In recent years, research has shown that the issue of security is an essential indicator for public well-being. Along with the advance of science and technology, the application of monitor, which includes the field of crime investigation and prevention, has become more and more importance. Furthermore, the location of monitor is also involved with personal privacy. As a result, it is necessary to prove which one is better for explanation of sense of happiness.
Based on the Maslow theory of needs, this study explores the relationship between Kaohsiung resident needs and the installation of monitor in terms of quantitative research methods. For the variable of installation demand, it adopts the way of self-questionnaire mining dimensions including security, social, respect, self-actualization and cognitive needs. After validity analysis, the positive cognitive demand had three factors along with seven independent variables, the reliability above 0.7. Dependent variable of the installation of monitor was adapted from Chinese version of Hu Yan (2000). In this study, the version of SPSS 12.0 software was used for statistical analysis along with Likert scale scores. The higher score of scale is, the more sense of happiness does.
After practical analysis, it was found that the people with installed monitor will have higher degree of feeling and safety, not to mention the sense of happiness. They feel that they live in the protection of life and have a sense of accomplishment more than the other events of middle level. In terms of age, work, marriage, positive cognitive and living environment, there is significant difference among them. However, there is no significant difference between monitor alliance and happiness. The study assumed that there are some significant positive correlations among the aspects of safety, community, respect and self-actualization, and it shows that it is necessary to install the street monitor. However, for the aspects of privacy violation as well as stalk information leakage, it was significantly lower degree of positive correlation, indicating the doubtful attitude of public for installation monitor. Therefore, the study infers there might be some impact on personal privacy, so it is necessary to set up stricter management practices on the use of information to alleviate people¡¦s concerns and to prevent people from human rights with law. Within this study, it explains the overall sense of happiness for 72.1%. Maslow's theory is closely linked with the public safety protection measures in life, and it is a practical application. As a result, it proposed the follow-up researchers to delve into the effect of monitor, especially on crime prevention.

The Effect of Aleks on Students' Mathematics Achievement in an Online Learning Environment and the Cognitive Complexity of the Initial and Final AssessmentsNwaogu, Eze 11 May 2012 (has links)
For many courses, mathematics included, there is an associated interactive e-learning system that provides assessment and tutoring. Some of these systems are classified as Intelligent Tutoring Systems. MyMathLab, Mathzone, and Assessment of LEarning in Knowledge Space (ALEKS) are just a few of the interactive e-learning systems in mathematics. In ALEKS, assessment and tutoring are based on the Knowledge Space Theory. Previous studies in a traditional learning environment have shown ALEKS users to perform equally or better in mathematics achievement than the group who did not use ALEKS.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of ALEKS on students’ achievement in mathematics in an online learning environment and to determine the cognitive complexity of mathematical tasks enacted by ALEKS’s initial (pretest) and final (posttest) assessments. The targeted population for this study was undergraduate students in College Mathematics I, in an online course at a private university in the southwestern United States. The study used a quasi-experimental One-Group non-randomized pretest and posttest design.
Five methods of analysis and one model were used in analyzing data: t-test, correctional analysis, simple and multiple regression analysis, Cronbach’s Alpha reliability test and Webb’s depth of knowledge model. A t-test showed a difference between the pretest and posttest reports, meaning ALEKS had a significant effect on students’ mathematics achievement. The correlation analysis showed a significant positive linear relationship between the concept mastery reports and the formative and summative assessments reports meaning there is a direct relationship between the ALEKS concept mastery and the assessments. The regression equation showed a better model for predicting mathematics achievement with ALEKS when the time spent learning in ALEKS and the concept mastery scores are used as part of the model.
According to Webb’s depth of knowledge model, the cognitive complexity of the pretest and posttest question items used by ALEKS were as follows: 50.5% required application of skills and concepts, 37.1% required recall of information, and 12.4% required strategic thinking: None of the questions items required extended thinking or complex reasoning, implying ALEKS is appropriate for skills and concepts building at this level of mathematics.

Parental Problem Drinking and Children’s Adjustment: Are Associations Moderated by Patterns of Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous System Activity?Bi, Shuang 01 January 2015 (has links)
Parental problem drinking (PPD) is associated with various forms of child psychopathology, including hyperactivity, conduct disorder, delinquency, depression and anxiety. However, not all children share the same risk for developing adjustment problems in the context of PPD. In this study, we examined patterns of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system activity account for differential susceptibility to the adverse effects of PPD in middle childhood. We found that reciprocal SNS activation protects against child internalizing symptoms in the context of mother problem drinking. We also found consistent interactions between PNS and SNS in predicting child internalizing problems. Coinhibition is linked to more internalizing symptoms including anxiety and depression. This study provides further support for Autonomic Space Theory and demonstrates the importance of taking both PNS and SNS into account when studying physiological response to stress.

My thesis aims to reconstruct the first husserlian space theory, as developed in several unpublished manuscripts from the early 1890s, which were meant to compose the so-called "Book of Space".The author will present the Book of space in its several aspeccts, by offering a general averview of its topics and identifying those theoretical influences that somehow shaped Husserl's philosophical formation. Moreover, part of this thesis is dedicated to discuss the background of mathematical and scientifc ideas animating the debate about the problem of space, between nineteenth and twentieth century.

Descrição de narrativas em espanhol de Aldana (Colômbia): o comportamento do PONTO DE VISTA segundo a teoria de espaços mentais / Description of narratives in the Spanish of Aldana (Colombia): the behavior of VIEWPOINT according to Mental space theoryOsorno, Juliana Angel 23 September 2016 (has links)
The objective of this dissertation was to describe the behavior of the VIEWPOINT discourse primitive, as proposed by mental spaces theory (FAUCONNIER 1994, 1997), in two narratives in Colombian Andean Spanish from Aldana. The narratives are part of a corpus of ethnographic interviews collected by Valentina Arango Villalón in 2011 in Aldana, on the southern border of Colombia. The narratives emerged in an interview conducted by Arango Villaón and colleagues with Manuel Erira, native to the Pasto Indigenous People of Pastás, in Aldana. In the narratives, Erira explains the origins of some myths and tells the story of his predecessors. I transcribed the narratives using ELAN (developed by the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics) and the concept of intonation units (CHAFE, 1994) as units for the segmentation of the speech flow. I used Hymes´s(1994) model of ethnopoetics for the analysis of narrative structure, which resulted in an organization that responded to the succession and repetition of meaningful elements of action structure. I applied the model of mental spaces following Fauconnier (1994, 1997), Cutrer (1994), Doiz-Bienzobas (1995), Tenuta (2006) and Tenuta & Lepesqueur (2014), giving special attention to the discourse primitive VIEWPOINT. I discussed the possibility of matching the concept of VIEWPOINT as described in mental space theory and the concept of focalization as proposed by Genette (1980) in his study of narrative discourse. This dissertation shows the possibility of VIEPOINT being a hybrid category that describes first the mental space from which other spaces are created/accessed, and secondly the mental space from which the events described in FOCUS space are conceptualized. The dissertation also shows how Doiz- Bienzobas (1995) statement that IMPERFECTIVE spaces show an internal VIEWPOINT associated with an experiencer-self has to do with the second characteristic of VIEWPOINT stated above, namely that of VIEW POINT being the space from which events in FOCUS space are conceptualized. Finally, the dissertation shows how the notions of VIEWPOINT in mental space theory and focalization in Genettes (1980) are not equivalent.
