Knowing both biology and behavior of newly-mated founding ant queens may be extremely useful for understanding the evolutionary adaptations experienced by many social insect societies. The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of weight loss of A. sexdens founding queens on the mortality and on the production of eggs, larvae, pupae and workers, during both the founding and ergonomic periods, as well as to describe the behavior repertoire performed by the queens. Individual queen weight and number of eggs, larvae, pupae and workers per colony were taken weekly. Laboratory conditions were kept in 25 ± 5°C, 70 to 80 % of relative umidity and 12 hour fotoperiod. By the end of 168 days, mortality had reached 95,7% of the young queens, mainly in the pre-incubation phase (58,3% of mortality). On average, newly-mated queens weighed 0,7 ± 0,05g after the nuptial flight, losing, on average, 22,5% of weight during the founding period, and 44,7% in the ergonomic period. On average, the pre-incubation, incubation, larval and pupal phases lasted, respectively, 3, 26, 23 and 21 days. The relative frequencies of reproductive eggs, larvae and pupae in the founding period were significantly different from the ergonomic period. Forty-nine behavioral acts were identified and they could be distributed into seven categories, according to their seemingly deducible biological function. The newly-mated queens were found to be comparatively more active during the founding period, in relation to the ergonomic period. Contrary to what one could expect for Attini queens with claustral foundation, the most frequent behaviors registered for A. sexdens queens in this study were those related not to the care with the offspring or to the simbiont fungus, but rather to the self-grooming. This result is a strong indication that self-grooming may function as preventing colony contamination by potential parasites, having been possibly played an important role in the establishment of the obligatory ant-fungus mutualism. Data obtained from the conclusion of this study can be used in comparative studies among ant species, eventually helping in the understanding of their evolutionary processes.

The relationships between multi-dimensional sociometric status and selected performance variables for counselors in training from 1991-2004.

Overton, Christian C. 05 1900 (has links)
The relationships between sociometric status and selected performance variables for counselors in training were investigated. Gender differences in sociometric status were also investigated. Research participants were master's level counseling students. The point-biserial correlation coefficient was used to determine the relationship between sociometric status and grades. The SPSS 13.0 crosstabulation procedure was used to examine gender differences in sociometric status. The results indicated a moderate relationship between sociometric status and grades earned in a group counseling course. A small to negligible relationship between sociometric status and pre-practicum and practicum grades was found. No gender difference in sociometric status was found. The study provides some support for the use of sociometric measurements in predicting group counseling performance, but more research is needed.

Přínos adaptačního kurzu pro rozvoj sociálních vztahů ve školních třídách / The benefits of outdoor course for social relatioships development in school classes

Kalkusová, Lucie January 2020 (has links)
Title: The benefits of outdoor course for social relationships development in school classes Objective: The aim of the thesis was to examine how the outdoor course focused on teambuilding and social relationships development influences the structure and quality of social relationships in adolescent school classes. Methods: The research sample was created by 211 13 years old secondary school students (128 girls; 83 boys; average age 13.3±SD years) who participated on a 6-days outdoor course. The course was designed using the principles of dramaturgy to meet its objectives - let the students get to know each other and their teachers better, induce positive social relationships, a cooperative atmosphere, a sense of trust and safety in the class. The students filled in the questionnaire before the course, straight after the course and 3 months after finishing the course. It was a combination of preferential record, sociometric questions (choosing classmates for a birthday party and deserted island), B3 test and two open-ended questions mapping the preference of programme resources. The results were first analysed for each class to see what happened in each group and then all classes were summarized. Primary data were analysed by non-parametric Friedman's test, statistical significance between the...

A PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO COMO CENÁRIO SOCIAL DE CONSTITUIÇÃO DE SUBJETIVIDADES / The post-graduation as a social scenario to constitute subjectivities

Ataídes, Cláudia Barrozo de Queiroz 12 December 2005 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Claudia Barrozo de Queiroz e Ataides.pdf: 1059626 bytes, checksum: 97c902d985004b5a0f60e820d0305532 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2005-12-12 / This research investigates the post-graduation, presenting it as a social scenario that constitutes subjectivities. Through the means of indicators produced in monthly meetings with nine post-graduate students, carried out between March 2004 and May 2005, social subjectivity, a category developed by González Rey (2003), and specially sociometry, a category proposed by Moreno (1992), are explored aiming to broaden the reflection about the subjective social processes that structure the actions and inter-relations in the academy, constitute the post-graduates, and mold their writing. Social subjectivity refers to the existence of a social context of subjectivization that constitutes the subject and is constituted by it in a dynamic and reciprocal process. Sociometric analysis helps the investigation of complex processes related to choices, acceptances, rejections, mutual or not, which configure a social reality that is not apparent and many times is in dissonance with the official truth about the relations. Throughout the period of this research, three scenarios for analyses were designed: the post-graduation classroom, the dyad advisor-postgraduate student, and the post-graduate students private life. The results of the present research point to the need of reflection about the non-official forms of how the theoretical-methodological diversity is experienced in the post-graduation. In the analysis, the subject whom the academic society is committed with is questioned: on the one hand there is the autonomous subject, who is reflexive and able to live with and dialogue with diversity; on the other hand, there is the adherent subject, who is passive and involved in situations of subordination and commited with the dialogue between peers, in a self-confirmation exercise. The results here obtained also emphazise the need of rethinking the parameters that regulate the practice of advising in the post-graduation.

It was made a sociometric study of descriptive character, involving 223 articles from 78 journals. For this, the articles were divided in six thematic areas - Portfolio Theory, Capital Structure and Dividend Policy, CAPM, Market Efficiency, Price Options and Behavior Finance. Moreover, it was made the presentation of the cooperation social networks, splitting authors and institutions according to the thematic areas. Subsequently, it was made the analysis of the areas and institutions that most represent the publications in the searched population, as well as how the building of this knowledge occurred, based on the concepts of normal science and Thomas Kuhn paradigm. The following results were obtained, mapped and followed by the social network analysis (SNA): a) the theories that compose the Modern Finance Theory have their constitution anomalous concerning the paradigms; b) in the normal course of science, response to crisis was through new finance and its behavior model; c) the results presented between the dichotomy full and limited rationality in finance fit in the concept of normal science, according to its building course; d) Finance is a research area that has already presented its scientific paradigm; e) the comparison between the periods of published research and the knowledge building, in various moments, occurs through pre-paradigmatic periods, and its first divergence point was defined based on the real behavior factor. The answer was the insurgence and the insertion of behavior models in agents' decisions, which appeared in publications only in the last two decades, even under questionings of the dominant paradigm. Relationships between selected sociometric variables and academic performance for counselors in training.

Smith, Michael Robert 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to examine what relationships existed between selected sociometric variables and measures of academic performance for students in a counselor training program. The sociometric variables included counseling ability, counseling knowledge, and friendship. Academic performance measures included subject GPAs, group counseling participation and final grades, prepracticum grades, and practicum grades. Data was collected from sociometric questionnaires and academic records from the years 1991 to 2004, for 840 subjects who participated in a group counseling class at the University of North Texas. Counseling knowledge had the highest correlations with all academic measures except group counseling final grades, in which counseling ability had the highest strength. The strongest correlations for all three sociometric variables occurred with group counseling final grades; correlations were r = 0.42 for counseling ability, r = 0.40 for counseling knowledge, and r = 0.30 for friendship. The sociometric variable of friendship had the lowest correlations in all academic measures, but was more significant than expected. The friendship sociometric variable may account for likeability as a factor in making sociometric choices. Combined sociometric scores led to increased correlation strength and explained variances that reached the large level of 30% with group counseling final grades. A statistically significant difference was found between A and B grade students in group counseling, on all three sociometric variables. Effect sizes were generally large. Standard deviations for the A and B grade subjects were also large and could limit predictability of grades, based on sociometric scores alone. Results strongly suggested that all three sociometric variables would be a valuable source of information regarding counselor preparation. Results also validated that individual sociometric perceptions of others tended toward agreement. Significant correlations were found over a variety of academic measures and over a time-span of 14 years, suggesting a degree of consistency and stability in sociometric measures.

Sociální status integrovaného žáka s Aspergerovým syndromem v třídním kolektivu / Social status of the integrated student with Asperger syndrome in the class

Ondráčková, Kamila January 2014 (has links)
The goal of this diploma thesis is to map the issue of social integration of students with Asperger syndrome into a regular class of elementary school. The theoretical part is based on analysis of publications related to the topic. It deals with the description of the Asperger syndrome diagnosis and its symptoms, the concept of integration, mainly the integration of a student with Asperger syndrome, and the issue of classroom climate and the possibilities of its diagnostics and development. The practical part is based on the theoretical part. In it, the author focuses on the analysis of social status of integrated students with Asperger syndrome. Sociometrical techniques are combined with projective method and both are supplemented with a questionnaire for teachers and qualitative methods, primarily interviews with teachers and observation in class. Změna třídního klimatu po odchodu žáků na osmiletá gymnázia / The Change of Classroom Climate in Czech Elementary Schools with the Departure of Students into High-Track Schools

Holubová, Markéta January 2018 (has links)
The aim of the dissertation is to compare the psychosocial climate of the classes between the 5th and 6th grades of Czech elementary school. In the train of pupils' leaving into the high- tracked schools there are significant organizational changes in the classes of the 6th grade. This theme includes the phenomenon of the early tracking, when some pupils can leave the mainstream of education (elementary school) and start attending the high-tracked schools (multi-year gymnasium). The aim of our study is to contribute to the research, that with the departure of students into high-tracked schools the psychosocial climate in the classes of the 6th grade unequivocally exacerbates. We are also interested in which specific students are accepted into high-tracked schools, and whether they are effective classroom leaders and socio- metric stars. In our study, we also find out the classroom positions of students who are continuously educated in the 5th and 6th grades of the elementary schools and their classmates, who have come as new students into the classes of the 6th grade. In the theoretical section we introduce the foreign and domestic researches which were conducted on the association between tracking and classroom climate. The empirical part inquiries into a detailed analysis of quantitative research...
