Effects of Behavior Specialists' Use of Coaching and Performance Feedback Via Telehealth to Train Parents of Children with Challenging BehaviorRuppert, Traci 27 October 2016 (has links)
This study used a concurrent multiple-probe across three mother-child dyads with a non-concurrent addition of a fourth mother-child dyad to assess the extent to which behavior specialists’ use of coaching and performance feedback via telehealth effects the degree to which the parent implements the multi-component behavior support plan (BSP) strategies with fidelity in their home to decrease their child’s challenging behavior. Four behavior specialists and four mothers with their children who exhibit mild to moderate behavior participated in this study. The research question examined if a functional relation exists between implementation of coaching and performance feedback from the behavior specialists via the telehealth model on the parents’ level of implementation fidelity of the strategies in the BSP and the improvement in the level of child’s target challenging behavior and adaptive behavior. Results indicate the efficacy of coaching and performance feedback via telehealth in improving parent treatment fidelity. These results support the use of telehealth to deliver training on multi-component interventions. Additionally, participating behavior specialists and parents indicated that they found the procedures used to be both acceptable and effective. Further implications for practice and directions for future research are discussed.

The health workers’ uptake of continuing professional education in selected Provincial Hospitals in Zimbabwe.Chazovachii, Julian January 2019 (has links)
Master of Public Health - MPH / Health institutions in Zimbabwe often cannot fulfill their health care mandate due to lack of
specialist health workers in different fields. Despite the effort by the Ministry in providing CPE
opportunities, there is poor uptake of CPE by health workers in various provincial hospitals in
Zimbabwe. This has resulted in severe staff shortages, particularly doctors (and more
specifically specialists), as well as nurses and allied health workers.

A framework for career success for specialistsWatson, Heather Jeanne 09 March 2013 (has links)
Specialists contribute to the success of organisations in the form of unique expertise and specific skill sets. Research into career success for specialists is limited and the career of the specialist is not well defined. This study aims to increase understanding of what constitutes career success for specialists, what strategies individuals can employ to achieve such success and what organisations can do to support specialist career success. In line with qualitative research methodological principles, this study followed a exploratory approach to understanding specialist career success. A total of seventeen in-depth interviews were held with senior specialists who have achieved career success, senior internal Human Resource practitioners, and external career development and Human Resource experts. The sample represented a broad range of industries, including Petrochemicals, Telecommunications, Banking, Financial Health Insurance, Academia, Healthcare, Aerospace, FMCG, Mining, Information Technology, Specialist Consulting and Specialist Search and Recruitment.Key findings reflect that career success is an individual construct which is achieved through a variety of strategies. The research allowed for the development of a framework for career success for specialists, which outlines the career path options and career success strategies available to specialists. Furthermore, a model titled ‘the 5 C’s of organisational support for specialists’ summarises what organisations can do to support specialist career success. The outcome of this study provides guidance for specialists in managing their own careers and for organisations who wish to understand specialists in order to attract and retain them as valuable contributors to organisational success. / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / unrestricted

A Comparative Study of Elementary Mathematics Specialists and Mathematics Coaches on Fourth Grade Students' Mathematics AchievementTynes Curry, Tiffany D. 01 January 2017 (has links)
Federal dollars are utilized to develop instructional programs for students not demonstrating mathematical proficiency on state standardized mathematics assessments, but there is a lack of empirical data on the effectiveness of two different approaches that were used in the local context. The purpose of this quantitative, nonexperimental, casual-comparative study was to determine if state achievement test scores of students in fourth grade who received instruction from a Mathematics Specialist (MS) during the 2007-2009 academic years demonstrated a statistically significant difference from the mathematics state achievement test scores of fourth grade students who received instruction from Grades 1-8 credentialed teachers supported by a Math Coach (MC) during the 2012-2014 academic years. The theoretical base includes two components: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards and Federal No Child Left Behind educational policy, which focus on standards-based education, curriculum, assessment, and instruction to meet students' mathematical needs. Data was collected from a census sample of 13,671 students' state scores from school years 2007-2008, 2008-2009 (MS) and 2012-2013, 2013-2014 (MC). The research question was whether there is a difference in MS and MC scores. An independent samples t test was used to compare the means of all the scores. The results show that the MS program produced statistically higher math scores than the MC. This supports the limited literature in favor of MS. Positive social change includes supporting increasing the use of the MS program in the local context to increase mathematics test scores and the potential for redistribution of federal funds to develop MS programs nationwide.

An exploration into complementary and alternative medicine at home and abroad / Exploration into CAMRausch, Kimberly B. January 2006 (has links)
The White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy (WHCCAMP) suggests that CAM may be useful in contributing to the achievement of the nation's health objectives listed in Healthy People 2010 (Chapter 8: CAM and wellness in health promotion, 2002). The purpose of this study was to compare CAM practitioners and practices in Australia, where CAM has been embraced, to those in the United States. Overall there were many similarities and few differences between the two country's results. The themes that resulted from analyzing the transcripts of 5 in-depth interviews with practitioners included; collaboration and integration, community descriptions, general characteristics of practice, general characteristics of practitioner, growth and life purpose, holism, need for health culture change, personalized attention/tailored intervention, and technology use. The implications that resulted may inform users of CAM, students of medicine, and American citizens who desire safe alternative ways to improve their health. / Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology

Medical practitioners and medical specialists : profile and key factors for South AfricaVan Heerden, Andries Johannes 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA (Business Management))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Recent years have been witness to the co-existence of incredible advances in human well-being and healthcare development on the one hand and extreme deprivation and a significant drop in numerous health indicators on the other. Central among this paradox lies the key to accessible, comprehensive and dedicated healthcare - the health workforce and the numerous factors impacting on health professionals and health professional data. Key to health care human resource planning is a comprehensive understanding of the environment and demands that health professionals are faced with. This must be supported by knowledge of the profile of health professionals in a specific country and should lead to detailed health resource planning, based on benchmarks and analytical
interpretation of the factors that both determine and influence the number of health professionals. This research report provides an abbreviated background to the local and international health sectors, profiles the current number and distribution of medical practitioners and selected medical specialists in the country and internationally, identifies the key factors for consideration in projecting the number of medical practitioners and medical specialists required for South Africa and proposes a framework for taking the process
forward. The research showed that, while there are positive aspects to the South African health professional environment, the country faces dire regional disparities and does not compare favourably to many of its international peers in terms of health professional resources. The key aspects that influence health human resources were identified and it became clear that sustainable and comprehensive health resource planning is not a
mere matter of ratios, but is indeed dependent on a number of critical success factors. It is critical that health human resource planning in South Africa requires urgent and comprehensive attention. Failure to address this urgently will result in a health care system continuing to struggle to meet the health care needs of the population. A structured approach is possible, but requires dedication and careful planning.
