Vliv výstroje a výzbroje na držení těla při střelecké poloze v kleku / Impact of gear and weaponry on posture in kneeling shooting position

Zdražila, Václav January 2016 (has links)
Title Impact of gear and weaponry on posture in kneeling shooting position Objectives The aim of this thesis is to find out the impact of gear and weaponry on posture in the kneeling shooting position. Specifically, this study examines the influence of carried load on posture, aiming stability and balance in the high and low kneeling shooting position variants. Methods This thesis has an empirical observational character. The shooting position was tested by Qualisys camera system and Kistler pressure plates. The measurment was performed on 16 Military department students with mean age of 23 years (standard deviation 2,63 years). Measurements were carried out in four levels, with no load, light load of 15 kg, mean load of 30 kg and heavy load of 45 kg. The measurement was performed on high kneeling variant and the low variant with elbow supported by the front knee. Intra-individual comparison of the results of each level was determined by a T-test. Results: The load in a form of gear and weapony had a statisicaly significant - negative influence on the kneeling shooting position posture. Gear and weaponry used for this study caused a lower trunk position, increased shoulders angle in the low variant, lesser aiming stability and balance control in the position. The bigger was the weight of gear and...

Open Fire: A Portrait of Gun Control in U.S. and International Newspaper Articles after the 2011 Arizona Mass Shooting

Smathers, Heidi L 05 May 2012 (has links)
This research sought to explore media framing theory, first introduced by Erving Goffman, which asserts that the media portray certain items in a way that affects awareness, salience and tone of those items. There has long been debate about media framing especially as it pertains to the framing of violent events. Mass shootings are of particular interest because of the graphic and often senseless nature of the crime. This study looked particularly at the 2011 Tucson, Arizona mass shooting. A content analysis of articles between February 7, 2010, and November 8, 2011, was conducted to explore media framing of gun control after the Tucson, Arizona mass shooting involving U. S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords. Results showed an equal amount of articles with a negative or neutral tone, with the tone shifting to being more frequently neutral after the shooting. The topic shifted toward legislation, adding further support to media framing theory. These findings have impacts for media and public relations.

Citizen Perceptions of Law Enforcement Shootings Involving Imitation Firearms

Gregory, Kristine Angela 01 January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative ethnographic study was to explore citizen perceptions of the phenomenon of law enforcement shootings involving an imitation firearm. A secondary purpose was to document knowledge of current imitation firearm policies and thoughts on the effectiveness of said policies. Kingdon's multiple streams approach was used as the theoretical framework. This theory addressed the sources of power that influence policy decisions, the stakeholders involved in agenda setting, and factors that shape policy debates. Data were collected using a combination of secondary data analysis, field observations and semi structured, face-to-face interviews with 23 citizens. Sampling strategies included a combination of snowball, purposeful, and variation sampling to identify interviewees from four specific subject groups: law enforcement, parents of children aged 10-17-years-old, citizens with no law enforcement experience and no children aged 10-17-years-old, and leaders in the community. Results from domain and taxonomic coding revealed the themes of safety, responsibility, and accountability. Specifically, subjects wanted to ensure both law enforcement and citizens were safe in the community, they wanted to see parents take responsibility for their children, and they wanted to see legislation that held people accountable for their actions when using imitation firearms during the commission of a crime. Findings may be used for positive social change by enhancing imitation firearm policies, recognizing ways to improve data tracking, and identifying educational opportunities for both citizens and law enforcement. Enhanced firearm policies can also help mitigate unnecessary shootings and reduce community conflicts between citizens and police.

Awareness and Understanding of a College Active Shooter Crisis Plan

Williams, Christopher Brian 01 January 2017 (has links)
Gun violence on college campuses has gained the attention of campus leaders, leading to an active shooter policy and procedure development and implementation. There was little awareness within the campus leadership of a college in the Southeast United States on the college's active shooter policy and procedures. Guided by Coomb's crisis management plan model, the purpose of this case study was to explore how information was provided to students, faculty, and staff regarding how to respond to an active shooter on campus. Purposeful sampling was used to identify 16 participants (6 students, 5 faculty, and 5 administrator/staff) who were interviewed in person. Data analysis included content analysis for the documents and open and axial coding for the interview data, followed by identification of emergent themes. The outcomes included significant variations and inconsistencies among students, faculty, and staff regarding awareness and understanding of how to respond to an active shooter crisis. Overall, students demonstrated the least awareness and understanding. Based on the findings, a project was developed consisting of recommendations to augment the current active shooter procedures and to develop a comprehensive active shooter policy. The results of the study could promote increased awareness, understanding, and preparation for students and employees of technical and community colleges regarding an active shooter policy and procedures, thus increasing safety and confidence on campus.

Face Transformation by Finite Volume Method with Delaunay Triangulation

Fang, Yu-Sun 13 July 2004 (has links)
This thesis presents the numerical algorithms to carry out the face transformation. The main efforts are denoted to the finite volume method (FVM) with the Delaunay triangulation to solve the Laplace equations in the harmonic transformation undergone in face images. The advantages of the FVM with the Delaunay triangulation are: (1) Easy to formulate the linear algebraic equations, (2) Good to retain the geometric and physical properties, (3) less CPU time needed. The numerical and graphical experiments are reported for the face transformations from a female to a male, and vice versa. The computed sequential and absolute errors are and , where N is division number of a pixel into subpixels. Such computed errors coincide with the analysis on the splitting-shooting method (SSM) with piecewise constant interpolation in [Li and Bui, 1998c].
