream instance. This study regarding the voice and the writing attempts of the unnamed, leads an auxiliary question about the body. This question arises in the clinical experience which finds, replacing the words from a discursive plot, something else that makes the subject history cyphered in the body. To compose this plot between the plot between the text from Artaud and the questioners that arise from the clinic, I turn to the threads of the lalanage psychoanalyses – theoretical articulator which in my reasoning, connects body and word, voice and writing. Since lalange that I tend to the work of Artaud. Artaud, played, draw, wrote and shout out the scream. With these actions the scream, trace of the real that irrupts in the association chain due to the disarticulation of the speech, can make the passage: from the voice emptiness unanchored from the word during the moment of the subject fall to a time/space of direction and existence. Existence that sustains itself embodied in the work of Artaud.

Scheibner, Dirk 10 March 2005 (has links) (PDF)

Screaming screw tightenings / Skrikande skruvdragningar

Andersson, Jacob, Danielsson, Fredrik, Löwen, Wilhelm January 2017 (has links)
This paper is a bachelor thesis in machine design where screaming screw tightenings are discussed. The research was initiated with a preliminary study in screw mechanics and the tightening process, as well as the stick-slip phenomenon. Furthermore, interviews were conducted with people at Scania and Atlas Copco who have relevant experience in screaming screw tightenings. These interviews strengthened the theory that screaming is caused by stick-slip. The natural frequency of a screw joint with a M8 x 60 mm screw and M8 M6M nut were approximated with FEM-analysis in Ansys. This in order to provide data for comparison with measured screams in future practical tests. The initial hypothesis that stick-slip causes scream was considered plausible since the natural frequency for the screw joint’s torsional oscillation is within the audible range.
