Aljaška - kultura a divočina v audiovizuálních reprezentacích / Alaska - Culture and Nature in Audiovisual Representation

Moulis, Ladislav January 2014 (has links)
Alaska, which has been the 49th state of the USA since 1959, is a very unique locality according to many viewpoints. Although it is a part of the civilized Western world, it presents one of the last well- preserved wildlife on the Earth. Although Alaska is gradually settled by immigrants, native people have to deal with their dilemma connected with assimilation for many centuries. They did not create their own new culture - its cultural specifics are still defined by combination of original cultural patterns of Yup'ik and Inupiat Eskimos and natural tribes Tlingit, Haida, Athabaska, Aleut and imported cultures. My work is a study of clashes between civilization and nature resp. civilization and original ethnic groups and it goes throughout structural analysis of audiovisual artefacts, in this case visual records and films from fictional and non-fictional category. The subject of my analysis is a method and variability of possible approaches to Alaska presentation by audiovisual means and mainly examines formation and development of stereotypes in presentation of wildlife and human lifestyle in their specific conditions. The advantage of my research is a limited locality and relatively lowly explored area and also overview (even numerous) of audiovisual materials in its own way. Next to the...

Neige électronique - L'effet vidéo / Electronic Snow – The Video Effect

Heristchi, Vincent 08 December 2010 (has links)
Video is currently used on television and as an amateur format, and has been for a few decades. But its mixing with feature movies shot on traditional 16 or 35 millimetres is more occasional, even if it can offer new aesthetical possibilities. By keeping the particular texture of video, in a mix and a confrontation of formats, an effect can occur. The creation of that “video effect” is the subject of this study. What can create a video image [defined and readable as video] when a fiction or a documentary’s reference of format is on celluloid? To that purpose, some films directed by Robert Kramer, William Klein, Michael Haneke, Fritz Lang, Jean-Luc Godard, Atom Egoyan, David Cronenberg, David Lynch, Abbas Kiarostami, Abel Ferrara, Wim Wenders, Chris Marker or Jean- Daniel Pollet will be investigated. These images determine a particular video effect [television, CCTV or amateur-intimate], and its constituting elements can be altered. Video can also lose all its narrative justification and influence the audience’s emotions only through its texture, in order to eventually « make the image » [in reference to Samuel Beckett’s short story]. Finally, by creating instability in the nature of its constitution, the video effect can contain the openness of a poetic whisper.

Methods and systems for vision-based proactive applications

Huttunen, S. (Sami) 22 November 2011 (has links)
Abstract Human-computer interaction (HCI) is an integral part of modern society. Since the number of technical devices around us is increasing, the way of interacting is changing as well. The systems of the future should be proactive, so that they can adapt and adjust to people’s movements and actions without requiring any conscious control. Visual information plays a vital role in this kind of implicit human-computer interaction due to its expressiveness. It is therefore obvious that cameras equipped with computing power and computer vision techniques provide an unobtrusive way of analyzing human intentions. Despite its many advantages, use of computer vision is not always straightforward. Typically, every application sets specific requirements for the methods that can be applied. Given these motivations, this thesis aims to develop new vision-based methods and systems that can be utilized in proactive applications. As a case study, the thesis covers two different proactive computer vision applications. Firstly, an automated system that takes care of both the selection and switching of the video source in a distance education situation is presented. The system is further extended with a pan-tilt-zoom camera system that is designed to track the teacher when s/he walks at the front of the classroom. The second proactive application is targeted at mobile devices. The system presented recognizes landscape scenes which can be utilized in automatic shooting mode selection. Distributed smart cameras have been an active area of research in recent years, and they play an important role in many applications. Most of the research has focused on either the computer vision algorithms or on a specific implementation. There has been less activity on building generic frameworks which allow different algorithms, sensors and distribution methods to be used. In this field, the thesis presents an open and expendable framework for development of distributed sensor networks with an emphasis on peer-to-peer networking. From the methodological point of view, the thesis makes its contribution to the field of multi-object tracking. The method presented utilizes soft assignment to associate the measurements to the objects tracked. In addition, the thesis also presents two different ways of extracting location measurements from images. As a result, the method proposed provides location and trajectories of multiple objects which can be utilized in proactive applications. Toinen proaktiivisen tekniikan sovellus on tarkoitettu mobiililaitteisiin. Kehitetty järjestelmä kykenee tunnistamaan maisemakuvat, jolloin kameran kuvaustila voidaan asettaa automaattisesti. Monissa sovelluksissa on tarpeen käyttää useampia kameroita.

Are U.S drone targeted killings within the confines of the law?

Chengeta, Thompson 30 October 2011 (has links)
Equally discomforting is the PlayStation mentality that surrounds drone killings. Young military personnel raised on a diet of video games now kill real people remotely using joysticks. Far removed from the human consequences of their actions, how will this generation of fighters value the right to life? How will commanders and policy makers keep themselves immune from the deceptively antiseptic nature of drone killings? Will killing be a more attractive option than capture? Will the standards of intelligence gathering justify a killing slip? Will the number of acceptable collateral civilian deaths increase? / Prepared under the supervision of Mr Gus Waschefort at the International criminal court, The Hague, Netherlands / Thesis (LLM (Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa)) -- University of Pretoria, 2011. / http://www.chr.up.ac.za/ / nf2012 / Centre for Human Rights / LLM

Rozdíl v efektivitě tréninku střelby s odlehčeným a těžkým kotoučem v kategorii starších žáků / The differences in shouting training with loaded and unloaded ouck in U14 cathegory

Loskot, Jiří January 2020 (has links)
Title: Difference in the efficiency of heavy puck and light puck training in midget male ice hockey players Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to compare the training efficiency of heavy and light puck forehand shooting in groups with different skill levels with focus on short- hand shooting, long-hand shooting and wrist-shooting in midget male ice hockey players. Methods: Intervention experiment method was used to perform this work, in which two tested groups were compared by ANOVA analysis. The significance of change was determined by Cohen's d parameter. The two tested groups consisted of 16 midget male ice hockey players of SK Černošice ice hockey club. The study consists of three measurements of shot speed, shot accuracy and handgrip strength measured before and after the first six-week training cycle and at the end of second six-week training cycle. The shooting training was performed by long swing, short swing and wrist-shot technique using heavy-weight and light-weight pucks. These pucks were used in specific shooting training drills. Results: Skill-wise technically better equipped players (starting with heavy weight puck program) reported bigger improvement in long swing, short swing and wrist- shot shot speed and accuracy after heavy-weight puck training program than after light-weight...

Insatser för att rädda liv : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om projektet Sluta skjut i Malmö / Efforts to save lives : A qualitative interview study on the stop shooting campaign in Malmö

Rosenblom Petersson, Jeanette, Khabbazi Zowj, Ayda January 2021 (has links)
In 2017, an average of one person a month was shot dead in Malmö. Authorities in Sweden stated that more serious violence linked to criminal groups is increasing and measures are being implemented. Malmö's strategy was then to implement a method from the USA called GVI (Group Violence Intervention). The purpose was to reduce the serious violence through cooperation between the police, the municipality and civil society. The method was initially used as a time-limited project, but when the effect showed good results, it was decided to extend it. As a result, we want to investigate how the professionals within the project, Stop Shooting, perceived and thought about the project and its effects. The survey is qualitative and consists of eight semi-structured interviews with professionals within the project. The interviewees work in the police, probation and for Malmö Municipality. The results were interpreted and analyzed on the basis of previous theory and previous research, and the results showed that all in general were positive about the project and its effects, despite the fact that the effects of the project could be perceived in different ways. Finally, we resulted in the project's success being largely due to collaboration between the various actors. The strategy is partly proactive as it tries to counteract continued crime through informative contact with the criminals before they commit more crimes, and partly reactive because the heavier sanctions were introduced only when the criminal groups became the most violent.

Agrese a násilí vůči pedagogům pohledem pedagogů na gymnáziích / Aggression and Violence towards Educators - from the Perspective of Secondary School Educators

Franková, Monika January 2012 (has links)
The master thesis entitled Aggression and Violence towards Educators - from the Perspective of Secondary School Educators elaborates the problem of aggression and violence in school. The theoretical part contents a general description of the phenomena aggression and violence, further it focuses on school aggression, violence among pupils (bullying, cyber bullying) and other forms of school violence. The main research problems of the thesis are two forms of school violence: these are aggression and violence of students towards educators and aggression and violence of parents towards educators. The focus is concentrated on various forms of verbal and physical aggression exerted towards educators. Related to aggression and violence towards educators the thesis also attends to cyber-harassment and to a heavy form of school violence as is school shooting. In the empirical part of the thesis the aggression and violence aimed towards teachers, caused by students and their parents as well, are inquired in detail in the research. The research has been done at secondary schools chosen. Herein is analyzed whether educators consider the problem of aggression and violence towards their own personality as topical, whether they did meet some forms of such violence or whether they did face some forms of cyber bullying and...
