Smartphones, a fusion of mobile telephony, the internet and various media, such as a camera and recorder, are boosting transformations in terms of blurring the boundaries, and it is increasingly difficult to delimit public and private, real and virtual environments. Digital social networks are also being favored by this technology, which enhances their functions and intensifies interactive possibilities. Paradoxically to the population increase, through these mediating tools the world seems smaller and the perception of time and space is transformed. The purpose of this research is to identify the relation of the subject with these mediating technologies. In order to do so, we are based on the socio-historical perspective of understanding of reality, based on historical and dialectical materialism, which grasps productions built socio-historically based on concrete materiality, as well as the understanding of life as a contradictory and constant movement, Complex perception of reality, while mutually constituted by the individual and society. In this perspective the focal group technique was used to survey the subjects' speeches. A pilot group was carried out to test the proposed method and, after the necessary adjustments, there was a definitive application with six groups, totaling twenty-eight participants, all PUC-SP undergraduate students from different courses. As a trigger for the dialogue, slides were presented with images related to the subject. The verbalizations were recorded and transcribed to identify the meaning core, which were analyzed and discussed. In the meaning core potential emancipatory fragments as well as traps and risks in this process were verified / Na dinâmica contemporânea a vida cotidiana está atravessada tecnologicamente pela esfera digital.

ANIS, Muhammad Moiz 07 February 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Among the multimedia content distribution services to the handheld receivers, mobile TV is a popular service. Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) networks have high capacity and coverage to perform a mass multimedia content distribution. The conventional DVB networks are designed to cover fixed receivers, which have a roof antenna. The handheld receivers have different configurations which cause weaker link budgets. Generally, a broadcast system is unidirectional and it does not have a feedback channel to ensure the reception of the data at the receiver side. On the other hand, cellular networks have more reliable bidirectional links with the handheld receivers. Individual multimedia transmission to each handheld receiver generates a huge load in the cellular networks. In the specific example of mobile TV, it is not efficient to regenerate the same transmission load for each handheld receiver. In our thesis work, we consider a cooperation between the broadcast systems and the cellular networks for an efficient multimedia reception at the handheld receivers. We use the cellular network link for the retransmission of the lost packets from a multimedia broadcast data-flow reception. In this work we analyze the coverage for handheld receivers in a single frequency broadcast network. We specifically consider several outdoor and indoor scenarios in a DVB-T2 network. We analyze how a data flow is processed in DVB-T2 and propose a scheme for the identification of packets in the DVB transmission. The core contribution of our thesis work is the proposition of a Real-time Flow Repair (RFR) Service based on cellular network, which repairs any multimedia data-flow to the handheld receivers in real-time. The proposed RFR service is based on a light client-server application protocol, namely Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). The RFR proposal is also supported by the analysis of the load generated in LTE Radio access network due to RFR service.

Haglund, Fredrik, Turunen, Mattias January 2014 (has links)
This study is about the consumer adoption of fingerprint readers in cell phones. The implementation of fingerprint verification methods in mobile phones has been increasing. In 2013 iPhone 5S was launched with a fingerprint reader. Since then the two companies have launched the technology in its premium phones, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One Max. It has also become possible to make payments through PayPal using the technology, and soon it will also be possible to make payments on Alibaba.com, which is a Chinese version of eBay. In addition to the mentioned fields of usage above, it is possible to unlock your cell phone, protect images and messages with your fingerprint. With this current diffusion of this technology, we believe it is necessary to study the factors that influence consumer adoption of this technology in this context. This is necessary to examine in order to provide relevant information to companies involved in this technology in different contexts, thus we have adopted a corporate perspective in our study. The study was a quantitative survey, where a number of 207 respondents were asked to answer a questionnaire with attitude -based claims related to the fingerprint reader. The survey questions are based on theories that have been used in other studies which consider adoption of technologies such as m-commerce, 3G and Internet banking etc. The theories that were used in our study are the technology acceptance model, diffusion of innovation, the motivational model and self-service technologies. The results of our study showed that the relative advantage, observation, testing capability, usability, lack of trust and perceived risk had all a significant impact on the attitude towards fingerprint readers. The dependent factor attitude towards fingerprint readers consists of the assertions of the motivation model and our attitude claims that are included in the survey. The results provide both us and relevant enterprises a picture of what needs to be worked on in order to get more consumers to adopt fingerprint readers on their cell phone. Therefore companies should put marketing on the usability and show the relative advantage to convince people to start using the technology. By becoming more common to observe the fingerprint reader in everyday life, it will affect adoption positively. There was one factor that showed a negative effect on the adoption, this factor was the individual's lack of trust and perceived risk towards the fingerprint reader. By using this information, companies can look at introducing profitable actions, actions such as to promote and develop the technology and then to show that there is a high level of security in the usage of fingerprint readers. This can be achieved by ensuring that the message finds consumers, this can be done by for example marketing. By implementing actions that could potentially increase the rate of consumer adoption of fingerprint readers, it benefits both the manufacturer of the sensor and the mobile phone manufacturer by a possible increase in sales. We have also included a bonus in our work consisting of results we got after we had reconciled the theories above as independent factors and the motivational model as a dependent factor. The motivational model explains the situation of commitment and enduring commitment to a product. It turned out that to get the consumer to have an enduring commitment it requires that the relative advantage is emphasized and that consumers are assured that the use of fingerprint readers is safe. This in turn enhances confidence in the technology.

The use of cell phone with the application WhatsApp as a tool in the teaching of mathematics

Schmitz, Neuri 19 December 2016 (has links)
With the objective of identifying elements that justify the didactic use of telephone intelligent (Smartphones), we conducted a qualitative research investigating the trend of mobile learning, m-learning is seen that there is a shortage of studies focused exclusively on the use of the mobile phone as a teaching tool. Rescuing research on the theme in different areas of knowledge, this research discusses the use of cell phone device smart on the teaching of Mathematics by employing the application WhatsApp. We developed, therefore, a bibliographic search where we highlight how, currently, is seen the presence of mobile in the classroom, relation the teacher - student - cell phone, and still, the smartphone as technology in the classroom. As field work , we followed two groups WhatsApp compounds, by students of the third year of high School that have used the instrument as a tool for the study of Mathematics. On the face of it, we observe that the mobile phone can be an ally of great potential to meet the demands of the educational current. This device, with its potential, can become a pedagogical tool very powerful for a school that recently has been installing, known as Hybrid Education, because, with this device it is possible for the student have access platforms, such as Moodle, or Helpousts, which can be used in this model of education and that show it as the path that education will follow in the next few years. Experiences by teachers in Brazilian schools, with telephone intelligent, were also analyzed. In the face of several studies and groups who follow, we conclude that the use of pedagogical smart phone has the potential to revolutionize the communication between teacher and students as well as provide different approaches about the contents. However, we also observed in teachers a resistance to the presence of this instrument in the classroom for teaching purposes.

Riskerna med smarta mobiltelefoner i svenska markförband / The risks of smartphones in Swedish land forces

Hilbertsson, Henrik January 2018 (has links)
In this thesis, the risks of smartphones in Swedish land forces are analysed from anElectronic Warfare perspective, focusing on Signals Intelligence. The analysis is based on a fictitious scenario in a national context involving two differentactors. One actor uses smartphones and the other actor uses high technology ElectronicWarfare systems to exploit the phones. Based on risk indicators developed in the thesis, twodifferent cases are created, which are then analysed using a qualitative method with elementsof quantitative calculations. The results reveal that smartphones, used in Swedish land forces, put both individuals andunits at risk. The risks, analysed, are interception, location and revealing information fromthe phone’s Global Navigation Satellite System geotagging and functions. Therefore, the useof smartphones might unintentionally reveal information. Consequently, the use ofsmartphones requires an understanding of the risks generated. It is not possible to avoid risks,so the benefit of using smartphones must be weighed against the risk in each situation.

Keeping up with technologies : revisiting the meaning and role of Internet access in digital inclusion

Grošelj, Darja January 2015 (has links)
The ways people go online have been transformed by the emergence of new mobile Internet technologies. As modes of Internet access are becoming increasingly diverse, this thesis sets out to examine how various forms of access shape engagement with online resources. Inequalities in Internet access have been neglected in the "second-level digital divide" research, which has focused on differences in skills and usage. Thus, I argue that inequalities of access have to be revisited and their role in digital inclusion reassessed. To study individuals' arrangements of Internet-enabled devices and locations holistically and as a dynamic entity, access is conceptualised as infrastructure. Theoretically, I distinguish between material dimensions of access and social practices shaping access, and draw on existing models of digital inclusion to examine the role of these dimensions and practices in online engagement. Empirically, a mixed methods research design is employed, complementing longitudinal analyses of survey data representative of the British population with 29 qualitative interviews with British Internet users. This study contributes to our understanding of material and social dimensions of access and their impact on Internet use patterns. First, the conceptualisation of Internet access as infrastructure is empirically validated. Second, quality, locality and ubiquity are established as material dimensions of access, where offline social and economic resources most strongly affect inclusion in high-quality, multi-local and ubiquitous Internet access. Third, three specific practices encompassing how users develop and maintain their access infrastructures are identified: spotlighting, distributing and being stranded. They reflect differences in roles Internet technologies play in individuals' daily lives as well as differences in availability of offline resources. Fourth, the results show that, controlling for a range of digital inclusion factors, the access inequalities have significant effects on a range of online engagement types, but are most strongly related to commercial and communication uses of the Internet. In sum, this study provides a nuanced understanding of how different mechanisms underlie the development, maintenance and engagement with Internet access, depending on whether access arrangements are shaped by digital exclusion or choice. Specifically, by outlining critical differences among all-round, mobile-mostly, mobile-only and home-only Internet users, broader policy and research implications are also discussed.
