Asthma prevalence continues to increase across the United States of America, affecting more than 43.1 million people and projected to affect over 50 million people by 2025. Asthma prevalence differs by demographic characteristics, such as race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, education, age and gender. Poor quality of life is common among people who suffer from asthma, in addition to school and work absenteeism. In 2008, children 5-17 years old with at least one reported asthma attack missed 10.5 million school days in the past year (CDC, 2010). Healthcare use for asthma is high and disparities remain in asthma healthcare use and reimbursement. In community settings, reimbursement for asthma education and prevention has been problematic due to current reimbursement mechanisms (Bodenheimer et al. (2003); Halterman (2010); CDC (2011) and Laster et al. 2010) that do not go far enough in assisting low-income communities manage their asthma medically nor have uniform standards for billable services associated with asthma management provided by both healthcare professionals and public health workers. A change in reimbursement policy is advocated and the evidence for the effectiveness of community health workers in asthma management is examined.

This project explores Oscar Wilde's work on painting, the art of dress, and home decor, referred to collectively in his lectures as the 'decorative arts.' While it has become commonplace to assert that Wilde's plays and essays subvert the status quo, few scholars have studied Wilde's work on the decorative arts to substantiate his status as a writer arguing for social and political change. Through an analysis of Wilde's North American lecture tour and his editorship of The Woman's World, as well as his approach to painting, clothing, and home decor in his more well-known work, I argue that Wilde conceives of the decorative arts as a means of expressing and inciting dissatisfaction with the social and political realities of Victorian England. / As I show, Wilde subtly presents avant-garde art, sartorial details, and home decor items as functional ornaments. The formal elements of a painting foster receptivity and, by extension, sensitivity and compassion. Unconventional attire functions as a visual symbol of discontent with social and physical conformity. In light of Wilde's published support of women's emancipation, his writings on home decor imply that the well-decorated house, rather than the Victorian wife, should be responsible for creating domestic harmony. / Wilde's penchant for the decorative arts has long remained the domain of anecdote; the following study instead positions Wilde's interest in the decorative arts as a defining, and insightful, aspect of his oeuvre .

Todėl karjeros valdymo kompetencijų plėtojimas tampa aktualia tema. Šiandieninis darbo rinkos pasaulis ir darbo rinkos kaita bei socialiniai, technologiniai, ekonominiai ir globaliniai pokyčiai keičia karjeros sampratą ir asmens karjeros planavimą. Todėl karjeros valdymo kompetencija negali būti baigtinė (įgyta ir taikoma visą gyvenimą), ugdymo procese būtinas perėjimas į saviugdą, lemiančią karjeros valdymo kompetencijos plėtrą. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The topic of career selection and management was considered by the lots of Lithuanian and the world’s scientists, however the presumptions to the education of the competences of career education in school age were less considered. The world, where the career path of a human being forms, changes continuously, and theories, ideas as well as selected methods, how to achieve a successful career, change continuously. Therefore the development of career management competences becomes a relevant topic. The modern world of a labour market and the change of the labour market as well as social, technological, economical and global changes change the concept of career and planning of a personal career. Therefore, the competence of career education shall not be limited (acquired and applicable the whole life long). In the educational process, there is necessary shift to self-education determining the development of the competence of career management. With reference to the opinion of competent scientists, we assessed the educative presumptions for the career readiness of pupils created in Lithuanian Gymnasiums; however these are insufficient and uneven. This thesis encompasses a twofold purpose. On the one hand, it seeks to explore and to formulate a definition of the concept of "place" and what is meant by the words "sense of place" in fiction. Within this purview, the thesis also distinguishes between the concept of place and the fictional technique of setting. On the other hand, the study provides an analysis of Hawthorne's work based upon the implications ensuing from a consideration of place. While most of Hawthorn's familiar short stories and novels are discussed briefly and referred to where appropriate, the bulk of the study provides in-depth analyses of several short stories and sketches which have received little critical attention. The short pieces discussed in greatest detail are as follows: "My Visit to Niagara," "Foot-prints on the Sea-shore," "The Old Manse," "The Lily's Quest," and "Main-Street." These pieces were selcted because they focus on "places" directly, because they require critical attention, and because they shed light on several of Hawthorn 's major works. The overall concern with the concept of place is deemed important by the author because the concept figures so prominently in Hawthorn 's work and thus serves as a way of enhancing the reader's understanding of Hawthorne's mind and art.

Seven Poems was written for a text in combination with live and recorded sounds. The sound sources used for the recorded portion of the composition came from Bb clarinet and male voice. The taped sound was processed with filters, amplifiers, modulators, reverberators, and various other signal modifiers to expand the timbral possibilities.The text that was used for this piece is a poem by Mark Strand written in 1970. Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) demonstrates a remarkable affinity for surrealist poetry in his numerous settings of leading modernist French poets from the first half of the twentieth century. The poetry of Max Jacob (1876-1944), a once unduly marginalized writer who is now regarded as an influential initiator of surrealism, provided the inspiration for one of Poulenc's most significant works, the chamber cantata Le Bal masque (1932). / This thesis seeks to shed light on Poulenc's largely neglected artistic interaction with Jacob by exploring musical counterparts to the poet's unique surrealist aesthetic in Le Bal masque. Chapter one examines Poulenc's artistic milieu surrounding the composition and first performance of Le Bal masque, and reviews previous literature on Poulenc's involvement with avant-garde art and literature. Chapter two focuses on Jacob himself and discusses key aspects of his subversive poetic aesthetic. Chapter three outlines the fundamental characteristics of surrealist art in general and reviews previous discussions of music and surrealism. The final chapter explores surrealist influences in Le Bal masque while concentrating on musical parallels to central features of Jacob's poetry and surrealist art in general described in the preceding chapters.

This study addresses the measurement of satisfaction. In doing so, it proposes a hypothetical conceptual framework for examining visitors’ satisfaction with their experiences in nature-based settings. Visitors’ overall satisfaction with their experiences was examined in terms of its relationships to visitors’ satisfaction with various site attributes, to visitors’ perceived importance of interpretive programs to learning, and how it is affected by visitors’ age, gender (male or female) and visitation pattern. The responses of 1309 Visitor Information Program (VIP) surveys returned by visitors to two national sites in Nova Scotia (Port Royal National Historic Site and Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site) provided the data for this study’s investigation. Secondary data analyses revealed that visitors’ satisfaction with the site attributes has the strongest effect on their overall satisfaction with their experiences. While visitors’ perceived importance to learning was also found to be positively correlated to overall experience satisfaction, when other variable are taken into consideration, its effect on overall satisfaction was found not to be statistically significant. Amongst these variables, gender was found to explain a significant amount of variance in visitors’ overall satisfaction with experiences in nature-based settings. Moreover, visitors of different age groups differ significantly in their perceptions of importance of interpretation to learning, and in their satisfaction levels. Although the findings show high levels of satisfaction at both sites, these are taken with caution. A discussion of the issues related to the measurement of satisfaction is provided, along with recommendations for a more discriminant, valid and reliable satisfaction measurement instrument.
