Transformações do nitrogênio no sistema solo-planta após aplicação de herbicidas / Nitrogen transformations in soil-plant system after herbicide application

Virginia Damin 18 February 2009 (has links)
Herbicide adoption might modify nitrogen dynamics in agroecossystems and, for consequence, nutrient availability for plants and microorganisms. These modifications may occur because of plant physiologic changes and/or due to herbicide effects on activity and composition of soil microbial community, which has important functions on system N modifications. In this context, thesis was developed with the following objectives: 1- Evaluating nitrogen losses in soilplant system, with no distinction to exit ways, after herbicide application in Pennicetum glaucum, Avena strigosa and Brachiaria ruziziensis; 2 Evaluating NH4 + plant concentration, NH3 emission by leaves and soil NH3 volatilization after herbicide application in B. decumbens; 3- Evaluating nitrogen compounds exudation by B. decumbens after the application of the herbicides glyphosate, ammonium-glufosinate or paraquat; and 4- Evaluating nitrogen mineralization of P. glaucum e B. decumbens straw previously desiccated with herbicides and N-straw usefulness by corn plants. Glyphosate increased NH4 + concentration in plants of B. decumbens and, by consequence, NH3 leaf emission in two plant species of Brachiaria genus. Ammonia volatilization from soil was not affected by application of the herbicide glyphosate. Nitrogen losses of the soil-plant system were larger after glyphosate and ammonium-glufosinate application on P. glaucum, B. decumbens and B. ruziziensis. However, for A. strigosa, the losses were not affected by herbicide application. The herbicides glyphosate and ammonium-glufosinate modified species N partition, reducing N amount in leaves. System nitrogen losses and N plant partition were not affected by the herbicide paraquat, applied on B. ruziziensis and A. strigosa. Nitrogen compounds exudation was higher after application of the herbicides glyphosate, ammonium-glufosinate or paraquat on B. decumbens. Nitrogen mineralization from crop residues of P. glaucum e A. strigosa was reduced by crop desiccation with the herbicides glyphosate and ammonium-glufosinate, being observed smaller N-fertilizer amount in corn grown in soil with straw of these covering crops. Thus, kernel dry mass and whole plant dry mass were not affected by herbicide application for P. glaucum e A. strigosa desiccation. Microbial biomass carbon and ammonium-nitrate conversion were smaller in soil covered with P. glaucum straw previously desiccated with herbicides when compared to the check. Based on the results reached in this thesis, one could conclude that glyphosate, ammonium-glufosinate and paraquat may affect nitrogen dynamics at agroecossystems, reducing N availability for crops. These results indicate the necessity for developing new researches, aiming to know the real magnitude of the impacts caused by herbicides in the processes of nitrogen cycle. The information obtained in the work and in future researches related to the theme might be useful for creating management strategies that increase N crop usefulness and reduce environmental impact caused by herbicide and fertilizer adoption.

Efeito da irrigação com efluente de esgoto tratado no sistema solo-planta em Latossolo cultivado com cana-de-açúcar / Effects of treated sewage effluent irrigation on the soil-plant system of an Oxisol cultivated with sugarcane

Lilian Pittol Firme 05 October 2007 (has links)
The use of treated sewage effluent (TSE) in agriculture is a viable alternative once it is a source of humidity and mineral nutrients to the agricultural systems, allied to the reduction of good quality water consumption for agricultural irrigation, as well as the reduction of the discharge of TSE in the water courses, thus minimizing possible environmental damages. However, it should be standed out the importance of the continuous monitoring of the soil-plant system because of the risks represented by the wastewater use, overall those rich in sodium. In this manner, this work aimed to contribute to the knowledge of TSE application effects in the soil-sugarcane system, evaluating the chemical alterations of the soil and the plant, and also the quality of the soup. The experiment was installed in an experimental area situated at Lins, São Paulo State. The mineral fertilization at planting was half of the recommended nitrogen dose, 15 kg ha-1 of N (ammonium nitrate), and also 120 kg ha-1 of P (single superphosphate) and 80 kg ha-1 of K (potassium chloride). The experimental design was in complete blocks with split plots in time, with five treatments and four replicates. Applied treatments were: SI, without irrigation; 100%, soil humidity at the field capacity; 125, 150 and 200% that corresponded to 25, 50 and 100% more soil humidity than the field capacity, respectively. Increases in the concentrations of sodium (Na) in the leaves, phosphorus (P) and calcium (Ca) in the soup, and potassium in the culms were observed. Considering the micronutrients, reductions on the concentrations of manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) in the leaves, culms and soup occurred, while in the case of iron (Fe), observed reductions occurred for the soup. TSE irrigation has not prejudiced the quality of the industrialized culms. The highest yields were observed in the treatments 100 and 150, 247.33 and 232.81 t ha-1, respectively. Increments of the values of pH and concentrations of P, Na, boron (B) and Fe were obtained in the soil, while, in the case of Ca, magnesium (Mg), K and cupper (Cu) concentrations in the soil decreased. The organic matter levels decreased all over the soil profile and, the levels of total carbon (TC) and total nitrogen (TN) were not altered by the irrigation with TSE. The non-use of the mineral N fertilizer complete dose did not imply in the fall of the sugarcane-plant productivity. The perspectives for sugarcane irrigation with wastewater are promising, demanding however long-term studies in order to confirm the results obtained till the present moment, and also to the monitoring of possible damages that may occur in the soil-plant system.

Herbage production and transformations of the fertilizer nitrogen in irrigated tanzania grass.

Geraldo Bueno Martha Júnior 28 July 2003 (has links)
Whilst grazing management is a key component in pastoral systems little effort has been made to determine the adequate grazing intensity for tropical pastures, especially under irrigated conditions. The economical attractiveness of irrigated pasture systems depends on high pasture productivity, meaning that fertilizer nitrogen (N) must be used. However, to make effective changes toward sustainable N management, an understanding of the balance between N inputs and outputs and the efficiency of N cycling and transformation within the grassland system is required. In this context, seven experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of post-grazing residue or nitrogenous fertilizer levels on herbage production and on fertilizer-N recovery in irrigated Panicum maximum cv. Tanzania pasture. The post-grazing residue for irrigated, N-fertilized Tanzania grass pasture during the winter, considering a 36-day grazing cycle, should be around 1900 to 2100 kg/ha of green dry matter. During the spring/summer seasons the residual stubble mass should be around 1700 to 2700 kg/ha of green dry matter. This management ensured that leaf production and leaf/stem ratio were close to the maximum. A plot-size of 1 m 2 , with a tussock of the grass in its geometric center, was adequate to study 15 N-fertilizer recovery irrespective of grazing intensity and season of the year. Increasing the grazing intensity resulted in decreased tussock mass. The smaller the tussock mass the greater was the reliance on fertilizer-N. The combination of high soil water content, lack of rainfall in the day following fertilization and high temperature determined low urea- 15 N recovery in the soil-plant system (< 35% of applied N) and high ammonia volatilization losses (> 40% of applied N) at fertilizations levels higher than 80 kg N/ha during the summer. The absorption of ammonia volatilized from urea applied to soil varied from 2.5% (120 kg N/ha) to 16.4% (40 kg N/ha) of the volatilized nitrogen. With fertilizations lower than 60 kg N/ha it was observed sub-optimal N nutrition and a trend of higher 13 C discrimination during the summer.

Evaluation de l'exposition humaine liée aux activités pétrolières en Equateur : de la surveillance de la qualité de l'air à l'étude du transfert des contaminants métalliques dans le continuum sol-plante / Human exposure assessment related to oil activities in Ecuador : from the air quality monitoring to the study of metallic contaminants transfer in the soil-plant continuum

Barraza Castelo, Fiorella 13 October 2017 (has links)
Ecuador is the 5th crude oil producer country in South America. Oil extraction and refining generate toxic waste containing metals co-emitted with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), naturally present in crude oil or added during production, and known for their carcinogenic and toxic effects in humans. In this context and as a part of the ANR MONOIL program, the first aim of this PhD research was to determine the distribution of metal(loid)s in the environment in the provinces of Orellana and Sucumbíos (oil extraction, North Amazon " NAR ") and the city of Esmeraldas (oil refining, North Pacific Coast, " NPC "). The second aim was to determine if there was a transfer of toxic metals, such as Cd, from soil or air to cacao crops, widely cultivated in Ecuador, and if the consumption of cacao-based products could imply risks for human health. Finally, the third aim was to monitor air quality over 2 years in both areas to assess the impact of anthropogenic activities and the oxidative burden of particulate matter (PM10). Soils and local crops were collected in 31 small-scale farms, between 2014 and 2016. Monthly PM10 samples were collected in 3 sites, in the vicinity of oil platforms close to the refinery. PM10 chemical composition (contents in metals, organic and elementary carbon (OC, EC), ions, sugars, polyols, PAHs) was determined. Human health risk assessment was performed taking into account ingestion, inhalation and dermal contact. Non carcinogenic and carcinogenic effects were quantified using the Hazard Index (HI) and the Total Cancer Risk (TCR). Bioaccessibility of Cd after ingestion was determined by the BARGE in vitro test in cacao beans and liquors. In aerosols, reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation was quantified using 3 acellular assays: DTT (dithiothreitol), AA (ascorbic acid) and DCFH (2',7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescein). Ba, Co, Cu, Cr, Ni, V and Zn concentrations in 72% of the study soils exceeded the limits of the Ecuadorian legislation. For most of the crops, elements were below the limits of detection but, Cd in cacao and Pb in manioc were above the international standards for food quality. Cacao trees accumulate Cd in leaves, pod husks and beans. Because Cd contents in crude oil were below the detection limits, agrochemical products and natural inputs may also be important sources. Almost 100% of the total Cd content in cacao beans and liquor was bioaccessible by ingestion. The health risk after chocolate consumption was low to high, depending on the ingestion rate and the cacao liquor percentage. In PM10, As, Cd, Ni and Pb were below the EU thresholds. However, Ba and Mo, specific tracers of oil activities, used as weighting agents or catalyzers during drilling and refining, showed values much higher than those recorded in other urban-industrialized sites. PM10 composition depended on oil activity. OC/EC ratios were higher in the NAR (oil extraction) than in the NPC (oil refining), suggesting that biogenic emissions were more important in the Amazon area. PAHs contents were higher in the NPC, but levels of benzo-a-pyrene were below the EU limits. Oxidative potential results showed that compounds emitted by oil industry (PAHs, Ba, Ni, Zn) and by biomass burning (sugars) in the NAR as well as industrial tracers in the NPC (As, Ba, Ni, NH4+) were correlated with ROS generation. Regarding residential exposure, the main routes of exposure to metal(loid)s were first ingestion, inhalation and in a small extent soil dermal contact, being both children and adults vulnerable. Finally, the oil Ecuadorian environment is not only contaminated by oil activities. Other factors like deforestation, agriculture and natural emissions (volcanos) in the NAR and industries in the NPC also contribute to environmental damages and may lead to adverse health effects.

Response of native flora, soil fauna and their habitat to the introduction of invasive alien species

Abgrall, Corentin 17 September 2019 (has links)
Invasive alien plants are species introduced and naturalized outside of their native distribution range and which have the capacity to maintain and expand their population. Some of these species are considered to be ecosystem transformers by altering their structure, functioning as well as resident animal and plant communities. These induced alterations make some of these species undesirable through their ecological and economical impacts. The work presented in this thesis aimed at a better understanding of the impact of biological invasions by alien plants. The soil fauna, native vegetation and their substrate, as well as ecosystem functioning, were studied at different spatial scales. Two exotic alien species, invasive in Europe, were considered as biological models for this work: the black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) and the Japanese knotweed (Reynoutria japonica). Firstly, a global meta-analysis demonstrated the positive impact that plant invasions can exert on the abundance of some groups within the soil fauna, notably primary consumers, within different types of habitats (open or closed). Then, a large-scale study on the black locust revealed the differences that can can occur in the response of forest ecosystems to invasions along a latitudinal gradient. Study sites along this gradient, distributed amog four distinct regions in western Europe, exhibit differences in climate and dominant native vegetation which can alter the impact of the black locust. A detailed study on black locust impact in Normandy demonstrated the impact of R. pseudoacacia on native plant and soil fauna communities, as well as some ecosystem functions, in comparison to two native tree species. Finally, a laboraty experiment demonstrated the impact that allelopathic compounds extracted from Japanese knotweed rhizomes can have on some organisms within the soil fauna. This study showed that some invasive alient plants can influence the soil fauna, and soil food webs, through their secondary metabolism. This thesis illustrates that simultaneous study of both aboveground and belowground ecosystem compartments at different spatial scales is of interest in the context of biological invasions.

Bestimmung von Transferfaktoren Boden - Pflanze von natürlichen Radionukliden / Determination of the soil-plant transfer of natural radionuclides

Niese, Siegfried, Gleisberg, Birgit, Köhler, Matthias, Wienhaus, Otto, Rühle, Gebhard 31 July 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The used soils with enhanced activity of the radionuclides 210Pb, 226Ra, 227Ac, 230Th, and 238U and the analytical methods for the determination of soil-plant transfer factors are described and a survey of the obtained values for parts of plants used for human nutrition are presented. Gamma spectrometric determination of low radioactivities has been performed in an underground laboratory. For comparison the factors are determined for the plants of similar elements Ba for Ra and La for Ac. In all cases the values decreases from the roots over the leaves to the fruits. The values for 227Ac are relatively high and are in the magnitude of the „Richtwerte“ for radiation protection, in spite of the other radionuclides, which are lower than the „Richtwerte“.

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Ci?ncia Florestal, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2016. / A section of the BR-367, connecting the Diamantina town to the Guinda district, Minas Gerais, runs through areas of rupestrian field of Espinha?o Range and presents several loan areas, consisting of deposits of granular material consumed in road construction between the 1960?s and 1980?s, Currently, these areas are still heavily degraded, characterized by poor vegetation cover, soil exposure and the absence of an efficient surface drainage system. In this context, the need arises for alternatives that have effectiveness in the integration of silvicultural knowledge and ecological principles aiming the return of these areas to the conditions close to the originals. This work aimed to understand the relationship between environmental variables and the horizontal and floristic structure of the colonizing species of these degraded environments. Four degraded areas were selected, analyzed by aerial photographs referring to the years 1960 and 1979 in which it was possible to detect the degraded areas. For the study of the substrate, the four areas selected for the collection of deformed and undisturbed samples were stratified in a preferential way. The proportions of sand, silt, clay, penetration resistance data, particle and apparent density, total porosity, micro and macro porosity were obtained. For the chemical analyzes, 5 sub-samples of each stratum were collected with the aim of obtaining a composite sample of the surface substrate (0-20 cm), in order to represent the environmental heterogeneity of each area. The following parameters were analyzed: pH in water; Contents of P, K +, Mg2 +, Ca2 + and Al3 +; (S), saturation (V%), sum of bases (SB), CTC (T), effective CTC (t) and saturation by aluminum (m%) and organic matter. A PCA was performed by software PCORD version 6, in order to synthesize the variables of greater relevance in the correlation of the analyzed variables. Was used the method of the intersection in the line in which in each area were allocated twelve lines with 10.0 m in length, distributed in zigzag, following the soil collections, to correlate soil and vegetation characteristics. Each row was subdivided into ten continuous sample units (AU), totaling 470 POAs and the occurrence of species of herbaceous, shrub and arboreal habit. Phytosociological parameters were calculated: absolute frequency (AF), relative frequency (FR), absolute coverage (AC), relative coverage (CR), and importance value (VI). In order to compare the different sectors of the studied areas with respect to the profile of ecological strategies of herbaceous species, these were classified in guild systems according to the strategies of regeneration, stratification and dispersion. In the four areas analyzed, 1,517 individuals belonging to 22 families and 109 species were sampled. The analysis of the physical and chemical attributes of the substrate showed a high limitation to the development of colonizing plants, presenting as restrictions the high resistance to penetration and substrates of sandy texture with low natural fertility. It was verified that there was a relation between the environmental gradients and the abundance and floristic composition of the colonizing vegetation, being most of the species more strongly correlated with the variables MO, H+Al and V besides the proportion of Sand, PT, DMG and PR.

Geoprocessing applied to the study of the relationship between productive potential of eucalypt and attributes of soil and relief.

Jonas Luís Ortiz 17 October 2003 (has links)
The main purpose of this work was the application of a methodology, using classic statistics, geostatistics and geoprocessing techniques, to the mapping of the spatial variability of productive potential in a stand with clones of 6.3 year-old Eucalyptus grandis, and to analyze its relationship with attributes of soil and relief, by an approach denominated Precision Forestry. The investigation was carried out in an area of 8.4 ha, with hilly topography, belonging to the Suzano Bahia Sul Celulose, in Paraibuna, SP. It was installed, in the experimental area, an irregular grid totaling 41 sampling points, where data were collected related to their plane coordinates, for georreferencing of the study area; as well as altimetric data; attributes of plant, more specifically DBH and total height; and soil samples at the depht of 0-20cm, for chemical, physical and moisture analysis. Initially the statistical summary and the exploratory analysis of the data of each variable were accomplished, being used the statistical packages Excel, SAS and Statistica. Afterwards, the semivariograms for the variables were adjusted, in GS+ and in Geoeas, being defined the parameters needed for the kriging. After that, the ideal number of neighbors was evaluated for the kriging and the error of estimate by cross validation, being used the available functions in Geoeas. Finally, the contour maps and the continuous surfaces (DTM and DEM) of the studied variables were generated, in the software Surfer. With the digital models of the variables, were determined, in the GIS Idrisi, by correlation analysis and spatial regression among maps (regression pixel-by-pixel), the correlations and relationships among productive potential (SI) and attributes of soil and relief, as well as the adjustment of statistical models capable to predict the value of the site index by values of the attributes of soil and relief. The results showed that the best model of adjusted spatial multiple linear regression explained 79% of the variations in the SI. All the variables presented spatial dependence, except B and OM, and the spherical model presented the best adjustment for the semivariograms. Also, the correlations and relationships between SI and attributes of soil and relief were statistically determined, in Statistica and SAS, by correlation analysis and simple linear regression, that do not take into consideration the spatial location of the data. Starting from the analysis of multiple linear regression (methods "all possible regressions" and "stepwise"), statistical models were adjusted, being capable to predict the value of SI by values of the attributes of soil and relief. The best model of adjusted multiple linear regression explained 65% of the variations in the SI. The obtained results allowed identifying the attributes that influence the productive potential of the stand, mainly: altimetric levels and aluminum, in an indirect way; and moisture, total clay, total sand, very coarse sand, manganese and sum of bases, in a direct way. Relationships were identified among the variability of the studied attributes in the experimental area, mainly the relationship among the distribution of altimetric levels, total sand, total clay and aluminum with the Site Index; and among the altimetric levels, total sand, total clay, very coarse sand and moisture. In general, areas with a higher productive potential presented lower contents of aluminum, total clay and moisture; higher contents of manganese, sum of bases, total sand and very coarse sand. They are at the lowest locations in the relief, in other words, lower altimetric levels. This scenery determines higher porosity and permeability to the soil, allowing better aeration, penetration and growth of the root system, favoring the absorption of nutrients and water by the roots, as well as the exploration of water and nutrients reserves in the subsuperficial soil layer.

Effect of CO2 applied to the lettuce crop (lactuca sativa l.) through irrigation water and the environment.

Tamara Maria Gomes 19 December 2001 (has links)
The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of different CO2 application rates and periods via drip irrigation water on the development and nutritional state of lettuce plants, its productivity, further to the effects on the solution and CO2 flow in the soil, irrigation water pH and on the concentration in the atmosphere. The experiments were carried out in different periods for two years (1999 and 2000), at the Garden of the Biological Sciences Department of ESALQ/USP, in Piracicaba-SP, at 22º 42' 30' S latitude and 47º 30' 00' longitude. The first stage included preliminary tests to determine the CO2 concentration whose response would reflect the photosynthesis of the lettuce crop. The second and third stages were represented by four experiments to test the CO2 rates, determined at the first stage, and to observe the effects provoked by its application via irrigation water on the lettuce crop, on the atmosphere, on the soil and on the irrigation water. At these stages the experiments were conducted under plastic tunnels in a completely randomized block design. The treatments included CO2 rates - 0, 52, 155 and 310 kg ha-1 and distinct application periods - TT, T3/4, T1/2, T1/4 referring to the total and final ¾, ½ and ¼ of the crop cycle, respectively. CO2 was also applied to the environment in one of the experiments at a 155 kg ha-1 rate for comparative analysis with the CO2 applied via irrigation water. The irrigation was daily performed based on a class A evaporation tank, amended by the crop and tank coefficient (Kc and Kp, respectively). The CO2 monitoring was performed in the treatments receiving CO2 via irrigation water and via air. The 600 micromol CO2 mol-1 provided increased photosynthesis in lettuce. The CO2 application via irrigation water modified the development of the lettuce plants. The 52 and 155 kg ha-1 CO2 rates applied via water promoted an increased productivity for both cultivars studied, reaching values of up to 26% in comparison with the control plant, differently from the 310 kg ha-1 application rate, which failed to provide a positive response in the development of the plants. The soil-related analyses showed changes after the CO2 was applied through irrigation water, and the potassium ion was modified in the soil solution and in the aerial part of the plant, the CO2 flow in the soil increased with the higher applied CO2 rate, and the soil pH tended to decrease, together with the irrigation water pH. The application of CO2 via water did not change the concentration of the environmental CO2. With the CO2 application via air the atmospheric CO2 increased simultaneously with the application, returning to the normal concentration when the operation was completed. The most adequate period for CO2 application during the development cycle of the crop was verified at the last quarter of the cultivation cycle. The economical analysis indicated the viability of CO2 application via irrigation water for the lettuce crop under the conditions in which these experiments were conducted.

Colonisation végétale des basins d’infiltration et de rétention : caractérisation de la flore et évolution des caractéristiques physico-chimiques de l’horizon de surface végétalisé / Vegetation of stormwater basins : flora inventory and physico-chemical characterization of vegetated surface

Saulais, Muriel 15 November 2011 (has links)
Urban stormwater basins surfaces can be highly contaminated and can be spontaneously or intentionaly vegetated. The aim of this work is to better characterize the role of the vegetation on heavy metal (Zn, Cd, Cu) mobility. Firstly, vegetation inventory has pointed out the high species diversity in these devices (from ruderal vegetation to wetland plants). Then, a physico-chemical characterization of surface samples vegetated by dominant species has been carried out. We have shown that carbonates and organic matter play a major role in the control of heavy metal mobility. The parameters which are the most spatially and temporally variable are essentially related to organic matter cycle (nitrate, heavy metal fraction bound to organic matter), and to the introduction of stormwater suspended matter (heavy metals, texture). At the maximum of plant growth phase, heavy metal mobility is enhanced and the period of plant death leads to a better heavy metal retention in the basin surface. This thesis invites us to consider plants as agents of surface stormwater basin transformation and to include plants in future research work.
